AZ won’t make the playoffs, though.

Keller-Hayton-Schmaltz
Crouse-Cooley-Zucker
Maccelli-Bjugstad-Guenther
Kerfoot-McBain-Boyd
O’Brien

Moser-Dumba
Valimaki-Durzi
Dermott-Brown
Stecher

Vejmelka
Ingram

^ so still a lottery pick. :)
I won’t argue your track of your team, but Guenther and Cooley having decent years could go a long way. The blue line, well yaknow.

If you watched Gauthier last year at BC, you know that he was probably the only reason BC wasn't the worst team in the Hockey East last year. That team was straight garbage. Cooley obviously had a much more impressive season, but I have no doubt Gauthier is going to feast this year with the depth that BC is bringing in. He is in line for a huge season whether he plays with any of Smith/Leonard/Perrault or not. If the freshman draw the opposing teams top defensive line, he is going to absolutely feast on whatever line he is matched up with. Especially if he still has Gasseau on his wing, those are two big, physical guys that showed a lot of chemistry last year and can really wear down an opponent if they want to.

Is there anything known on the likelihood of Gauthier signing and playing late season games with the Flyers once the college season is over?
I think he said that was part of the plan after he was asked why he miss Flyers Dev Camp

10 points in 8 games with 8 goals. Good start to the year but want to him get closer to 1.5 points per game this year.

Expect a lot from a 5th overall pick!

He's not working with a whole lot in terms of even strength line mates tbh. And it's completely natural that they'd try to run every play thru him as the finisher, which reduces his assists and point totals. I agree, in this particular case the goal total is what really matters

Who is he playing with? He was guy I had eye on at draft. Thinking on trading down with Habs pick

I haven't really liked Gauthier that much from watching him this season. I think he's really toolsy. He's big, strong, fast, and has a cannon of a shot. It's no wonder why he pops on the screen. But I do not think he's very dynamic offensively and I don't like some of his decision-making approach in the offensive zone. I guess he just feels kind of run-of-the-mill in that regard.

Maybe you should lower your expectations...

Flyers top 5 pick history

Cutter Gauthier
Nolan Patrick
JVR
Joni Pitkanen
Mike Ricci
Ron Sutter
Mel Bridgeman
Serge Bernier

It's not garbage, but it's far from stellar.

I don't know how a top five pick being of the flyers vs recent 5OAs.
Below are forward 5OA picks since 2000 these players should be his barometer, with the goal of becoming a topline/strong top 6 forward
I would argue that there have been 6 misses of the 14 players, based on the expectation of a 5OA, with 3 players being to early to call. and Turcotte is not trending in the right direction

so you are looking at a 50% hit rate, I would say Gauthier is trending in the right direction, but its still early.

Kent Johnson, early
Alex Turcotte, early
Barrett Hayton, early
Elias Petterson, hit
Michael Del Colle, miss
Elias Lindholm, hit
Ryan Strome, fringe
Nino Niederreiter, miss
Braydon Schenn, hit
Phil Kessel, hit
Blake Wheeler, hit
Thomas Vanek, hit
Stanislav Chistov, miss
Raffi Torres, miss

I think he's going to be good...I'm just not too impressed with the Flyers ability to develop .

So I can kind of understand where you're coming from a bit but I look at it from a different viewpoint. I just don't think he's a center at the next level and that's totally fine. He has all the makings of a really good winger, a cross between a Chris Kreider and Matt Boldy in my mind is what I see him becoming. I think him playing center right now is good for him to develop the defensive side of his game and really become a complete player. I do think he has a higher ceiling offensively as a winger, that will allow him to showcase his tools more, use his shot and power more. I don't see the big decision making issues you're seeing in the offensive zone though. I also give him a break a bit because he's been doing a lot of the heavy lifting creating offense on his line

I'm looking forward to seeing him at the WJC. They had him at wing for the WJC camp, I'd like to see him there for the tourney. Also, he'll have some more skilled linemates than Gasseau and Malone, who are solid players, they just don't have the same ceiling some of the guys on the WJC team will

Nice zone entry and little dish

lucky bounce, but doesn't hurt to be in the right spot

I do wonder how his shot will translate to the next level. A lot of his goals come from a ways out.
I’m sure there will be an adjustment and learning curve where he’ll need to learn how to get in certain places. At the bare minimum an elite shot is positive and will create rebound and deflection chances

Surprised he didn’t turn pro. I thought based on his play in the WCs he might be a dark horse Calder candidate.

The one thing I wish Gauthier did more was get to the front of the net. A lot of his goals come from far out. There’s no doubt he has an elite shot, but I’d like to see him embrace the role of a power forward a bit more and get in towards the net. He’s been excellent on the PP this year, but he hasn’t produced 5v5 quite as much as I thought he would. He’s still been great, but there’s definitely more that I’d like to see.

I’ve watched almost every BC game this season and there’s no doubt that Gauthier has elite tools. His size, skating, and shot will all be plus-plus even at the NHL level and he’s solid defensively too. He’ll be a good top-6 NHL scorer without a doubt, but I’m often left wondering if that’s all he’ll be. I’ll be very curious if he can become a true #1C or if he’s more like a good second line winger. His size and skating is just too much for NCAA defenders and his shot is way too good for NCAA goaltenders.

Most Flyers fans don't view him as a future Center. He just doesn't play like one at all. That won't stop the Flyers organization from trying to shoe-horn him into that role to his detriment.

Agree on the netfront sentiment, otherwise you're looking at guy that profiles eerily similar to Anthony Mantha.
