The Oilers need to fix their D, and team D, to get the puck moving the right way more.

If they can even be average, then he will get a chance to shine.

Meh, I think the whole puck-moving concept is kinda overrated when it comes to direct impact on offensive production. Klefbom, Nurse, and Fayne all seem to have decent outlet passes from my viewings.

Hall and Eberle put up 75-80 points in prior seasons playing with an even more garbage d-core in Edmonton than last year's, IMO.

Well I'm not so sure about that. A young inexperienced d-core can get hemmed in for longer periods of time, Klefbom is the only player I feel really good about right now on defense. Nurse is going to probably need time to refine his game, Shultz shouldn't be a dman, Nikitin shouldn't be in the NHL, Fayne is steady but not a number 1 or 2, Ference is just garbage....

However I'm confident we will add a couple pieces, hopefully one will be an impact player. Defense is going to be important if we want to allow our offensive stars to flourish. I Honestly think we haven't gotten the best out of our high picks because they have been left out to hang by the worst defense in the League year after year.

No knock on Mcdavid, he's the clear #1, but there is a big jump from OHL dmen and NHL dmen...
If You Watched him play you would be able to see that there isn't a lot a D could do other then shot block, take a penalty or try and lift the stick. Then if you do all that he passes to someone who is open.

Nurse is the best defensive defensemen in the ohl right now and all over McDavid. He isn't doing anything wrong and playing out of his mind and McDavid is still finding ways to get points

Exactly. Id be happy with maybe a 20 goals, 25 assist rookie season. We need to remember he is a young kid playing against men now. Also hes going to a terrible team, a team that has had trouble getting it together for years now, a team that has gotten new management and quite possibly yet another new coach. The team is full of younger offensive players that their leading scorer only had 63 points last year. Eberle, Hall, RNH, Yakupov are all gonna want points and all want huge years and all going to get PP time. It's not like McDavid is going to be the only young offensive player on a team and get all the prime mins. Also I still really hope Chiarelli makes one or 2 big trades to acquire some older vets to mentor him better.

I know Edmonton is getting a HUGE talent but I think people need to stop with the overhyping. I can't help but remember how many times everyone overhyped the team and players after everytime they drafted a young stud over the past 5 years or so. I am going into the season with no expectations what so ever because I really dont know what will happen. The pressure on this kid already is absolutely insane and you never know what will happen. I hope he takes the league by storm, but you never know

I don't understand how some of you can be projecting him to score such low totals.

McDavid is the most talented prospect since Crosby. If he scored something like 45 points in his rookie season, that would probably be the worst performance by a 1st overall forward since Patrik Stefan. That's not going to happen.

If he can remain injury-free, McDavid is going to score a lot more than 45 points.

Crosby went to a terrible team that ended up drafting Jordan Staal and he still put up 100 points. McDavid can put up a lot of points and the Oilers can still be bad. The two are not exclusively tied together.

McDavid will be dynamic from day one, he will be getting top 6 minutes and will end up as the #2 scorer on the team behind Hall.

Top 50 easily, top 30 probably, possibly top 20

His skating is ridiculous, I remember be incredbly impressed by Mackinnon's skating and McDavid is better....can't wait to see him in the league

For anybody watching the OHL playoffs this year it is obvious that McDavid is the best prospect since Mario. He is so head and shoulders above anyone else on the ice it's unfair.

Definetly putting distance between the rest of the top 10. :handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap:

The way he's finishing his OHL career is better than Crosby. He is on another level than all over players. Including teammates and opponents drafted in the top 15, or projected top 5. There's is being too good for the OHL, and then there's mcdavid. Scary to think that if hr didn't run into nurse, he could be playing at a 4 ppg pace this series.

You're only expecting 45 points? Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

No mention of Draisaitl either?????????? Three great lines that all can score big points and the checking line.

Tonight after one period he's set up his linemates numerous times in the slot but they couldn't bury. Looking very good as always.

Pouliot-RNH-Ebs
Hall-McDavid-Yak
FA-Lander-FA
Wagon

Roy is only there because of his effect on yak imo and yak shouldn't be on the 3rd line and Roy isnt going beat out McDavid for 2nd line so id make the lander line a 2nd comp shutdown line that can add depth scoring. im sure ill get crapped on for this but i think acquiring Paajarvi-Svensson, Sobotka or Loui Eriksson to fill those FA positions would be a stellar line.

McDavid has been kept in check Tonight so far Tonight. Still a period to change that, though.

Unfortunately yes. Hes offered up numerous chances but teammates cant bury tonight. Nurse shut him down on 2 rushes too

Connor McDavid leads the OHL by a 12 point margin through 14 games. He could have 12 points in 14 games and a normal skilled player might consider that a pretty decent playoff.

No ill be happy with 45 points... I really dont know what im expecting with him next season on this team

If he has a worse ppg than any other forward 1st overall pick in the last 10-15 years then that would be a complete disappointment. He should easily be able to get more than all the other 1st picks the last 9 seasons especially with all the talent around him. 45 would be awful.

If he was playing with better teammates, he could have about 20 more points haha

No kidding. I mean even I'd he was playing with a guy like Baptiste.

It would definitely be interesting to see if he was playing with actual top line CHL players.
