If McDavid is as good as Crosby does that mean whoever he's lined up with with ,hall, yakupov, or eberle are in for monster years point wise? Will he help Shultz put up Letang like numbers, lol. Interesting time to be an oil fan.

Here's the really scary thing for those who aren't Oiler fans:

-Hall has been top 10 in ppg league wide in 2 of the last 3 seasons

-Eberle scored 76 points in his last full season before Eakins coached. When Eakisn was fired this year Eberle was one of the top point producers in the entire league (most of 2015). Back to his old self.

- RNH's ppg shot up dramatically after Eakins was fired. Near top of the league in 2015 iirc

-Yakupov's rookie season put him right in the middle ppg wise for how 1st overall picks usually performed, he went downhill after his first season because of Eakins but showed his potential again once Nelson stepped in.

Now add McDavid into this... Crosby never had this much talent to play with. No Pascal Dupuis.

If Chiarelli can sign/trade for 2 dmen this will be a scary team. Until our D is improved we will continue to suck.

I just had a comparative look at Eberle and RNH's numbers under Eakins and Nelson......wow, was Eakins really that bad?

McDavid is on pace for the best CHL playoff performance in history

Record was set in 2000 in the Q. 57 points in 21 games (2.71 ppg)

McDavid has 2.76 ppg and on pace for 58 points in 21 games

Ofcourse this is on pace, and doesnt take into account era stats

Oilers fans dont like to talk about that dark era. Eberles stats post eakins are top 5 in the NHL (in 2015). With Eakins he looked like a shell of him former self. But under Nelson he looked like a star

Hall got only a limited number of games with Nelson. However, if he follows RNH, Eberle and even Yaks uptic, he could be looking at another 75-80 point season (without McDavid)

I am a fan of putting Mcdavid with Yak (who looked hot in 2015). But if hes with Hall, thats a better linemate then Crosby ever had

Tough to keep expectations down with those two

Yes. He really was. He cared about shots over anything. Not quality not good, just shoot.

His defensive system was awful and other teams had constant super high quality scoring chances.

Roy could of been had in the off season but Eakins said nope.

Man it was scary how bad he was.

- line combinations made no sense
- d pairings made no sense
- crap players got lots of minutes
- when the team would lose he wouldn't even talk to the players at times. Often he would just give them time off
- practices were a joke (skate around and shoot puck on net). Multiple Ex oilers confirmed this.
- no emotion on the bench and barely talked to the players
-you could tell no one liked him (especially Hall)
- we were having our worst season yet (if you can believe it) this year and when he was fired in early 2015 a rookie coach stepped in and made us a near .500 team
- every player over time got worse with Eakins (some it was instant while others took a season)
- where players were positioned on the ice made no sense
- when to call time outs or pull the goalie etc didn't make sense
- made derpy faces and gestures on the bench (there's memes of them)
- was never able to use the line change advantage properly
- made Klefbom, Yakupov and especially Lander look like they were never going to be NHL players despite having great success in OKC. Yakupov didn't play in OKC but his rookie year right before Eakins got there was great.

Everyone rags on the Oilers saying things like "every player they draft is a bust", "McDavid will bust", "Poor McDavid". Fact is Lowe is no longer president of hockey operations, MacT was fired and Chiarelli took both their jobs. We now have a legitimate GM who is eyeing up Mclellan as coach and rumoured to be waiting for Babcock, arguably the best coach in the NHL. We have legitimate talent, a legitimate GM, we will be getting a legit coach and will just need to shore up the defense. Maybe add a goalie too. We won't be the butt of all the jokes for long.

Speaking of things Eakins has said. I remember when we first hired him he said he would work our players so hard and practices would be so intense that no team would ever be able out skate us or have as much endurance as us

Leafs fans said we would love him :( why Toronto fans why??

As an Oiler fan that would be amazing but I'm predicting 24 goals 47 assists 71 points

Oh believe me, I'm well aware of much of what you say. As someone who is a new casual Oiler fan (because of McDavid), I have defended Hall, RNH, and Eberle from many moronic comments. I was just unaware of what a drastic deterrence Eakins was on both RNH and Eberle. I though it was only Hall and Yakupov who played much better under Nelson.

I watched several Oilers games for the past two years (I live in Alberta), and though I thought Eakins was a terrible systems and special teams coach, I didn't realize #14 and #93 had regressed as much as they had.

I think he'll have a great year cause he's playing with a lot more talent then what Crosby had his first year in Pittsburgh (no Malkin yet)
Hall, Eberle, Yak is a great mix of wingers

no predictions on point totals but he'll be in the running for the Calder (the only trophy an Oiler player has never won)

Yep and it's not just them, Eakins ruined every player. Hall is the only who hasn't gotten much of a chance to play under Nelson.

I dont think thats right. Mario had 52 pts in 14 games in his draft year. It is impossible for mcdavid to beat that. Though if you adjusted era scoring it would be much closer. But thats just ppg wise not actual scoring. I dont see connor getting 16 points in the next game. But he probably might break the 57 pt record if all goes well for the otters

This kid is already oe of the most talented players in the world. He will be top 20 in scoring and could top a ppg.

Yeah I'm predicting a year with like 15-20 goals, and 40 or so assists. His vision is nuts.

That's selling him way short.

Taylor Hall is a PPG on his own when he's fully healthy. I think both should be in the race for the scoring title next season, provided they get a competent RWer on that line.

That's a pretty subpar year if you ask me. This kid is hyped as better than Crosby. He also will be playing with much more talented players then Crosby had in his rookie year. 75 points and under will be a subpar season to me.

Just trying to be conservative. I could see anywhere from 60-80 points depending on how well the Oil mesh, injuries that could occur, etc.

Im just as excited as anyone is to watch him, but there were only 7 PPG players last year (Voracek had 80 points in 81 games so basically 8 PPG players).

McDavid getting 1.00 PPG this year would be insane, and I really think the odds are stacked against him considering the shift in scoring over the past few years.

Era adjusted he is above mario

Era adjusted he's neck and neck with Mario, but ahead of Tavares or Crosby.

Crosby had the best 16 year old season of all-time.
Lemieux and Crosby were neck-and-neck for the best 17 year old season of all-time

McDavid's draft year is only behind Crosby and Lemieux for best of all-time. As wonderous as Lindros was, McDavid had an offensively superior draft year. Tavares fell off (comparatively) in his draft year, but his draft-1 year was all-time great.

In terms of McDavid expectations, I certainly seeing him hitting 100 points even in the comedically low scoring era we're in. Anything short of multiple Art Rosses is falling short of the hype.
