C Connor McDavid - Erie Otters, OHL (2015 Draft) VI

Era adjusted he's neck and neck with Mario, but ahead of Tavares or Crosby.

Crosby had the best 16 year old season of all-time.
Lemieux and Crosby were neck-and-neck for the best 17 year old season of all-time

McDavid's draft year is only behind Crosby and Lemieux for best of all-time. As wonderous as Lindros was, McDavid had an offensively superior draft year. Tavares fell off (comparatively) in his draft year, but his draft-1 year was all-time great.

In terms of McDavid expectations, I certainly seeing him hitting 100 points even in the comedically low scoring era we're in. Anything short of multiple Art Rosses is falling short of the hype.

Crosby has 2 and some people still consider that disappointing considering the hype. As unfortunate as it is, this kid is going to have to win 3+ to really meet the hype he has received.

The Q was lower scoring than the O this year so statistically he is behind Crosby in the regular season anyway. He has been unbelievable in the playoffs.

I said this another thread:

I don't know if he is better than Crosby at this stage. He has 6 months and one more year of CHL hockey under his belt. You can say that 6 months isn't a big deal but that can turned around to show that at age 18 Crosby had a Top 6 Art Ross finish and a dominant WC scoring title.

I will say with how the game is played right now and him being on the Oilers 22 goals 45 assists 67 points but if he scored 100 I wouldn't be surprised

For anybody watching the OHL playoffs this year it is obvious that McDavid is the best prospect since Mario. He is so head and shoulders above anyone else on the ice it's unfair.

Definetly putting distance between the rest of the top 10. :handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap:

I don't see how that would negatively impact his production. If anything, he'd be playing with the kind of wingers that Crosby never had coming into the league on the Penguins.

Agreed. Whether someone thinks the Oilers are a good team for him or whether or not the team will be good next year, it's pretty inarguable that he's in a great place to aid his statistical production, which, let's face it, is 90% of what goes into the Calder. Playing off a line of RNH-Eberle with Hall on his side == points.

The Oilers need to fix their D, and team D, to get the puck moving the right way more.

If they can even be average, then he will get a chance to shine.

XXXX-RNH-Eberle
Hall-McDavid-Lander
Pouliot?-Roy-Yakupov

Deadly. Especially for points, as you mention.

Don't see a PPG happening unless he's on the #1 powerplay in Edmonton. Will he even be? Edmonton has RNH/Eberle/Hall already up front for that unit. Maybe they'll try to load up or play one of those guys on the point, though.

Why split Pouliot up from Nuge and Ebs? They were fantastic together.

Yakupov on the 3rd line will only lead to people calling for his head and continuing to call him a bust. Play him with McDavid and if he still can't produce offensively then deal him or move him down the lineup.

That's what slipped my mind! I forgot they had insane chemistry at the end. As for the Yakupov thing, I don't think he'd fit at all with Hall and McD. Not enough puck to go around. He showed good chemistry with Roy and those two can beast and feast on 3rd pairing D-men and poor forward competition.

I'd say that set up gives you far more options than just stacking up on two lines. :dunno:

Yak's just gotta get open while those guys play tag with the puck.

If McDavid is as good as Crosby does that mean whoever he's lined up with with ,hall, yakupov, or eberle are in for monster years point wise? Will he help Shultz put up Letang like numbers, lol. Interesting time to be an oil fan.
I think this is very important. Because this is what makes Crosby the best in the game. He can make everyone around him so much better.
I think that's why McDavid is comparable to Crosby above all else. He can make the players around him so much better. I feel several players on that Oiler's team could increase their point totals next season just from McDavid being on the team.

Well if he is on the 3rd line he will be a disappointment just prepare for it. He needs to finally make the jump offensively and be what he was drafted to be. He's not a 3rd line winger, doesn't play like one nor does he have the defensive abilities to be one. It's time to put up or shut.

I think he's got far more to his game than that. He was really revolutionized under Nelson. He wouldn't be able to maximize his puck control and elite speed with two guys who are better than him at that. Roy-Yak combo was awesome and needs to stay together IMO.

Oh you shut down RNH-Ebs? cool
McD+Hall? nice
Yak+Roy.

It's just high octane attack every shift.

Yeah I hear you. We got a lot of options to play with. It's nice to go with pairs, having three lines bring the attack. But man, I want to see Yak just go immortal status playing with McMagic.

Yak's my favourite Oiler until McDavid signs his contract, and after seeing all the **** he's had to take from fans, and the media, I really want to see him take it to the next level.

Agreed. I really enjoyed watching the Oilers post eakins. The interchanging and beautiful movement by the forwards was a treat to watch. If Edmonton goes another route from Nelson I'd love to see him in Buffalo. He'd work magic with our young forwards.

Anyway, happy for Edmonton that they won the lottery. Good for them. And stay out west.

It's time the Yak started putting up offensive numbers in all honesty. Playing 3rd line minutes isn't going to accomplish that. The kid deserves the opportunity to show what he can do. How many third line wingers in the NHL put up 50 points? None. I personally won't be happy with a 35-40 point season from him.

Yeah I'm predicting a year with like 15-20 goals, and 40 or so assists. His vision is nuts.

I think anything less than 20 goals will be disappointing. Goodreau managed 24 goals and 40 assists this year as a rookie and he pretty much is a pass first guy. I think McDavid can do even better than that.

I'm just trying not to get carried away with lofty expectations.

He could finish anywhere from 65-80 points imo.

Nelson's a great coach, I'd love to keep him on in an associate role, but we're big game hunting for Babcock, and McLellan. He's able to get guys to overachieve consistently, and is great with young players. You could do much worse than Nelly.

Thanks for the kind words. I was hoping we'd win, but if we didn't I wanted to see you guys win it. With all the crap you guys took this season, I'm glad you'll at least get Eichel (Which is a pretty sweet consolation.). I'll be cheering for you guys in the East for sure. :handclap:

Yeah, I agree with that too. I lean towards giving Yak the opportunity with McDavid, and if it doesn't work, get him back with Roy.

you are all right...he will be given a FREE path to the net , free to do what he wants , with all the time in the world in NHL :shakehead:shakehead

give the kid a break....you would probably think a rookie 50 point season is a bust :help:
