I'd be willing to bet he's almost a top 20 player right now. I expect him to crack the top 10 in points in his rookie season.

Assuming Erie beats out the Soo, would Oshawa or North Bay be tougher to beat?

Oshawa had only 2 less points than SSM in the regular season, but North Bay's been on a strong defensive run in these playoffs. I'd say it'd be a similar challenge, but I'm unfamiliar with the teams. If either of those teams don't have a defenceman that can skate with McDavid like Nurse is in this series, it could get ugly extremely quickly. Even though McDavid is blowing the doors off, it's mostly on the PP. Nurse is actually fast enough to prevent the continuous breakaways that McDavid would have.

McDavid is unreal. Wow. I really want to be hesitant in my praise of him, but he might be a better prospect than Crosby was. He creates a chance nearly every shift he's on the ice. He's on an exponentially increasing development curve right now. The hands, vision, speed are all absolutely top-notch.

He was extremely disruptive on the PK too. Unreal acceleration and body position which help his defense a ton.

His hockey IQ is off the charts. He's actually the most dangerous guy on the ice when the OTHER team has a PP. How is that ****ing possible? Truly amazing talent.

Big deal. His teammate had 4 goals. Plus McDavid had 3 of the points on the PP. And he was only even for +\-. Hardly anything to get excited about since PP points mean less in most Ovi threads.

And yes...I am kidding.

Draft year playoff stats, updated

McDavid 13GP, 18G, 18A, 36 PTS (2.77 ppg)*playoffs still ongoing
Crosby 13GP, 14G, 16A, 31 PTS (2.38 ppg)
Tavares 14GP, 10G, 11A, 21 PTS (1.5 ppg)
P. Kane 16GP, 10G, 21A, 31 PTS (1.93 ppg)
Stamkos 9GP, 11G, 0A, 11 PTS (1.22 ppg)

Hall: 19 games- 17 goals and 35 points (1.84)

They're going to be a good duo.

People are gonna say I'm a homer, but if Nurse wasn't on Soo, McDavid could seriously have 20-25 points this series.

As an Oilers fan this series has been so much fun to watch.

I am an old man and I agree. He is a level up from any draft eligible prospect I have seen in my life.

I honestly can't believe how talented and smart he is. I still can't believe what I've seen these playoffs. Unbelievable. As another poster said, he could've had 7 points tonight, easy, with a bit of luck. Only Nurse can come close to containing him. I'm so excited I feel like I wont be able to sleep. He's truly amazed me that much. Just wow.

Best prospect I have ever seen.

I never saw Lemeiux or Lindros in their junior days so I'd agree and I'm not saying that as a biased Oilers fan.

I honestly think he could step into the NHL right now and be a top 20 player.
He just continues to amaze me more every game. He's not just an offensive force either, his game is pretty complete already.

I would say soo would be eries toughest match. Assuming erie ends up winning the series against soo i think they will beat whoever they play in the finals (oshawa/north bay).

I was disappointed because i didnt think mcdavid would make it to the mem cup but that he would make it far enough to not be able to attend the world championships for Canada. Now looks like the Memorial cup is an actual possibility up 3-1 on the powerhouse Soo. The hype train will be ridiculous

Game 5 is going to be so huge. The best team in the CHL at home and back into a corner. McDavid is going to need to step up his game one more notch to finish them off. Don't let the Hounds get back into the series.

Would've been nice to see him at the World's, but then again, Canada is loaded with good centers, so we should be good in that area. But I know what you mean.

Might've been the first time we would've seen Crosby and McDavid play together on a line or PP. Can you imagine? Yikes!

Looks like Erie is headed for the Mem Cup unless the Soo can pull of a miracle.

Better than Mario Lemieux?

McDavid's playoff scoring pace is about equal or slightly better than Lemieux's in his draft year after you adjust for league wide scoring rates.

It's a small sample size but so far he's right up there.

I don't think McDavid will be quite as good as Mario, because Mario didn't work very hard relative to his peers early in his carer and just got by on raw talent. He had an extra reserve of potential he tapped into after that 1987 Canada Cup that McDavid might not have.

But it looks like McDavid's development is on a sharper upward trajectory than Crosby at the same age. Crosby was better in his 16-yo season, but this year McDavid seems to have caught up and be surpassing him (that said he's 7 months older, which is significant too, but that shouldn't take away from the insane trajectory he's on).

I wonder if he didnt break his hand if hed been seen as better than Crosby undoubtedly. He had to come back and started a bit slow. But the way he finished the year + playoffs is nothing short of generational. The playoff run is better than how Crosby left, and hes doing it against the best team in the OHL in the reg season (maybe all CHL)
