Him and Eichel I'd say certainly are top 50 players already. It's awesome that not one, but two incredibly skilled hockey players step foot onto NHL ice next year. My eyes will be glued to as many Sabres and Oilers games I can catch.

Easily top 50, might even be top 10 right now. Shame we probably won't get to see him at the WC.

He's probably already the most all around skilled player in the world - his speed and acceleration are about as good as anyone in the NHL, and no one in the NHL can handle the puck like he does at that speed. The only thing he lacks is experience - playing against men, and at the NHL's pace.

So this is an interesting question. I counted, and there are 33 forwards on that list. For McDavid to be on the list, he would realistically have to be somewhere in the top 33 forwards this year, as an estimation.

The 30-35th overall forward scorers in points per game this year were Joe Thornton, Corey Perry, Logan Couture, Jonathan Toews, and Anze Kopitar (WOW) with the best Oiler, Jordan Eberle, at #43 (of course Hall was hurt, and Oilers didn't score very much because of terrible-ness yadda yadda). Will he be as good or better than those guys? Really hard to say.

If McDavid's on the list, will he also be the best player on the Oilers come draft day? I'd venture he could be.

To RyanOhReally: if McDavid is truly top 20 next year, is he going to perform better than someone like #12-14th overall P/G scorers Vladimir Tarasenko, Tyler Johnson, and Daniel Sedin did?? Seems like a huge stretch.

To Semantics: if he is top 10, will he perform better than Datsyuk, Malkin, or Ovechkin did?? (P/G scorers #6-8)

I've been saying this for over a year now, but the NHL should schedule 1 game on opening night in October. Edmonton v Buffalo. A coin flip at the draft to decide who gets to be the home team.

And in answer to the OP, yes, McDavid would be ranked in the Top 50.

I sense an unbeliever in this thread.

I ask this question because I'm hearing all the hype about "Better than Crosby at this stage" etc etc. I have the 2005-2006 THN yearbook were they rank there top 50 players for the incoming year, and Sidney Crosby is ranked #26 at 18 years old before he even played an NHL game. Doesn't seem that far off being that he scored 102 points, was 6th overall in league scoring, and was scoring leader (youngest ever) at the IIHF World Championships all at 18. Were do you guys see Connor McDavid being ranked if ranked at all for the 2015-2016 season. I mean he is blowing away the OHL playoffs. Just a curious question?

If Crosby was #26, then probably.

I don't know if he is better at this stage. He has 6 months and one more year of CHL hockey under his belt. You can say that 6 months isn't a big deal but that can turned around to show that at age 18 Crosby had a Top 6 Art Ross finish and a dominant WC scoring title.

I hate questions like this for players that haven't stepped foot in the NHL. He will be playing against grown men that are way bigger, way faster and way stronger than he is used to next season and not kids anymore. He definitely has the potential to have a strong season but we have to keep in mind that he will be playing on a team that has been a huge disappointment during their rebuild. I honestly don't know what to expect with McDavid next year. I think if Chiarelli makes some trades this offseason and changes the dressing room up, then I see McDavid having a huge season. But if Oilers keep the team as is and not make any moves, I think he will have a below average season.

So as for the original question, absolutely he isn't top 50 RIGHT NOW. Top prospect yes, but definitely not a top 50 NHL player. Ask again mid season and I may have a different answer

I strongly feel Chiarelli will make 1 or 2 huge moves to shake up this team for McDavid. They know they have a generational talent and need to surround him with players that have won and more veterans. McDavid has already gotten Lowe and MacT axed and has brought in better management. If the Oilers have done that already in preparation of McDavid, they will definitely trade some players for him

If Gaudreau can do it, why can't McDavid? I do know he's older and all, but come on, McDavids the next big thing since SC87

I am predicting 30 goals 50 assists for McDavid
Eichel 25 goals 45 assists

Hopefully everyone in the NHL scores more and goals per game goes up almost a goal per game.

I hope he does well but I just cant help but remember year after year the team would be good...

everyone thought after Hall was drafted, he would light up the league and bring the team to playoffs with Eberle....

That obviously didn't happen but then they drafted RNH and forsurely they would turn into a deadly trio and win....

That didn't happen but then they drafted this electrifying Russian Yakupov, they would definitely create a foursome for years that would dominate....

and they finally found their PP QB stud Schultz

but they still didn't turn good...

and then Nurse was drafted but we all knew he would need development time. But then the 2nd line center answer Draisaitl was drafted and fans figured he would have imidiate impact and would be the final piece...

but he was sent to junior and again the team got worse

Like I said, I hope McDavid will turn the team around finally but this disappointment has been going on too long that it has ruined my excitement to think he will have a huge year. I hope I am wrong

Could be ranked in the top 30 similar to Crosby. In retrospect Crosby was underranked, he was a top 10 player the minute he stepped onto NHL ice. McDavid's one of those guys that you know is already a star, no development needed to attain that level. Excited to see how his first season unfolds.

"In terms of pure instincts and hockey sense, even Crosby didn't match up to McDavid." Kyle Woodlief.
