Theirs absolutely no way the Canucks should sign him to a long term contract. That would be the final nail in the coffin.

Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I'm actually willing to gamble on Demko. Extend him for 3-4 years at $6M AAV. He probably won't take it though. Probably play things out and see if he can get that Vezina goalie calibre money.

He has to take a back up role unfortunately with his injury history.

You can't be serious with Demko at 2x2. He will never take less than what he is making now despite his injuries. Dude is 29 and he is looking for his last payday. Offering him 2 mil is like a spit in the face. I'd rather we move him at the deadline if he is healthy and get something for him.

Lankinen has done a great job this season and I hope he's re-signed.
That said, the Canucks are not getting past the top teams in the West without Demko back playing true to form. I would rather gamble on his health over the next couple seasons than take a mediocre package of picks.
Hopefully this injury is just a blip as he was just starting to heat up.

No GM is giving him what he wants
No GM is going to give him a 7 year contract.
Someone will offer him way more than $2 million per year if he's willing to take a two year contract though.
A "back up role" should not be defined by salary but by performance. Peak Demko is simply better than Peak Lankinen.

What is it with fans of this team wanting to keep pay insane salaries for players who are injured or players who are showing crazy red flags?
Then let another GM be on the hook for 5-6-7M when he is injured again.
You're talking about two different things. Demko's track record is what it is both performance and injury wise. You obviously don't think he can stay healthy or even perform like a top 10 goalie when healthy so of course for you the proper course is to trade him. There's really not much discussions to be had. If management thinks the way you do, they absolutely should not be thinking of extending Demko.
