Originally they didn't give him an assist on the first goal even though it was clearly him that passed it to Strome. It's not like it bounced off his skate and was debatable. He had clear possession of the puck and made a perfectly uninterrupted pass to Strome. I really don't know why it took so long for them to give him credit for it.

yep. The SSM annoucer was correct. Dermott passed it to McDavid, who sent it to Strome. I don't know how they messed up the scoring intially, but they ended up getting it right.

Ever? No.

Mario Lemieux: 14GP - 29G - 23A - 52P

In recent memory? Probably, if he can keep it up. If he has a couple quiet games he'll probably settle in around where Crosby's playoffs were, if he continues his absurd pace he'll pass what Crosby did.

LOL?

30p in 11 games in 2014-15 is definitely more impressive than 52p in 14 games in 1983-84.

QMJHL teams averaged 10.02 GF/game that year, vs 7.01 in the OHL this year.

McDavid's numbers this year scale to 14GP - 53P in 83-84. Better than Lemieux (so far).

I have to admit, McDavid's upward trajectory is impressive. In my opinion, he came into this year just below Tavares level, and he has just risen rapidly throughout the year, moving up to where I am finally ready to say he is a Lindros/Crosby level prospect.

McDavid was a a certified generational talent coming into the draft year by all observers. He put up numbers as a 16 year old that Hall and Stamkos did in their draft year.

To me his ability and potenial is beyond both Stamkos and Hall. I think he has more raw skills than Stamkos although Stamkos certianly has the rocket. Hall has nowhere near the instincts for the game that McDavid does.

Other thing about McDavid is that he's been immediately set up for individual success to a level that Crosby never has been, even now. He has a young, high-skill long-term winger in Hall. Should be really interesting to see how they combine. The speed and skill between those two could turn into a very special combination.

Agree, although they are not as good as other 1st overall picks, he has some very good young players to play with and develop with. A lot of combonitations available for his disposal. Peter chicarelli will probably start adding Veteran players to mentor the younger kids.

Oilers should try to land Bickel. He seems like the perfect pylon for McDavid to deflect pucks off of and into the net. He can double as a body guard of sorts, as well.

kids unstoppable. As his journey goes on, the opponent is getting better, he adapts with that and gets better himself. It's unfair. It's like "unreal."

I don't want to derail this thread too far with a bunch of number crunching, but McDavid would pro-rate to the exact same PPG pace as Lemieux when accounting for games played and strength of competition. Even giving McDavid all the favorable assumptions, the line is razor thin between them, but I still give the edge to Lemieux for actually playing the games.

We can re-visit this discussion when McDavid hits 14 GP. If McDavid puts together a few more incredible games, he definitely has a shot at ending up with one of the most impressive playoffs for a first year draft eligible player ever.

I'm so happy for Oilers fans. They're gonna have so much fun winning with this guy at the helm.

For all the false hope they've been handed over the last few years, they truly have reason to be excited for the future of the team now.

Oh my god haha. I was watching mcdavid following up the play and thinking this guy is going to cut the pass off or do something sick

Next thing you know he smartly he s in the right position, cuts the pass off, kicks it up to his stick and tricks the goalie for a goal behind the goal line

Unreal hockey IQ, unmatched

With that 18th goal in 12 playoff games he now has 32 points, one more than Crosby's draft year playoff year in one less game. :handclap:

Just about got the hattrick right there.

If this is containing McDavid in the playoffs, then maybe the Greyhounds should find a way to stop him.

The only player capable is Nurse and they have last change. Everytime McDavid is on the ice against Nurse he's contained. Whenever he's not, he capitalizes.

Just carrying Erie right now.
