3 goals
-3

Bad defensive day for him?

Not really. SSM dominated the entire game, and the two goals I recall McDavid being out for were his D getting walked and the 3rd was an empty netter. McDavid had a bit of an off night though despite the hat trick (which all came on the PP). Still created some chances and couldn't convert on a clear breakaway, but he was getting matched with Nurse all night who played very well at even strength.

The thing about Conner Mcdavid is how high his celling is. Last year he was a few steps behind Crosby, I said Mcdavid is great but he will not be Crosby esque in his NHL career. This year he has improved leaps and bounds and show no signs of stopping, its almost a monthly improvment, I've never really seen any thing like it. I see people saying that his strength is a bit of a weakness but from last year to this year, its crazy how much stronger he has got. The kid keeps growing and growing, as a sabres fan there is no bitterness I would have given my left arm to have Mcdavid on Buffalo. Oilers have them selves a very exciting cant miss super star in the making, go sabres go.

2 goals 2 assists tonight.

7 points (5 goals, 2 assists) in 2 games this series

30 points (16 goals, 14 assists) in 11 games this playoffs

That is NHL 15 easy mode stats right there

Great series so far. The Hounds were hyped up as the ultimate shut down force against McDavid. So far, it's not working out so well. Also lots of credit to Dylan Strome today.

Playoff ppg for McDavid this year is now higher than Crosby's final year in the Q. He's also scored more goals than Crosby's 14 total in two fewer games. 16 goals in 11 playoff games, lol. Beast mode activated.

Final/draft year junior playoff run totals:

McDavid 11GP, 16G, 13A, 29 PTS (2.63 ppg)*playoffs still ongoing
Crosby 13GP, 14G, 16A, 31 PTS (2.38 ppg)
Tavares 14GP, 10G, 11A, 21 PTS (1.5 ppg)
P. Kane 16GP, 10G, 21A, 31 PTS (1.93 ppg)
Stamkos 9GP, 11G, 0A, 11 PTS (1.22 ppg)

Otters and Oilers are fairly similar words visually. We should've known all along. Also "E.O." in both team names #illuminaticonfirmed

Is it 30 points now or 29? I keep reading both.

With an assist and two goals tonight, McDavid has 29 points. Some people thought he should've been credited with an assist on Strome's first period goal as well, but turns out it was Travis Dermott who made the pass.

Edit: looks like they gave a second assist to McDavid after all. 30 points it is.

Some of the best prospects from the OHL in the last 25 years have put up about 35-40 points, guys like Lindros for example.

Some good/elite players have also put 35-40 points, usually on pretty stacked teams like London, Windsor.

So what Mcdavid is doing right now is very impressive, he seems to have found another gear. I hope he gets out of this round and continues to pile up the points.

Mario had 52 points in his QMJHL playoffs.

He most likely will pass Crosby from 2005 in terms of playoff points. Adding more fuel to the fire!

Crosby and Mcdavid are much different hockey players to me. I don't think that Crosby is the best at any one aspect of the game. For me it's the overall some of his parts that makes him the best.

I feel that McDavid will be a much more explosive hockey player than Crosby. Apples and oranges as they say.

and McDavid will probably beat Ehlers point total from this year (31pts in 14gms)
and maybe even Drouin's playoffs from last year (41pts in 16gms)
so hopefully he'll have 12 pts in the next 5 games against SOO.

But as was mentioned before, McDavid's playoffs this year is probably the best by a draft eligible player, ever?

Ever? No.

Mario Lemieux: 14GP - 29G - 23A - 52P

In recent memory? Probably, if he can keep it up. If he has a couple quiet games he'll probably settle in around where Crosby's playoffs were, if he continues his absurd pace he'll pass what Crosby did.

It is hard to compare McDavid to other players as there is a lot more defence played and the offence is not as high

This is accurate.

Look at the numbers of the top OHL draft picks. Back when my age group (lol...) was drafted (91's), the top few players were generally posting 110-150 pts in the GTHL/OMHA. Daniel Levin, who went 1st this year, put up something like 70 points, and was widely touted as being the top offensive player in his age group.

McDavid is unbelievable, these numbers are ludicrous given how good guys in the OHL are these days.

I agree with the Crosby statement if you're excluding IQ. I think his hockey knowledge is what brings all his other attributes together so well.

Also he may not be the best at 1 exact skill but he is probably in the top 10 for nearly all of them, the guy has virtually no flaws.

I have to admit, McDavid's upward trajectory is impressive. In my opinion, he came into this year just below Tavares level, and he has just risen rapidly throughout the year, moving up to where I am finally ready to say he is a Lindros/Crosby level prospect.

Oops, meant to say two goals and an assist...

But looking at the OHL boxscore now, it looks like McDavid did end up with four points.

Originally they didn't give him an assist on the first goal even though it was clearly him that passed it to Strome. It's not like it bounced off his skate and was debatable. He had clear possession of the puck and made a perfectly uninterrupted pass to Strome. I really don't know why it took so long for them to give him credit for it.

Better the Crosby, I've never seen a player who can make plays at the speed he does, it's unprecedented. The game is in truly slo motion for him.
