The pessimist in me says forget the world juniors, even if he were to recover in time, after missing 5-6 weeks of action he'd be mostly ineffective coming back in that high intensity tournament. A tournament that I've been waiting for ever since I first saw him live in the GTHL as a 14 year old.
I'm disappointed Connor, you should know better and I hope you've learned a valuable lesson.

P.S. C. Button further distinguishes himself as a world class a-hole.

Geez the defendes didn't have a clue there

Then again it's McDavid... he has his excuse

How about playing the body next time? Though I guess the D always look bad on highlight goals. I guess it's easy to get mesmerized by quick dekes like that.

And oh, bad luck there with the hand, but a leading scorer shouldn't engage in fights, they have others to fight for them. I would rather see Zetterberg turtle before getting into a fight that a 4th liner should take care of.

That said, anything can happen in the heat of the moment, and bad luck is always a factor no matter how you play.

Fighting was a decision he made, and one he probably regrets now. It's almost funny how he talked about this exact situation some time ago.

In the end it's something he needs to live with now. Of course it's a loss for the OHL and the WJC, but that is what happens when people fight.

Did it on purpose so he could give Eichel half a chance to overtake him for #1 in the draft rankings.

Ahh...he did the math and realized buffalo has an 80% chance of drafting 2nd...and he has to do his part to land in his home away from home.

Kid is clever.

The jig is up, now Bettman will surely give Buffalo the 1st pick.

Ah the moralists. It sucks for him and he knows it. That's enough.

Hilarious rant by Button, taking it way too personal and almost crying.

how ironic, he gave this interview not to long ago, check out 11:12, he should have stuck to his own conscience

That's actually so stupid considering he just said in that interview that a teammate(?) of his broke his hand and was out for 3 months after fighting...and then he just goes and does this. Not very bright. Gonna suck if he misses the WJC's. I was looking forward to seeing him completely destroying that tournament. Oh well.

I don't see why people are so fussed about Button. His statement that McDavid was the best player outside the NHL was over the top, but other than that, he was right in what he said.

He and Wheeler sure are annoying to listen to, though.

The fact he saw his teammate break his hand in a fight makes his decision to drop them even more questionable. I can't help but think the only reason he dropped the gloves was because Cianfrone was 5 foot 8 with 0 PIM's on the season. Shoulda went with his gut from that interview with MacKenzie.

All the guy's criticising McDavid's decision to drop the gloves, despite knowing what happened to his teammate, must have never played competitive sports before.

Yeah, it was McDavid's right to fight, and he'll still go #1 no matter how much time he misses, but it's completely understandable that people are upset. He took away people's chance to see something historic, for really no reason at all.

He will soon realize that his decisions impact the hockey world. It's a blow to hockey, plain and simple. Especially if he misses the world juniors.

I heard a story about how early in his pro career someone was giving it to Mario Lemieux, so he dropped the gloves to take care of business himself. When he got back to his bench, instead of being praised for fighting his own battles, his coach tore an absolute strip off of him and told him to never do it again as long as he played.

I guess the moral is just because you can doesn't mean you should. I get that his intentions were good but this was just a terrible, pointless decision that negatively impacted himself, his junior team, and potentially team Canada.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery (especially, selfishly, as a WJC ticket holder).
