It was MacKenzie that came out and said that he talked to a lot of scouts, and they would all take McDavid first overall in this year's draft.

McDavid is the best prospect to come along since Crosby. At 15/16, he was already among the elite in the OHL and will just get better as he gains size and strength. It's hard to believe he has two more full years in junior before he gets drafted.

If that kid doesn't make the WJC there's something really wrong with HC, even if he's a 16 year old.

He would be a first-liner, no questions asked. The guy just oozes pure talent.

Just don't snub him like MacKinnon and we're golden. Even when McDavid wasn't scoring in the U-18 he was still creating chances and being dangerous. Give him better wingers at the U-20 and we'll ride him to victory.

He gotta take huge step or two in next couple years to be in same discussion that crosby. That's the thing when you talk about some 15-16 year olds, you don't know if they make those steps at all. He looks like man, ahead of schedule. it may make him look better than he is.

Tavares.

He's a special talent for sure, but I think you're forgetting Tavares.

Can't wait to see the numbers McDavid puts up in 13/14!

Tavares was more physically developed at that age and able to impose his game right from the start in the OHL. I'm a fan of Tavares, but I believe that Connor will be better and will continue to show improvement. Tavares peaked and maintained a high level in his second season through his fourth. McDavid has better vision and that will continue to show.

I dont necessarily disagree with you, as I agree that McDavid has more to grow into than Tavares did, in terms of upper end scoring potential.

That being said, I think you are wrong to say McDavid has better vision. Vision isnt just seeing passes, its also the ability to see open space when you are carrying the puck, and Tavares is absolutely elite when it comes to that.

When I looked at the pre-NHL John Tavares I saw three skills that had me convinced he would be a star:
1. Strength with the puck. Even when his skating was weaker, he was very strong on his skates.
2. Vision / Hockey IQ. His vision and hockey IQ (different concepts I know) were at the top of the NHL the second he skated on the ice for his first game.
3. Finishing ability. Outstanding wrist shot, excellent hand-eye, a menace in tight.

Its rare to find a player with vision and with finishing ability like Tavares, in fact I would say only Crosby combines those two skills better than JT.

Tavares is awesome. I think he is the most surgical scorer I've seen in a long time. That vision to score is better than just about anybody in the NHL and he breaks down opponents in a way that is unique and makes him a special talent in his own right. I see McDavid having a more well rounded set of tools though when it comes to passing and using his teammates, on top of his own one on one skills. Skating was a knock on Tavares pre-draft. That won't be the case with Connor. His body control and footwork are outstanding. Coupled with his vision, I stand by my opinion that he will be the best draft pick since Sid.

When youve got hands and IQ like this kid theres only one player for us to compare him to for our generation: Crosby.

To me, McDavid is more explosive than Crosby on his rushes. Crosby has more of a relaxed playmaking style. So you can't really compare both of them in terms of style, but definitely have the same type of skill sets. Hands, skating, deking, hockey IQ are all off the charts for both of them. Still too early to tell witch one will be better.

McDavid is literally everything you want in an offensively gifted player. He has the hands of Drouin, the vision of RNH, and the skating of Mackinnon.

I don't think iv'e ever seen a player make the game look as fluid as he does in all things offensive, definitely not at that age.

McDavid is a fantastic skater.

Excited to see how he does next year.
