Thanks for the link. That was an interesting read.

I agree with the author's key point or "buzz kill" using stats from a a 26 game stretch to try and prove a point. It's all interesting fodder for debate...but Sid has to stay healthy and put up big points for the next few years (His prime years are coming up).... I realize that those injuries he sustained were not his fault..as that deflection probably would have broken Iron Man's jaw...but really, he has to stay healthy, play full or almost full seasons, win another cup or two (being optimistic) and have a better Olympic tournament in 2014 than 2010 (golden goal aside) and am hoping for another gold medal. When I see those numbers and they are in Gretzky/Lemieux/Jagr territory, then I'll be more accepting of the generational talent label. Until then I'm still on the side of Exceptional Talent.

I don't think any prospect will ever be Crosby. Sidney is an unreal hockey player.

McDavid reminds me of JT, but not with his Junior accolades.

... Point is McDavid is a generationsl superstar and the price to pry him away for a faster arrical back to contender willne sky high..IF that team decides thesoeturm for him is a deal so good they just cannot turn it down...

I'm not really even sure why I decided to highlight this particular portion of that... interesting analysis... for some reason it just sang to me with a special voice in a post that was a choir of wonderment.

How good will McDavid be? Put it this way...if Team Dynasty...a.k.a. the Chicago Blackhawks want to become the dynasty of all dynasties..then they trade in 2015 at the draft prior to the #1 overall being selected to obtain that pick from the lotto winning team as follows: Patrick Kane, an emerged Nick Leddy,Brandon Saad, whoever started as the Blackhawks number 2 line centre in 2014/15whoever the Hawks drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft PLUS the Blackhawks emtire own 2015 draft slots..Such a talent haul of 4 NHL starters of quality PLUS the Hawks 214 first: rounder, PLUS the Hawks ' entite 2015 draft slots OUGHT to immediately improve that bottom feeder teamthay held that lotto pick into a playoff te and into a long term strpng team as the 2014 first and thepicks from 2015 the Hawks put into the deal start arriving as nhlers down the line..Meanwhile they get 4 starting nhlers fo teamr their team immediately including a Kane still just 27 then..an emerged Leddy for their top pairing D, Saad who by then also emerges into a top line ready guy by then and whoever the Blackhawks started at centre for the prior 2 yrs on their 2nd line...Pirri or Leblanc.. OR the lotto winner team could refuse all that talent and quality and depth of the added picks and just tske McDavid..who by himself will not turn a team around in one year into the playoffs.. So Like EDM they would spend 3 or more urs building up their own talent pool with high picks and WAITING for this kiddie talent to mature and get experoenced and get better..Or accept such a fanasy haul from one of the few teams that is deep enough to give up all that talent plus their 2014 and 2015 first rounders and the rest of their2015 draft slots. It seems an enormous price for any NHL team to pay just to get 1 kid..but if amy team can afford such a price it would be the Blackhawks...of course team lotto winner migjt not wish to pay Kane his mext contract cost and Leddy's mext contract and Saad's next contract...all due to start again for that seasom of 2015/16...and so it will cost them megabucks to improve faster. ..they may opt to go cheaper with justmcDabid and wait 3-5 yrs as their slower climb upto the top will take that long to finally emerge fully developed. Point is McDavid is a generationsl superstar and the price to pry him away for a faster arrical back to contender willne sky high..IF that team decides thesoeturm for him is a deal so good they just cannot turn it down.Who cam say what they would.do..but IF a deal is considered the Blackhawks have plenty of enticing assets to make such a blockbuster deal become reality..in other words McDavid is sucj a franchise generational talent that he is going to be worth such a high price in assets and picks given up to get him. He is that good.

:dunno:

And everyone lived happily ever after.

I think what he was trying to say was:

"Point is McDavid is a generational superstar and the price to pry him away from Feaster and Reichel* back to a contender will be sky high..IF that team decides the Sutter*."

*Robert Reichel will be the co-GM of the Flames in 2015 with Feaster.
**"Deciding the Sutter" means deciding to trade away one quality player for a large quantity of crap.

I actually love this post haha

If he makes the World Junior team this year, he will do it as a 16 Year Old and probably tear it up as Gretzky did at 16...

WHOA NELSON!

Like the majority on here, I believe McDavid is going to be hockey's next big star, but to say he'll dominate the World Juniors like Gretzky did at the same age is IMMENSELY optimistic.

If McDavid manages to get 17 or more points at the upcoming World Juniors, I reckon the HFboard servers would crash and TSN would consider naming the network after him.

i don't think the age gap is all that significant - crosby was 5 months older than mcdavid, and mcdavid had been playing up a year for the few years before he was drafted - so came from minor midget. it wasn't like he tried to make the jump from bantam.

in mcdavid's upcoming season he will be older than crosby was during his rookie year and will have had the advantage of already playing junior for a year.

Any way you want to slice it, Crosby had a full year of development over McDavid when comparing those stats. That's a pretty big deal. Even bigger when you factor in how they're getting bigger, stronger, faster at that age.

I got HIGH after reading this post.

your posts are entertaining enough on the hawks board...but when i think of the reaction of people who aren't used to you when they read something like this, it just makes me laugh harder.

You guys haven't taught him to use paragraphs and all that fancy stuff yet?

Mcdavid's best quality is his hockey mind. Other players have similar co-ordination, his feet, etc. No one has his reads, his intuition, his creativity. This is what creates big gaps between himself and his peers. He is smarter than u, he can read u better than u can read him. Thats what it comes down too. His hockey IQ is untouchable and hard to say when its ceiling will stop. The genius part of his game is Gretzky like. He has this element to his game where the puck is following him around the ice, like he had watched game tape beforehand and knew where the puck was going to be. I dont know how to explain it. When he is on, he appears to be telepathic and magnetic with the puck. His dominant performance at U18 was an example of this. He made it look so easy everything that was happening. He was smarter than everyone else, he countered everything u did to him. I believe he can put his name in the same sentence as all of the greats in NHL history. I believe he is a hockey genius.

I mean, I hear this each year with Stamkos, Hall, Tavares, and Yakupov in succession as they find success at a very young age, and they are all great players, but none of them I would see in the same league as Crosby (Stamkos is a great goal scorer, but it's like comparing Hull to Gretz)

I have not seen the kid play so I will take your words on it, but there is always one kid who does great at a young age in the juniors that gets anointed as the next one. I look at Crosby's 16 year old season and I see more than 2 points per game.

Tavares did it too, he just couldn't up his game to the next level though and is "only" a ppg player. It takes a really special combination of skills/skating/hockey iq to be a player like Crosby. For what it's worth btw, McDavid's 16 year old season is NEXT year.

I don't think Crosby was bigger than him at that age...and the development issue isn't a big deal...McDavid had been playing up a year for *at least* the three years prior to entering the OHL and had been playing on teams that were better than or equal to the teams Crosby had played on. The fact that McDavid was able to lead the G in scoring, by a comfortable margin iirc, as an UA in minor midget shows what development stage he was at entering the OHL.

he looks better than all prospects at his age +this draft / i want russian MacD too) - but we have not same free ice arenas for children and, i think, never will have

Mcdavid has never played with his own age group. Before Minor Atom, he played with kids as much as 3 years older.

It might be most impressive that of all 4 exceptional status player Taveres had a late birthday. Ekblad Feb 4, Mddavid Jan 13, Day Jan 6 are very close to being born with the previous class. For watever reason year after year, special hockey players are born in January and February, it extends to the NHL greats too.

209 points in 88 games , I believe thats the all time GTHL record.

when did he and bennett jump ship to the marlies? for '10/11...or was it before that?

yes, age-wise Tavares is the most impressive - he didn't turn 15 until the middle of sept. when he joined Oshawa...it's pretty amazing to think he was a player who went straight from the draft to the NHL...but had still packed in 4 years of jr.

re the birth dates of NHL greats...there have been some studies that have been done to the effect that players born earlier in the year tend to have an advantage...but that's not the case for everyone - and the most talented will come through. Gretzky was a January b-day...Lemieux was born in October. Crosby is August, MacKinnon is September.

what you see to an extent re the NHL draft is the kids with 'late b-days' getting drafted high - guys like Jones, Murray, Yakupov, Hall, Tavares, Kane.

Yes 10-11. Minor Bantam year. I honestly have never seen 2 minor hockey players have the type of chemistry those two guys have. A kind of telepathic communication.

Ya its pretty interesting. Even if u look at other sports. Gretzky- Jan 26, Bill Russel - Feb 12, Jordan - Feb 19, Ruth - Feb 6, Hank Aaron - Feb 5th, Jackie Robinson - Jan 31, Jim Brown - Feb 17, Jack Nickalus - Jan 21, Mark SPitz - Feb 10, Tiger Woods - Dec 30th (close enough)

More Hockey greats born in Jan or Feb...Bossy, Hasek, Savard, Chelios, Jagr, Messier, Bobby Hull, Bourque, Sawchuk, Art Ross.. etc
