Yes 10-11. Minor Bantam year. I honestly have never seen 2 minor hockey players have the type of chemistry those two guys have. A kind of telepathic communication.

you'd need another player like mcdavid to make your 'test case' work - maybe it was 'telepathic communcation' - or maybe mcdavid was good enough to work w/ anyone he played w/.

mcdavid did fine w/o bennett this year - and bennett did fine w/o mcdavid.

re mcdavid - when did he start w/ yse...b/c, no offense, but it's not the most impressive thing on the planet that a kid could play up on that team.

Ya its pretty interesting. Even if u look at other sports. Gretzky- Jan 26, Bill Russel - Feb 12, Jordan - Feb 19, Ruth - Feb 6, Hank Aaron - Feb 5th, Jackie Robinson - Jan 31, Jim Brown - Feb 17, Jack Nickalus - Jan 21, Mark SPitz - Feb 10, Tiger Woods - Dec 30th (close enough)

More Hockey greats born in Jan or Feb...Bossy, Hasek, Savard, Chelios, Jagr, Messier, Bobby Hull, Bourque, Sawchuk, Art Ross.. etc

i dug up the study that was done recently = http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0057753

that aside, like i said - the great players succeed no matter when they're born. crosby was fine being born in august. stamkos is january, tavares is september, gretzky is january, lemieux is october, etc.

2015: McDavid
2013: MacKinnon
2011: Nugent-Hopkins
2009: Tavares

Every other year a playmaking Canadian center goes 1st OA, and is the next Crosby.

That's insulting to the Nuge hype. He was the next Gretzky. Get your facts straight, sir.

Not just play up, but dominate the age group. 4 out of 5 OMHA championships with YSE, isnt that impressive enough? The Silver Medal in the Quebec International Peewee Tournament with YSE. That was followed by more championships with the Marlboros, Exceptional status, OHL Rookie of the Year, U18 dominance as an underager, MVP of U18, Gold Medal U18. Not sure what u mean by not impressive. These results are not stopping at any level he plays at.

When it came to Mackinnon people were just comparing the developement path he and Crosby shared (coming from the same town, shattucks,QMJHL at 16) they're totally different players. As for McDavid he and crosby play a SIMILAR STYLE, people here are just completely exaggerating

Steve Yzerman and his staff should bring McDavid to the Olympics kinda like when team USA Basketball put Anthony Davis in their lineup for the London Olympics even before he was drafted lol

no. wrong. ppl (incl, iirc, hnic), started using their geographic similarity as an excuse to pump mack as the next crosby.

...obviously, that's not Nate's fault - and to his credit eventually his parents tried to shut it down (after he got enough 're crosby' press...but that's another story).

I think it is closer to compare McDavid to Gretzky than it is to compare Crosby to Gretzky.

Not saying that Crosby isn't better. But style, hockey IQ etc...

McDavid was put on a terrible team at a young age and still produced. Aside from the shiny new toy syndrome, I honestly think he will be better than any of the 1st overalls since Crosby.

Who ever tanks that year is going to get an incredible player.

Whoever WINS the lottery that year..

Just noticed that last year playing for the otters he had 66pts but was a -24.

I know plus minus is a tough stat to judge a player by but that seems like an awful lot of goals against when he's on the ice, no? Was it just a bad team?

To be more precise, the Edmonton scout (and thus all Oilers fans henceforth) stated that RNH had "the best vision he'd seen since Gretzky", but it's still a hilarious comparison.

And Ray Ferraro going on and on about how he thinks, "RNH sees the ice the way Gretzky would have".

It was just dumb, and I'm a big RNH fan.

He will be a great player. I really hope Calgary doesn't get him.

What's wrong with that? He's not a super athletic guy or has a ridiculous shot or has amazing hangs. He produces based upon his vision.

I don't think it's fair to judge a 16 year old kid and say that he's the next Crosby. Nobody will be the next Crosby. He'll be the next Connor McDavid, either better or worse than Sid. At the rate that he's progressing, I will say he has a shot to be a 100 point NHL'er annually, but only time will tell. It should be fun to watch him this year. He will once again be playing with not a whole lot of help on Erie. (Burakovsky isn't coming and Strome won't help too much if they play together.). It will also be interesting to see if he can be the youngest player to make the World Juniors for Canada in a very long time. Only time will tell on this kid, so let's just sit back and watch.

McDavid's team, The Erie Otters finished 19th out of 20 teams in the OHL with a record of 19-40-4-5 with 312 goals against in 68 games. Everyone who played over 10 games is a minus... Rookie Of The Year Runner-Up, Nikolay Goldobin was -7. Aaron Ekblad was -5 in his rookie year. I wouldn't put any stock into +/-
