Who will Monahan be playing with? Who will Hall be playing with? Rychel will be losing Khohklachev, and he didn't fair very well last year without him. Meanwhile, in Erie, Connor Brown will be returning and Dylan Strome will be joining Erie as well. If Washington can convince Burakovsky to go there, McDavid will have a sniper to play with as well.

Barrie's not going to be a very good team next year, nor will Windsor or especially Ottawa and McDavid is more talented than any of those players regardless.

Erie will be a poor team next year. Adding Strome - and even Burakovsky will not change that.

Re Monahan - he managed to put up 78 points in 58 games playing on the worst team in the entire OHL. It is not a stretch to think he will be able to better that next year.

As far as talent goes, the players who typically win the scoring title in the OHL (or are near the top) aren't the most talented players in the league - they tend to be 19 year olds who are able to dominate over the younger players. To thing McDavid will come out on top playing for a weak team as a 16 year old is a stretch. Maybe you will be right and he will win the scoring title by a large margin like you claim...however, I doubt you will be - I don't think he wins it at all.

Stopped reading at that. Very dense way of thinking. Point totals are not the be all end all for evaluating players. There is a reason Reebok picked this kid up with a half million dollar endorsement at 15.

Yep, and the reason is the same as why there are a thousand McDavid threads on HF Boards - Hype. Everyone wants to jump on that next band wagon, most of all a company like Reebok.

how is crosby not a generational talent? he is pretty much the undisputed best player in the league. and will be for 5+ more years

How you figure. Ovi has more Hart and Lindsey (Pearson) awards as the best player in the league voted by the writers and players, Datsyuk is the most complete player in the league, and Stamkos is the best scorer. Crosby might get a lot of votes, but clearly it is not undisputed. Crosby has youth on Datsyuk, but the other guys are going to give him a run in years to come. There are MANY people that believe Crosby isn't even the best player on his team.

Erie will be about as poor as any of the teams listed, and McDavid is arguably the most talented player in the OHL. Another thing that will work in his favour is that he likely won't be on Team Canada. He probably should be, but he won't. If Monahan is in the OHL, he'll be on that team, as will Domi and Rychel will have a very good shot as well.

And that's not necessarily true. Rob Schremp lead the OHL in 2006, Patrick Kane in 2007, Tavares would have in 2008 if not for the WJC, Hall/Seguin in 2010, etc. A lot of times, the most talented players do lead the league. Obviously isn't not always the case, but it's not really slanted in favour of a 19-year-old or over-ager.

The only thing that's stopped Crosby from leading the league in scoring in each of the past 3 seasons has been health. Other wise, he'd have 3 more Art Ross', 3 more Hart's and 3 more Ted Lindsey's. He's pretty clearly the best player in the game. He dominates the regular season and dominates the playoffs and unlike Ovechkin, there hasn't been any drop-off in Crosby's play at any point of his career. He's been consistently dominant.

Kane and Hall did it as 18 year olds. Schremp was 20...and you haven't mentioned 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, or 2013.

Like I said...one of us will be right the other will be wrong. I know you're confident that I'm wrong...obviously I don't agree.

Rookie Juniors Seasons
Connor McDavid(OHL/15) - 66 Pts in 63 Games
John Tavares(OHL/15) - 77 Pts in 65 Games
Sidney Crosby(QMJHL/16) - 135 Pts in 59 Games

Connor McDavid is the real deal. I'm not guna say how good he'll better or compare him to anyone. All I know is I'm excited to see this kid play in the NHL one day and he will be Great... He broke the U-18 scoring record for Canada as a 16 year old. If he makes the World Junior team this year, he will do it as a 16 Year Old and probably tear it up as Gretzky did at 16... Bob McKenzie said many teams would have drafted McDavid 1st Overall this past draft as a double-underager if it was legal to do so.

What player of his generation is better?

Again, people use the term "generational talent" a little too liberally. I don't subscribe to it. Sid is the best player in the league, but he hasn't distanced himself far and away so much better from his peers that I'd tag him with the term. But ..you can call him what ever you want... I'm just a little more strict with the term. I'm a Sid fan, so I hope he can now stay healthy, perform and win a few more cups/Olympics etc...but I do hope he gets a handle on his in game emotional meltdowns...the last 2 years (playoffs) have not been his finest.

That's a bit overboard.

I think he was a "generational talent" in the CHL. Cannot name too many players who were better at age 16 and 17 as Crosby was (18 and 19 for that matter too).

Okay guys, I think we have a real deal here. Guy is 97born and he dominates 18 World Championships like that?

It will be really, reaaaally interesting to see how he does next season in OHL. 60 games, 110 points?

I´m getting Crosby-ish wibes from this kid..

McDavid is SCARY good. Reminds me of Forsberg already at his age. He definitely has the talent to be the top player in the NHL if he continues to grow and evolve.

McDavid is DEFINITELY going to the World Junior's in December. He pretty much punched his ticket at the U-18's, and no doubt he should be one of the top players in the CHL next year and will likely dominate the WJ camp.

hes playing 3on3 in the midget loop here in Newmarket lol, hes a good kid works hard. A ton of the kids I train played minor hockey with him and now that he is in the OHL he is resurfacing around Newmarket which is good for this community. best of luck moving forward

Yeah, not really fair to compare those seasons because of the age gap. McDavid's upcoming season should be compared to Crosby's rookie one.

i don't think the age gap is all that significant - crosby was 5 months older than mcdavid, and mcdavid had been playing up a year for the few years before he was drafted - so came from minor midget. it wasn't like he tried to make the jump from bantam.

in mcdavid's upcoming season he will be older than crosby was during his rookie year and will have had the advantage of already playing junior for a year.

Is this dude good enough to be considered non-bustable (assuming no injuries). Like what is his low-end? 2nd line dude?

Conclusion: Crosby definitely isn’t hanging with the greats as far as goals go (not surprising, since his season is impressive due to assists).

His points however (5.19 standard deviations from the mean) put him right in the middle of the greatness pack. The only people ahead of him are four dudes named Lemieux, Lemieux, Gretzky, and Gretzky. It’s safe to say his points totals are about as impressive as any season not had by Lemieux or Gretzky, and even then it’s right near Lemieux’s 1995-1996 season.

How good will McDavid be? Put it this way...if Team Dynasty...a.k.a. the Chicago Blackhawks want to become the dynasty of all dynasties..then they trade in 2015 at the draft prior to the #1 overall being selected to obtain that pick from the lotto winning team as follows: Patrick Kane, an emerged Nick Leddy,Brandon Saad, whoever started as the Blackhawks number 2 line centre in 2014/15whoever the Hawks drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft PLUS the Blackhawks emtire own 2015 draft slots..Such a talent haul of 4 NHL starters of quality PLUS the Hawks 214 first: rounder, PLUS the Hawks ' entite 2015 draft slots OUGHT to immediately improve that bottom feeder teamthay held that lotto pick into a playoff te and into a long term strpng team as the 2014 first and thepicks from 2015 the Hawks put into the deal start arriving as nhlers down the line..Meanwhile they get 4 starting nhlers fo teamr their team immediately including a Kane still just 27 then..an emerged Leddy for their top pairing D, Saad who by then also emerges into a top line ready guy by then and whoever the Blackhawks started at centre for the prior 2 yrs on their 2nd line...Pirri or Leblanc.. OR the lotto winner team could refuse all that talent and quality and depth of the added picks and just tske McDavid..who by himself will not turn a team around in one year into the playoffs.. So Like EDM they would spend 3 or more urs building up their own talent pool with high picks and WAITING for this kiddie talent to mature and get experoenced and get better..Or accept such a fanasy haul from one of the few teams that is deep enough to give up all that talent plus their 2014 and 2015 first rounders and the rest of their2015 draft slots. It seems an enormous price for any NHL team to pay just to get 1 kid..but if amy team can afford such a price it would be the Blackhawks...of course team lotto winner migjt not wish to pay Kane his mext contract cost and Leddy's mext contract and Saad's next contract...all due to start again for that seasom of 2015/16...and so it will cost them megabucks to improve faster. ..they may opt to go cheaper with justmcDabid and wait 3-5 yrs as their slower climb upto the top will take that long to finally emerge fully developed. Point is McDavid is a generationsl superstar and the price to pry him away for a faster arrical back to contender willne sky high..IF that team decides thesoeturm for him is a deal so good they just cannot turn it down.Who cam say what they would.do..but IF a deal is considered the Blackhawks have plenty of enticing assets to make such a blockbuster deal become reality..in other words McDavid is sucj a franchise generational talent that he is going to be worth such a high price in assets and picks given up to get him. He is that good.

your posts are entertaining enough on the hawks board...but when i think of the reaction of people who aren't used to you when they read something like this, it just makes me laugh harder.

A look of mild discomfort through the first five lines followed by giving up.
