I've seen him live 7-8 times. Impressive to say the least!

The first being an exxy game in London where he just walked around scott Harrington and scored a beauty.

Kid can skate, reads the play real well, will go to the dirty areas ( even as an underage OHLer) got great hands ect ect ect
He just gets it and has ALL the tools.
He carried a bad team as an underager. The kids for real!
Future #1 pick

To quote Bob MacKenzie, "he's a generational talent".

Will he be better than Crosby?

I doubt he does better than Crosby in the CHL. Crosby was the best offensive prospect since Mario (arguably better).

Does not mean he won't be better in the NHL though.

Anyone putting Mackinnon above McDavid at this point should have their opinion immediately disregarded. Not even close at the same age. You can really tell who has not seen McDavid play. Its obvious hes just on a higher level than your regular 1st overall pick, even an above-average one like Mackinnon. Or Ekblad and Reinhart next year.

Just a tier higher, in my opinion.

Just as Mackinnon will good but a level below Crosby, McDavid will be good but a level below MacKinnon.

I think Mcdavid is going to be better than Mackinnon never mind even equal. Those highlights don't lie. The speed, hand eye Coordination, vision and smarts were all exceptional and at the age of 16 to boot...totally unreal Mackinnon will be good but Mcdavid will be really good IMO

Will be super hyped until 1 week before the 2015 NHL draft. Then all of his weaknesses will start to be over analyzed on these boards, and he will become severely underrated. He will get drafted, and then fans will start to say that he's not all that, and he is not better than X former #1 pick because X has proven more in the NHL.

Basically, just go look at the Mackinnon vs. Hall thread in the polls section and how Mackinnon is getting trashed and losing the poll badly, despite being compared to Crosby just a few weeks ago.

Hes the next Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos and Mackinnon. Canada always has some superstar coming up hes next. I would even throw Eberle into those names.

The kid still has 2 more seasons to play before getting drafted. Setting your expectations so high leads to disappointment. If he can get anywhere close to a 2.0 PPG next season... Than I might start to buy into the Tavare/Crosby hype. Until then, he's a 16 old kid that, albeit full of promises, still has a lot to prove.

How much should a year already in the CHL factor in the comparison?

It should factor in for the adjustment period of a rookie getting used to the physicality/speed, but scoring rate of the Q in early/mid '00's should also be a factor if you are going to do that.

He's not going to get to 2.0 PpG. The league isn't the same as it was when Tavares played in it. If he scored 120+ points, that's damn impressive and at the end of the day, you just have to watch the kid play and you'll get it. He's does everything at an elite level. The same could not be said of Tavares at 16, never mind today.

Can anyone give me some more info on his shooting abilities? The highlights I watched didn't really cover many shooting goals or opportunities but the kid looks amazing.

1.99
2.66
3.17

Trade anyone for this player. Will be the third player in NHL history to top 160 points in a season.

Really like the kid. He reminds me of maybe a slightly less explosive in his prime Paul Karyia. Although I'd say McDavid has slightly better vision and is bigger and stronger.
