At the start of the year and during preseason I posted that I think McDavid is currently the best player in the world. Now that we are 9 games in, can we reevaluate? In our games so far he has looked significantly more dangerous offensively than Benn, Seguin, Kopitar, Ovechkin. He is defensively responsible almost all the time and he has to be the fastest player in the NHL.

I watch the games and perhaps it is homerism, but he has to be at minimum in the Crosby/Ovechkin tier right now. Right?

Kuznetsov might have something to say about that ;)

I love Kuznetsov, and he's a hell of a player, but there is no way he is even a top 10 player in the NHL right now. Obviously he and his teammates still had to finish, but the Oilers D was on another level of pathetic against the Caps. I think Kuznetsov will have a similar year to Kucherov's last year.

One of the two had a 5-point night when they faced each other, and it wasn't McDavid;)

Just pointing out that the claim that McDavid is *currently the best player in the world* is a bit premature.

Cool your jets

He could very well be in that tier. But it has only been 9 games. Give him a season before making those kind of claims.

Yes, it has only been 9 games for an 18 year old rookie coming into one of the worst teams in the NHL and starting off the season with the hardest schedule out of any other team. 9 games in and he's a PPG. Should be higher, and he looks to be in the tier of best players in the NHL.

The real question should be at 41 games in, how far is he ahead of everyone else?

Well that's just the thing though, isn't it? If you'd have asked that after 4 games you'd have gotten a completely different answer. Who knows where McDavid (or Eichel or Domi or Duclair etc) will be in 41 games? The fun part of all of this is we get to sit back and watch and find out.

I`m done with the Oilers season if McDavid`s out.

same... its really quite sad, if he goes out, it's like Crosby or Ovechkin being injured. The ticket value on those road games go right now if those 2 players are out. wishing a speedy recovery for Connor. the game is struggling as badly as it is.

Hes going to miss 20 games . He will be back late December or early Jan.

McDavid had surgery Wednesday and will be out months, Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli said.

Started doing upper body work outs today. Ahead of schedule by a good margin

On radio (630CHED Oilers Now) they mentioned that he hasnt been reevaluated so he is "on schedule" for the recovery until there is an evaluation. "Ahead of schedule by a good margin" part is misleading. He is still "months" away.

ya itll still be atleast a couple months forsure, most likely more... that injury takes a long time to heal... I broke mine years ago and it still took like another month after I felt as though I was almost 100% until I was actually 100%.... and hes still only like 10 days away from the procedure. Id much rather have him 110% percent and even take an extra month off to heal up just to be sure... this year will be another non playoff year for Oilers again anyways so I just feel there is absolutely no rush at all to get him back.

Agreed, no need to let this become a recurring injury by not letting it fully heal before this 18 year old goes back out there against the NHL. Honestly, I'd be less worried if he took the whole season off than if he came back ahead of schedule.

The 76'ers have Joel Embiid who looks like the next Hakeem Olajuwon, but he has had a broken foot that they've been healing for his first two seasons out of the draft. Healed all last season and then aggravated it before this season and had to have another surgery on it.

If he ever gets to play, he'll be a monster, but the Sixers are fine with letting their other pieces grow while they acquire picks on picks. Oilers should take the most cautious and patient approach to McDavids injury. No need to threaten a potential hall of fame career because you're antsy to watch him play again
