Anyone else think his skating, and puck control at speed remind them of Bure? Both have sublime top speed, acceleration, and edge work. Seem too electrify the fans with end to end rushes/breakaways multiple times each game. McDavid just looks to pass more, and Bure looked to score.

prime McDavid 40G, 60A, Bure 60G, 40A

just wondering.

If prime Mcdavid tops out at 100 points I think I'd be disappointed. I expect prime Mcdavid to be somewhere around 120.
This new 3on3 OT will let crazy fast guys like him tack on 5-10 points a year compared to what we've seen in this last 5 low scoring years.

I think its time to rename the team the Edmonton Mcdavids. In the Washington game, mcdavid was the only spark that kept them close the first 2 periods

Now against LA Oilers dont have a shot and hemmed into their own zone for first 5 minutes. McDavid gets the puck and burns a D wide and makes the goal happen.

1 point already, almost scored just now on a rush with Pouliot. Everytime the kid gets the puck it's a chance.

It's not that his speed is unreal, we all know how good he is. But he finds space for himself and generates speed by smart hockey sense, he comes from down low which is good defensively but then once the winger gets the puck he has so much separation then he can go full speed. He also attracts the other defender on the rush which gives more space for his wingers.

He looks like he's been in this league for so long. Everyone knows how good he is, they know they have to takeaway speed but he plays so low defensively that a defender can't come that low otherwise it's too easy for a breakout and leaves an odd man rush the other way.

And THAT Powerplay, my friends, is the reason why McDavid has NO chance of winning the scoring title. Beyond horrible. They are better off 5 on 5.

Someone wrote an article years back (my memory is NOT good so don't quote me on the specifics) that said, "To win the Scoring Title, you need to score at least a third of your points on the PowerPlay. The higher your PP Point Total, the better chance you have."

During the 2nd Period Power play, the Oilers were set up for (at most) 5 seconds - out of 2 minutes. The rest of the time, the D-Men struggled to pass it back and forth and keep it in the zone or were chasing the puck outside the zone. It was a mess. Just awful.

Now, compare that to someone like Patrick Kane who has Keith and Seabrook on the backend (during a PP) and Toews feeding him the puck.

Again, sadly, he has no chance of winning the Scoring Title.

I AM OFF FOR GOOD!!!!

I'm not sure it was in, but it was a phenomenal effort from Quick. I'm sure that goal, if counted, would have been a major confidence booster for McDavid and the Oilers. And with their team speed, they would have given the Kings fits if they took that game into OT.

I shudder to think what McDavid would have looked like in the 3 on 3 after that.

I completely forget he's 18. Nuge, Hall, Yak, Eb never had his two way ability in their rookie seasons.

Should have 10 points in 9 games but we'll have to settle for 9 in 9.

He'll be the next player to score 150 points in a season once he gets close to his peak in a couple of years maybe more if the Oilers draft Matthews lol.

Well he's looking like the player I thought he might be, as far as when he would first step into the league. You simply don't have that arsenal of tools and not have an impact in this game. I don't know what some people were thinking, but he was never going to bust.

I've seen you harping on the PP a lot lately. After tonight the Oilers are ranked 13th in the league on the PP an have PP goals in 5 straight games.

And of McDavid's 9 points, 33% of them are on the PP so he's got that part covered too.

That being said, I don't think he's got a shot at the Art Ross this year. But not because of the PP.

The PP has looked ugly, but it's getting better and putting goals on the board. I don't think it will be an issue for McDavid as the year goes on.

Yeah, I see what you did there. But actually he should have 11 points, Hiller doesn't make that save 9 times out of 10.

Thats a legit save where the puck didnt go in. Ill give credit to Hiller 100%. McDavids put the puck across the line a nice 10 times for real tho

He's been ROBBED by Hiller and Quick.. if he had a bit more luck, he'd be at 7 goals right now..

I was only saying these would be the goal/assist totals we could expect. Im not saying thats the exact amount he could score, as we all know McDavid could score as highly as you say.

I was prepared for some kind of rookie battle, have been disappointed thus far. Eichel has the tools to be one of the better players in the NHL, perhaps in a couple years.

McDavid is the real deal, generational talent. I honestly don't even know what kind of totals he'd be putting up if he was playing in the east, we have the better goalies out here, but its much more wide open.

if your talking about skating and puck handling at the same time, yes I totally agree with you. He's the closes thing to a Pavel Bure right now. Most exciting player Ive seen since Pavel Bure.

If he's playing in the East right he will have more points. St.Louis Chicago, L.A, Anahiem, all the Stanley cup contenders are in the west.
