Yes, the Sens did it. But that was a never before seen run that will most likely never happen again.

True, but the Oilers aren't even close to being as far out as the Sens were, and its only Feb 5th. Not saying the Oilers will do it, but now with McDavid back and getting solid goaltending finally, I don't think its the craziest idea I've ever heard. Especially if Klefbom and Nuge get back in the lineup with 15-20 games to go, who knows.

The only time this season we've been able to play Hall-Drai-Nuge as a line while McDavid was in the lineup they combined for 21 points in 3 games as a line, and we didn't even have Eberle at that time, who so far is meshing very well with McDavid. We also didn't have Kassian who has been adding some nice tertiary scoring, and even the 4th line has been producing much more the past couple months. We'll see what happens, but if this team ever gets fully healthy its not out of the question they could go on a run.

McDavid is the most talented hockey player on the planet. Right now, at 19. Period.

If this talent can flourish like it's destined to, we are in for a real treat for the next 15-20 years. McDavid is a very special talent that comes along every 30 years or so.

Yes, it's to the point where he no longer belongs on the Prospects Board. Perhaps he can get an Exceptional Status exemption again? :)

I remember in the summer when Stamkos said McDavid was better than him already at 18 years old and a lot of people here took that as lip service.

In my opinion he's the best player in the world. As a rookie 14 games into his NHL career.

Can't say the hype is out of nowhere :)

He's been talked about since he was 14. You and I both know his talent is exceptional.

Kids insane, this is what a generational talent looks like. I thought the Big E was going to go down as the best GTA prospect ever, McDavid is making it an argument tilted in his favor. Theres a reason everyone was saying he was significantly better than Stamkos and Tavares coming up, and he's proving those people right. I don't know if i've seen a player with his combo of having complete control of the puck at top speed while being 100% aware of where everyone is.

That was a Marlies split squad he just lit up, but it was nice to watch a fellow Leafs fan have a big night and speak glowingly about the Leafs.

he was facing an AHL team though.

relax it was a joke. Hopefully he keeps tearing up the league like this so the Oilers are screwed out of the number one pick this year for once.

Shots in the game were 36-35 leafs. They played fine. They didnt convert their chances while the Oilers did.

Right now he looks like he's already the best player in the NHL. It is a very small sample size since it's only 19 games into his career. I think he will need to continue playing this well for at least another 80 games before he is officially considered the world's number one player. I'm so happy he's an Oiler.

Great talent and spectacular player but lets wait one or two full seasons to credit him as the best player in the NHL. Lets not forget, Oshawa was able to shut him down last year in the finals. I will give him the credit being the best player when he leads his team to the playoffs and elevates his game there.

But I think that's more about the team than the player. All he can do is play great in the regular season. If his team is not good enough to make the playoffs, then so be it.
And I don't agree about the impact that Oshawa series has on his candidacy for best player in the league. That's like saying, "you remember that one time, against that one team a few months ago that he didn't totally dominate? Well, there's your evidence as to why Crosby is not the best player in the league". But I agree though, it will take a little while to establish if he is the best player in the NHL.

He was ppg in that series. Not shutdown

McDavid no longer qualifies as a prospect lol he's already a top 5 player in the NHL, if not the best.

Discuss McDavid .. you want to whine about the Oilers potentially getting another lottery pick, do that in your team's around the NHL or out of town scoreboard threads .. you'll be removed if all you're here to contribute are lottery posts .. thread's function is player discussion.

Asinine.

McDavid was a monster that entire playoffs. He singlehandedly destroyed SSM, including Nurse. By the time Oshawa showed up, there was plenty of proof to show Oshawa, shut down mcdavid and the Otters were done. As noted shutting him down meant only giving him a point a night.

One of the most patently bad posts in a while.

Problem with your theory is that he wasn't shut down.

Who's the best player in the NHL right now? Crosby? Ovechkin? Malkin? Kane? They've all been shut down in the playoffs on more than one occasion. That's what happens in the playoffs. Furthermore, McDavid wasn't truly "shut down" as others have noted.
