I know this might seem strange but its a BAD time for the Oilers to start winning games. I wish somehow they could just stall for 2 more months to pick up another nice player.

If they go on some insane tear and get into the playoffs fine but no team has ever done it from their position before this late in the season. And tanking for the great pick is not a bummer.

After this, the Oilers arent going to miss the playoffs again for another 10 years or so.

Didn't the Senators do it last season? They were 14 points out of a playoff spot on February 14th.

Since his junior days McDavid has always surpassed my high expectations of him. I think it's insane how he has come back and is already in possibly better form than he was before his injury. No rust on him at all; unless this is his form of "rust" and we somehow see him dominate even more in the coming weeks...

I believe Hammond was a big part of it. Talbot's been playing strong lately. It'll depend on how well the oilers can capitalize against the remaining teams that are mostly Eastern. If they manage to get back their best d man in Klefbom asap, then their chances for playoffs will increase. I don't see them making the playoffs though, but it sure feels good to watch McDavid play again.

Lmao most people admitted McDavid was the better prospect by a noticeable amount but they were arguing the gap wasn't as big as many were making it out to be. I think there might've been one guy who said Eichel was actually more NHL ready than McDavid. If you look at scoring, Eichel really isn't that far behind McDavid, especially if you look past his slow adjustment but his play has continued to improve since the start of the year. Both guys are gonna be elite 1Cs and McDavid will probably be best in the league very soon.

I do, however, remember you arguing that Marner was a better prospect than Eichel no question. Talk about homerism :handclap:

McDavid is a generational player no doubt. Stop bringing him up to try to trash Eichel because Eichel is also amazing as well especially considering he has a lot less offensive firepower to work with compared to McDavid. That's like trying to say Toews is a bad player because Crosby is elite. :help:

It was me. And Eichel was. I have always claimed Mc David will be better than Crosby and I havent seen a prospect like him since Gretzky.

But Jack was stronger and had played in the NCAA for a full year. So he was more NHL ready.

It lasted about 4 games though.

I thought it would take Mc David 20 games or so to catch up.

Yes , my bad. Well done Sens :handclap:

I still hope the Oil fall apart a bit and still land a top 10 player .Its the last chance they will get for a long long time.

Fall apart a bit? They're tied for 2nd worst in the league!:cry:

Even if McDavid is firing on all guns, the Oilers are still going to lose their fair share with the caliber of their back end.

That's what's crazy. It's inevitable he is only going to get better. Not only as an individual, but as he gains more chemistry with his team. It's true also that teams will learn to defend him better, but how much he improves and figures more little things out in the big league will greatly outweigh that. I don't even think Crosby or Ovechkin looked this good this early on in their first years, and they were playing at a time where things were opened up a lot, and powerplays were way up. Honestly I would have a hard time not seeing McDavid as he is now lead the NHL in points in 05/06.

I dunno dude. Ive been watching 'cycles' of up and coming teams for 30 years. The Oilers are on the verge of blowing the doors wide open.

Sure Columbus are chimps but that Ottawa team can skate and score goals and the Oilers made them look like fools in spite of Klefbom , RNH not playing and Yakupov turning into lazy Yak again.

When your 28th in the league with 2 months left with virtually no hope of making the playoffs, it aint the time to start racking up the wins.

We already know the team is ready to start winning and competing. I just wish they would put it off for 2 more months. They dont need the 'confidence'. Trust me.

Lmao most people admitted McDavid was the better prospect by a noticeable amount but they were arguing the gap wasn't as big as many were making it out to be.

And what we are seeing is that the gap is in reality enormous. Much bigger than even I thought it would be.

I think there might've been one guy who said Eichel was actually more NHL ready than McDavid.

No, this was a very common sentiment around here. There were pages and pages about how playing with "men" in the NCAA made Eichel more ready. And pages and pages of OHL vs NCAA debate. It definitely wasn't one person.

I do, however, remember you arguing that Marner was a better prospect than Eichel no question. Talk about homerism :handclap:

Wrong. I posted the quote from an NHL head scout who thought Marner would outscore Eichel in five years. I never said I thought Marner was the better prospect. Get out of here with that BS.

Fair enough and my bad on the Marner vs. Eichel comment. May have been someone else but I do remember someone saying they thought Marner was the better prospect.

As to the other point, however, If you're just stat watching, yes McDavid is significantly better than Eichel. There are other stuff to consider though like the fact that Eichel is playing with Girgensons, Kane, and Moulson, none of which are really known as effective scorers (Moulson has declined a good amount and Kane is more of a volume shooter which pads his advanced stats but isn't as effective on the ice) whereas McDavid gets Pouliot, Eberle, and sometimes Hall. I'd obviously still pick McDavid 10 times out of 10 over Eichel but Eichel gets underappreciated a lot coming from a neutral fan of both teams. I've only tuned in to a few Buffalo games this year and while he looked a bit shaky to start, he has shown that he is perfectly capable of dominating the flow of games with his reach, patience, strength, and vision.

McDavid had Hall for two games, this year, and was taken off because neither meshed at all. Although I understand where you're coming from- McDavid has been able to carry his linemates to his level of play. A great example is Yakupov: he was almost PPG when on a line with McDavid, and has I think only 2 goals since Mcdavid got hurt (Yak was hurt for a bit there too). Pouliot and Kane are pretty similar players.

I think Yak has something like 4P in 18GP without McDavid. Eberly's played 2 games with McDavid. Hall played 2 games with McDavid. I don't know if a Buffalo fan in the world would tell me Pouliot+Yak>>Kane+Ennis/Moulson/Girgensons before the season started, narrative pushing

for me he's better than crosby at 18/19...and at that time sid was outstanding...he's already a top 3 player in the league, makes the players around him to better players (yak, eberle,...)...hopefully he's gonna be without any major injuries, he's gonna take the league by storm by far

Man it is tough as a yotes fan ... Everytime I see the highlights, or hear his name , my mind goes back to the lottery , and in my head I see the gold card with the Oliers logo on it. And all the deep feelings of rage come back to me ..

Not only did we not get Mcdavid, we missed out in Eichel, and Matthews missed by 2 days.

Mcdavid though pretty incredible.

Looking for McDavid to have considerably more TOI in Saturday's game. Last night roughly 13 minutes TOI is not going to cut it. Time to release the Kraken.

They probably dialed back his minutes once the game was over (when it was like 5-2)

Don't think his line played the last 6-7 minutes of the game.

Correct, he did not play another shift after drawing the penalty with that weak little shove by Wideman.

And thus Eberle lost his chance at the hat trick. Hahah.

Eberle will never get an NHL hat trick it seems

And yet we and Oilers fans would kill to have your spot in the standings :) (I'm assuming the yotes are still holding the third spot down)

Yotes have an awesome future with the young players they have. I hope Jack can become a center ranked as high as I rank OEL (i.e. Top 5 in the world at his position)

this sad sack of a franchice should really thank Connor McDavid, as its evident, that if they were unlucky to not win the Lottery last year, their previous 3 1st overall picks have not played well enough to even put them into a playoff contention. That team is literally all... Connor McDavid, and without him, that sad sack of a franchice will probably be drafting number 1 again.

this kid is a truly a difference maker, my impression on the that dead beat team is totally different with and without mcDavid, some teams just suck, with or without a certain, ( Florida for example great team with Ekblad is in the line up, but bad team when he's out)

I hope he launches them into the playoffs this year, and oh yea, Fail Yakupov's gotta thank McDavid.
No we're not. And leave us out of this if you don't mind.

Good decision. They didn't need more goals and it was obvious the Sens were agitated.

I think he only got around 3 mins in the 3rd. After scoring the 5-2 goal early in the 3rd they pretty much just rolled all 4 lines. In fact they rolled all for most of the game after the early 3-0 start. Everyone seemed to be playing pretty well last night so they didn't really need to lean on any line.

Yes, the Sens did it. But that was a never before seen run that will most likely never happen again.
