The chapter on Connor and "exceptional" players in Bobby Mac's book is fantastic. The story of Connor growing up with the talent he has, dealing with jealousy and praise, envy and love.

He's had a long road here, as all kids do. He truly seems like a good young man, who just wants to win.

He's dealt with pressure his whole life.

He says he hates nothing more than people who think they are better than others. He's a great role model.

Everybody should check out that chapter.

Good luck to Connor and the Oilers! He's going to be one of the greats.

What book is this? Ima have to read this

As I've mentioned in the past. The most upsetting thing about McDavid going to Edmonton is the time difference to the East coast. Looks like I'll be staying up late for the next 20 years

He used his speed today in a few drills. No contest. Nobody could keep with him. He was walking dmen in his sleep. Its almost sureal to see.

Yeah but those are EDM defensemen, lets see him against NHL D :sarcasm:

I'm going to be watching a lot of hockey this year. The leafs are going to be bad so I'll be watching less of their games and more EDM, Buffalo, Pens, Marlies and OHL games.

As an Oilers fan I can attest to the fact that it's really not that bad if you have a hockey service that shows AHL/junior games. Gotta have the mindset that your team is going to be brutal no matter what so it's not so disappointing, then just watch some top prospects/farm prospects to help you cope.

In the skating drills he's always leading the pack. So in summary, no one can skate with him, unsurprisingly. ;)

The only guy who can keep up with him is Nurse, which is no slight on McDavid as Nurse is an excellent skater for someone who is 6'4 225lbs. Heck he's an excellent skater no matter what his size.

And to me looks like Crosby carrying the puck. Crosby has more power, and has more strength. But McDavid is faster. But that's who he reminds me of when I watch him carry the puck. I know others might have a different opinion on who he reminds them of, but for me it's Crosby.

well... why?? I don't get this.

Edmonton tanked and won it fair and square, I don't think it's fair but it is what it is.

I'm kinda glad he's in Canada.

Edmonton actually didn't tank. Arizona and Buffalo did. Edmonton won a ton of games down the stretch and it looked like Toronto would fall behind them too. Edmonton just sucked because Eakins was one of the worst coaches in NHL history (and the Oilers had 0.5 top4 defensemen).

The other guys on the ice are near NHL prospects? Or are they far off? Because Connor looked light years ahead of everyone else in the skating department. Like he could be the skating coach and they could be his students.

How fast is he? Kreider is the fastest and Ovie has the best acceleration. Is McDavid close to either?

Some are near NHL prospects (Nurse), while many are bottom of the barrel prospects that have a very slim chance at making any sort of impact at the NHL level. He's definitely way ahead of them, but I'd temper expectations once he starts playing against NHLers. Virtually every player he'll be playing against will be much better than what he has faced in orientation camp.

He's one of the faster players in the league but there will be players that are faster than him and/or have better acceleration. Where he shines is his puck control and decision making at those speeds. He might be the best in the league at puck control with speed right now as an 18-year-old.

Shame he can't shoot the puck, could have been a generational talent.

Im actually disapointed that his first game is in St.louis, it would have been better if his first game was at home against Calgary.

know what's funny. I remember with a couple weeks left in the season leafs and oilers were neck and neck in the standings and I remember saying to myself that 3rd last spot was coveted, it just had this glow to it...then we went on to win a few meaningless games of course true to leaf fashion.

Crosby had the same knock against him. He worked at and is now great. Guys with this type of talent and drive will fix what needs to be. I have no doubt he will eventually get his shot to a very good level.

So did Gretzky by the way. He also managed to over come that issue and score the odd goal.

his 65 goals in 67 games this year tells me that won't be a problem(Crosby had 80 in 75 and has scored 50, also played in weaker Q without breaking his hand). He won't be generational because he won't be the shot on the point on the PP or what?

Actually he can. Watch every highlight package of McDavid on YT and you'll see a number of outside snipes.

However, his shot is heavily underutilized as his OHL career progressed. I think it was his first season where he was actually shooting a ton and scoring on more pretty shots from the perimeter.

Also, McDavid is a generational talent. Crosby was also docked for his shot and that didn't preclude him from living up the hype.
