He's pretty much generational since McDavid.

What amazes me is you could put fourth-line-esque non-NHL bound players on his line and yet he'll still present dominance.

Gonna watch him when he's in Winnipeg. WHL is a harder league to play in as well.

Did he not stay in Sweden with HV71?

No but Swedish league would have offered him more of a challenge. Would be interesting to see if he tries his luck in the men’s league back in Sweden for his draft year if he dominates the WHL for a couple years .

If he was on a strong team like Brandon or Winnipeg, I might question his numbers this year but the Pats are not strong but he is making them look much better then they actually are and that is pretty important for any player when you can make poorer teammates look better

So Matt Savoie was a pretender to the throne of best prospect

Bedard has likely been seen as the better of the 2 for a few years now, but Savoie is still putting up the 3rd best ppg in the USHL for a 16 year old in the last 20 years behind just Jack Hughes and Svechnikov. Both are great prospects with bright futures.

This year is really a great teaser for them, a smaller sample size in an odd WHL season with more 15 yo and less euros, but still a strong league nonetheless, next year should be great if we can (hopefully) get a full season in with both Bedard and Savoie in the league full time.

I don't know if that makes him a better prospect than McDavid, whose size and skating ability made his game more transferable and probably gave him the higher ceiling, but Bedard's shot is already NHL level.
Would argue with McDavid's skating giving him a higher floor, rather than higher ceiling. There was no chance he would be irrelevant simply because his skating and puck handling at high speed is at such an insane level.

Agree, he's looked great on Dubuque... would add that going to a better run franchise could certainly be assisting in his development.

Seeing him get absolutely steamrolled last year while his teammates stand around apathetically was fairly disconcerting.

Man as a Hurricanes fan I'm so bitter about this kid. We were that close to having a McDavid level talent in Lethbridge and instead we trade him for a couple guys we didn't need and we lose in the first round. Just typical Lethbridge luck. Amazing what Bedard is doing wonder how well he'll do during the actual season next year.

Going to be a long offseason with tons of time to train, he's going to slaughter

Leading the league in scoring is pretty insane. I guess the question then just is, what is he going to be able to do over the next two years?

How would you guys say is the level of the WHL this year considering every team has 15 year olds on their team except one team ? Is it the same as previous years ? The kid is tearing the league apart lol

It's definitely a bit weaker for sure. I could be wrong but I don't think there's any imports playing in this shortened season and you also have a bunch of the East Division teams that were really strong in the past few years that sold the farm off for a run at the Memorial Cup. 2017-2018 season that division was easily the strongest in the entire CHL, so they're still building back up from that high, and the lows that came after it. I think Saskatoon, Brandon, and Winnipeg are the clear 3 good teams this year, and everyone else is a mix of 'meh'.

Who is currently the youngest player to ever win a WHL scoring title? Rob Brown at age 17? If Bedard won the title this year you've got to think he'd be breaking that record by more than a full calendar year.

Best I can remember was RNH tied Mark Stone for 3rd with 106 as a 17 year old in 2011. Linden Vey had 116 and Tyler Johnson had 115.

Would be more interesting if he does the Matthews route and does Swiss/Another Europe league.

Despite Matthews being a trail blazer in that regard, a grand total of ZERO prospects has taken the same option since.

Let's just see what he can do in the WHL for a full season first. He's not even finished this season yet!

Matthews was able to as he already had a big frame able to put up with men.

Plus he was a late draft year being born after the September 15 cut off. So he was already around 18 when the season in Switzerland began.

Bedard is a July birthday, so he’s like 17 when he’s drafted in a normal year as the draft is usually at the end of June. One of the younger players in his draft class, whereas Matthews was a late birthday and one of the oldest in his draft class.

Nevertheless, he might already be the best player in the WHL. At 15 years old. That is pretty damn mind boggling to think about how good he could be by his draft year and beyond. Of course a generational talent has to enter the WHL right when fans aren’t allowed to go to games yet. Can’t wait to see him play in person live.
