You're setting your expectations a little too high. What 16 year old not named Wayne Gretzky has ever been a difference maker for Team Canada at the WJHC? If he makes the team, and that's a big if, I expect him to have little impact...couple of goals + couple of helpers against teams like Austria.

But...of course there's always a chance that I'm completely wrong and that he clicks with a couple of linemates and lights it up. Always happy to be wrong in this instance.
Yeah, it's even rare for high-end 17 year olds to be in prominent roles. McDavid being a top 2 center is the most recent one that springs to mind. Prior to that Ekblad got a notable role at 17. Lafreniere was on the 3rd line, Byfield was moved around the bottom 6, etc.

I'm glad we can finally agree that he was 3rd in scoring. So you think McDavid's production would have been the same without Brown, Fox and Bura on the the team?
It would still have been high, but ignoring he out-paced Fox is just trying to purposefully downplay what McDavid did to prop up Bedard right now. Of players who played over 50 games he was 2nd in PPG in the OHL. And, I think he would have still put up ridiculous numbers. He was the best player on that team. I mean, Bedard has one of the highest producing defenders in the WHL on his team on a per game basis who was just the 35th pick, So, it's not like he has no one on his team. Plus, playing on bad teams tends to lead to more ice-time and opportunity. If your team has two dominant lines they are going to get fairly evenly rotated.

It has nothing to do with propping Bedard up and minimizing McDavid - it was a response to the statement that teamates, coaches etc have nothing to do with production if you are generational. They do matter - to what extent who knows but it definitely is a factor. I just said 3rd on the team in scoring to illustrate the fact that there were othere good players. I could have said there were 3 other players with better and/or similar production. I didn't know the chief of stickler police was on duty tonight.

You'd have to find a generational player who struggled with bad teammates though. Wasn't really the case with Crosby at 16 who is the other recent CHL example from the past 20 years. Simply put, even the guys who are the tier below generational tend to destroy the CHL at 16 like Stamkos, MacKinnon or Tavares even if they have a substandard supporting cast.

The Pats stink, problem is they went all in years prior with the Steel, Brooks, Mahura, Lechyshyn, Wagner core and have absolutely no good players to complement the kid. Paddock either needs to make some trades to improve the team or trade the kid for a record haul cause he's gonna be in the NHL at 18.

Yep. Watching last night's game, he was playing with Stringer and Brook, who are barely WHL players at this point. Hopefully he gets put on a line with Tanner Howe and the newly acquired Alex Geci (2 goals tonight already). Bedard was still the most creative offensively player and had chances pretty much every shift he had.

Not worried about his point production at all. He's trying a bit to do it all because his linemates are garbage.

Sure points are not everything and what not and some are overreacting to this season stat line but...

15 points in 20 games is not what i expected, because i thought after getting players like Stringer and Svozil
and couple others, with Howe would make them a bit stronger, ergo; make Connor's point / goal total rise
from his rookie season..but that did not happen.

From 2.00 ppg / 0.80 gpg to 0.75 ppg / 0.50 gpg is not what i pictured in my mind.

Was the CHL (WHL especially) so watered down last season? i guess it was, but...
the Winnipeg Ice top prospects are on a tear...sure stacked and what ever....

Well, when he had played 8 games the argument was that the sample size was too small and that conclusions shouldn't be drawn from him scoring only 6 points during them(even though plenty of conclusions were drawn from his WJC u-18s even though that's 7 games). Well, now he's played 20 games and scored 15 points. So he goes from, 0.75 points per game to 0.75 points per game.

He is not even in the top 50 in WHL points. 20th in goals.

In the CHL :

In points : 200th
In goals : 80th

Sure, shots on goal : 1st
(Bedard was the actually one who got first the triple digits)
You know you can just edit posts to include new information right?

1G, 1A tonight. From the scoreboard, looks like he's back with Nijhoff and Dubinsky. Anyone watch the game? I thought he was centering a line with Geci and Valis.

Hopefully one works. They got hammered tonight though (3-10). Shows how terrible this Pats team is.
It didn't help they played in Red Deer last night then in Calgary THIS MORNING at 11am. Though they honestly were playing pretty good, considering the scheduling, and even were outplaying the Hitmen through most of the first period. But a couple of bad defensive breakdowns to end the period and a bad day in net for the usually phenomenal Kieper, and it was a downward spiral from there.

Ah I see, thanks for the info! Keep us updated! Yeah, that back to back games with less than 12 hours basically between games. Good to see Bedard still playing well.

It's interesting, for all his struggles he's still averaging 5.19 shots per game vs 4.67 last year, but his shooting % has dropped from 17% to 10%.

Have to think we see some upward regression to the mean with his shooting %. His release is way too good to only be scoring on 10% of his shots against WHL goaltenders.

It's unfortunate he doesn't have a ton of help up front.

I do think his % can go up but another factor is that his scoring chances are not as good as last year with the improved level of the defence and the league overall.

I think he should shoot less and change his game, work on his read of the game ability, when to take a shot and when not to,
he won't be scoring big numbers in the pros how he plays, atm, he is super predictable player.

recorded another 8 shots on goal vs Raiders, didn't score, had only 1 secondary pp assist

at the same time, BYager has more points, in fewer games this season and he is not the only
2023 draft eligible player
