C Connor Bedard - Regina Pats, WHL (2023 Draft) Part 2

Savoie had much lower hype. Not a good comparison. Either we hold him to the Crosby/McDavid standard or we admit he’s not good enough for that. We can’t have it both ways.

I think going into their WHL drafts Bedard was rated higher than Savoie but not by much.

I also don't like to use the word generational (and I'm pretty sure that I have never used the word for Bedard, Savioe or heck even McDavid as it doesn't really mean all that much does it)l as it's thrown around here way too much but Bedard was at the top of his age group at 14/15 and Savioe was pretty close as well.

And while some people claim Crosby isn’t 5’11, that’s what he’s listed as. Bedard may only be 5’7/5’8 now if that’s extended to all players. It’s true that heights are sometimes inflated, but it can’t only be the convenient ones. We should go with the listed heights though. There is not a top 6 center in the NHL that is listed below 5’10.

Was Crosby 5'11" 200lbs at the same age Bedard is now?

I'm just madly curious as I'm not as hung up on size as you are here and I get that being a bit taller and bigger has it's advantages there are plenty of skilled guys in recent history that aren't super tall or super heavy, skill is still the most important thing for most prospects.

Tree trunks for legs on this kid. BTW, don't bother watching the video, it's just garbage journalism from TSN.

His favourite Canucks player is...Tyler Motte. For a Canucks fan like me, I can't stop laughing!

I’m only speaking in league trends. The league is getting smaller, but not centers. There are no top six centers under 5’10.

Pats should get Minten from the Blazers. I think that could provide something for Bedard, on and off the ice.

Altho I would be sad to see Fraser so far from his family. And sad for Levis. Heck, the Pats could just get Minten and Levis.

That's what I would do. Soon. Preferably yesterday.

LOL, that's like trading McDavid and Draisatl to the Canucks to make Pettersson better.

Kamloops is leading the conference and are one of the top teams in the WHL. If anything, they should trade Bedard to the Blazers since Paddock is wasting his talent anyways.

Well, if I had said Stankoven and Pillar . . . yeah.

Crosby was 5'10/5'11 185lbs

At this point I’m just confused at what the Pats’ GM is doing - or more accurately, isn’t doing.

The abject paucity of talent on that roster cannot be understated. I’m not usually one to buy a “linemates” argument, but the continuous defensive focus and double-teaming of Bedard - to a point I can’t recall seeing before in any junior league - that was ludicrous at the start of the season is likely starting to wear.

Like, what does Bedard have, 8G 4A? That's ridiculous. His line mates should be filling the net if they had any talent, no? Fraser was with him at West Van, the Blazers have C depth, it's something that should already have been explored. Maybe it has been, I'll ask Chantel.

Now that he's got Nijihoff and Dubinsky not dragging him down, he's been better with Howe. But agreed on the lack of talent surrounding him. But then teams can just key in on Bedard and Howe, because the rest of the team aren't going to do much.

I'd like to see him got to Kamloops or Seattle, where there's a bevy of talent he can at least play two years with. Minten, Stankoven, Levis, Roulette, Gustafson, Korchinksi...the WHL is filled with talent, just not on the Pats!

Bedard growing at least another inch is a safe bet.

I’d consider Gourde a 5’9 top 6 center.

Point, Trochek, Domi are 5’10. I project Newhook to be another 5’10 top 6 guy.

Came here to post this clip. He's building himself like crosby...absolutely unit at age 16.

What a beauty of a stick. Probably the only stick that snapped where I cut the shaft and made a 2 piece out of it.

Bedard (2023) 2 goals,1 assist in his last 6 games. (and that assist came tonight).
Howe (2024) 6 goals, 5 assists in his last 7 games.

Howe is now just 1 point behind Bedard this season.

Not that im too worried about Bedard, but it is concerning

Hopefully when he breaks out you will acknowledge it just like in the Savoie thread...right?

But I mean it's not like he has had a bad season or anything either.

It depends. If people still consider him generational, then the season is obviously bad so far for him. If he's just another young talented kid, then yes, it's not that bad, but could still be better.

I never considered him generational, the last 2 guys with that label were McDavid and Crosby.

The term "generational" is used very loosely around here and applies neither to Bedard nor Michov for that matter.

There are reasons for this, partly due to the overall increase in talent and defensive and goalie systems but that's for another thread.
