Is it Bedard going on a cold streak or bad coaching having him out of position?

Bedard has had occasional looks at wing before IIRC, is something looking wrong or is it too soon to say anything?

Plain and simple, he needs to get off Dubinsky's line. The kid does NOT have the brains to play with Bedard. Never looks for a pass when he has no play, then when he does, he doesn't look or can't hit any player he's trying to pass to. It's absolutely ridiculous that Dave Struch keeps these two (or that line in general) together when there is ZERO chemistry. Nijhoff tries to make some plays sometimes, but again, isn't great at landing his passes. Then anytime Bedard doesn't have room at all except to make a perfect pass, his line mates are never ready for it.

Can say Bedard is exceptional and should be able to do everything himself, but I really wouldn't put this on him. He's gotta be getting extremely frustrated playing on this line, watching younger players do things alot better and having more success on lower lines. I honestly get more excited seeing Howe on the ice now as the "top line" has zero chemistry and is just gross to watch.

Also, doesn't help when the coach demands that his systems be played "properly", again, even when they aren't working. Pats trying to tie the game with around 20 seconds left and start trying to set up a cycle from the blueline and you hear Struch from the bench yelling "DEEP! DEEP! DEEP! DEEP!".

Dump and chase and hard work aren't going to work so well on these better teams that work just as hard or harder and play more of a possession game.

I seriously don’t understand how Regina’s FO couldn’t convince an import forward to come over to play with Bedard. Choosing Kemell was a dumb move, because there was almost zero chance he was reporting. But you have guys like Petrovsky, Rohrer, Lysell and others playing significant roles. Just baffling they couldn’t find a winger to help him. Wright reached another level 2 years ago when Chromiak came over, Bedard should have too.

Oh, they have two centers playing wing with a winger playing center. Then Dubinsky just takes the puck and starts doing what he wants and pretty well puts the blinders on. Bedard didn't try to take as many shots this game and instead looked more for open players as Red Deer covered him well. But there were still many missed opportunities that with smarter players on the ice, would have probably seen better results.

After watching Tanner Howe these last few games that he's been getting tons of minutes in, its quite clear he's probably the second smartest player on the team and needs to play with Bedard more. He was put on the top line with Bedard and Dubinsky two or three times in the third period with Bedard centering. Bedard is way better at center and seemed to have more jump on that line... until Dubinsky gets the puck and pretty well becomes the center and tries to do everything. Its bad. He's not a bad player. Very skilled, but IQ is on the low side.

In Paddock's defense, Kemell was not rated near as high when he was drafted and his Liiga start was a bit of a surprise. Defintelty hurts, but he did try to pick someone highly skilled who might be interested in playing with Bedard.

They also picked Alexander Suzdalev, who played on HV71 with Bedard last year, but he ultimately made the decision to stay home from what I've heard. Though i feel Paddock may have also wanted to sit on Kemell just incase. Not sure they were able to hold on to both their rights. I think the import rules have been a lil weird and different the past couple seasons, so I'm not sure entirely.

Drafting import guys is more of a crapshoot than anything. They were lucky to get Szovil to report. It's about personal connections, as well as agents, or a good history of having imports. You'd think the Pats GM would use Bedard as an attractor but it doesn't seem that way.

I believe Suzdalev and Bedard have the same agent.

Yes it is I know, but it’s also about knowing the player particularly. But than again, some selections that happen make no sense at all and are just done for the purpose of it. For example, Eagles selecting Nemec. From my understanding Columbus wanted Svozil in the CHL, they have now done the same with Knazko. I’ve always thought that the import draft should be later on, closer to training camp and after the HGC. Perhaps next year they could find a complementary winger to play with Bedard, I’m sure lots would want to

Went to my first Pats game tonight and saw Bedard. Some observations..
- They started him at RW then halfway through moved him to LW
- In his own end he looks like a C but in the opposing end more like a winger
- Got stuck on the perimeter a lot
- Great edges and cuts
- Strong hands and good in puck battles, especially for small size
- Needs better linemates
- Speed wasn't anything special

Overall if I don't know about him going in, I wouldn't have walked away talking about him.

He's also young, coming off an incredible shortened season, teams have the book on him, and he's probably facing his first taste of adversity. I'm sure he'll figure it out.

I feel so bad for Bedard right now. Regina blowing a 4-1 lead and Bedard is still being forced into the same position with the same linemates hurting his game.

At least Struch gets his way which is all he cares about.

What are the import rights like? Can you trade import rights between teams from different CHL leagues? If they could acquire the rights to Slafkovsky, I actually think there is a decent chance he could be convinced to go to Regina. If not than it looks like it may be continued toughness. I actually think he’s been decent tonight but Regina just doesn’t have the talent to compete.
Edit: just scored his second of the game

I'd like to take personal credit for the Connor Bedard resurgence. Complaining on the internet works for all those coaches out there.

Regina never led after the 1-0 goal early in that game, it was Edmonton that was up 4-1. Edmonton is a much, much better team. They pretty well dominated the entire game. It was really the first game I've seen Bedard punished pretty badly physically. To his credit he didn't back down and still scored 2.

The best description I've seen is that Bedard is Michkov+.

Right now it looks like Michkov is as good as two Bedards...

The main difference between Michkov and Bedard is IQ. You may argue that Bedard is the better skater and shooter, but Michkov's IQ is on another level, which is more important. He really reminds Crosby, but a winger variant.

Yes, I’m sure you gathered that from your extensive viewings of Bedard. Why don’t you kick rocks back to your loverboys thread.
