C Connor Bedard (2023, 1st, CHI) Part 6

Before he has drafted I predicted Bedard would follow a development path similar to Jack Hughes. He’ll get 50-60 points this season, improve from there. Not everybody is Crosby or McDavid and just jumps into the NHL without a bit of transition.

Carlsson has been extremely impressive, but he’s also 8th in scoring on his team and hasn’t been a key cog for Anaheim to date. Poitras is closer to being 20 than he is to 18, you’re just being pedantic there.

Bedard leads his team in goals and points, and leads his forward core in TOI. And as a pretty fresh 18 year old, has unofficially scored in more games than he hasn’t to start his career. If you can’t see the difference between that and the other two, there’s not much I can do to help you here.

I dont like how we take 1 stat to compare 2 entirely different players. A hockey player needs to play both ends of the rink not just camp on the point and wait for a perfect pass. He's gotta be useful on D, score the goals but also be effective.

Carlsson is 100% without a doubt generational in the way he plays the game as a whole. You also need to define what Generational means, is it just about scoring goals? then probably not since he'll be playing both ends extremely well. His PPG is better as of now but more importanly he's useful in all aspects of the game, he's not one dimensional as some of the other prospects.

But its all about prospect developement and its too soon to tell but so far he's got an edge.

Carlsson is not generational lol

I think Bedard is doing just fine.

Sure the counting stats aren't where we expected.....yet.

But the process in watching him play and there is a budding superstar there and really close to exploding.

Kid has played in 10 NHL games and has had a shot hit the back of the net in 60% of them. He barely has one decent forward to help him do it as well. Keep in mind 30 goals as an 18 year old would put him in the top 10 all time, and 40 would put him top 3. So far he has been blowing past the hype, regardless of whether his teammates can help him rack up assists.

He's fine, if he had anyone at all to play with he would be rocking way better numbers and everything being as it is his numbers are fine.

A lot of people seem to be using Jack Hughes as his comparable breaking into the league but he's a better player then He was at this stage in the league, remains to be seen if he will reach the heights Hughes is right now but as a first year player he is better.

Don't think we have to worry abut this kid, he's on schedule to be a fantastic player.

Agree with this but no idea why people are brining up Jack Hughes who scored 7-14-21 in 61 games his rookie season.

I haven't watched much of the Hawks this year but Bedards numbers are around whereI expected them I guess, but watching this game tonight with NJ and he has made a number of junior plays and turned the puck over a lot. In the third period alone two major turnovers turned into prime scoring opps for the Devils and one into a goal.

He has a lot to cleanup and it will take time to live up to the media hype.

He played terrible. Had a couple good passes that should have been finished but turned the puck over quite a bit and just had probably his worst game so far.

Could see this coming from a hundred miles away.

Before his pro career began, I thought he might have a potential perceived slow start (if one has watched him, there’s nothing slow about it), about 10-12 games, or the first month of the season, and now the numbers are going to start flowing to appease the stat hounds who didn’t follow his play prior to the NHL, haven’t watched him even now, and only check the box scores.

So do the people who said he was a lock for 90 points still think he will break 90?
Obviously, it won't be because of a lack of goals. He has a (very) slim chance at 90 because of the surrounding cast - his assists are few and far between for a player of his caliber because everyone else stinks.

TBH, he's miles ahead of where I thought he'd be - and I'm thrilling to be wrong.

4 point night so far (2 goals, 2 assists). First multi point game of his career.
WOW! This kid. WOW!

Please, God, keep that scrawny kid safe.

And yet all those players are on much better teams.

BIG night for the kid. I was hoping for the Hat Trick (we all were) but, even with the empty net, it wasn't meant to be.
