C Connor Bedard (2023, 1st, CHI) Part 6

kid wasnt comfortable at all the first few games, he's about to go chef bedsy and start cooking now that he's settling in

He’s been good in every game other than Colorado.
This has been a real tough first stretch of games. 5 road games, a bunch of home openers opposition, 4 against very tough teams/matchups/historically great players. Then their home opener is against the undefeated Cup champs. Lol

Looking forward to seeing him get a few more games, get a bit more comfortable, and find some home matchups against weaker division opponents, etc.

The powerplay also started to look a bit better, which is a good sign...looks like guys are finding their roles on it more

Seems like any game here he could break out for 2-3 goals. Of course they play the Bruins and then the Knights again in their next two games 😂

They dont have a soft-ish game until Arizona and then mid November. Florida swing. Lightning twice, Florida twice, Vegas twice. Rough as it can get.

He’s had his moments but overall the last 4 games have not been good by his standards. He has been bobbling pucks, looking indecisive at times and having a bit of tunnel vision - which are usually some of his biggest strengths (hands, decision making, vision).

But if you think he’s been good then you are in for a real treat when he gets settled in and you really see what his good looks like!

Tough game for Bedard. sniped on a giftwrapped turnover but was called back on an extremely lame offside review. other than that he hardly got a sniff. Chicago were totally smothered.

man Chicago is is really not a good team. lots of players just trying to figure out how to play at the NHL combined with old slow legs. and Seth Jones, lol. this team is probably worse than the early McDavid Oilers.

It looks like aside from his crazy shot (which is crazy when no opponents around) he can't creat a lot at the NHL level. At least so far.

I mean you can look at the scoring chance statistics to see that he's been one of the top scoring chance creators in the league already. But some of the stuff he did in junior won't work in the NHL. But his team can hardly create any looks for him at all so he's had to do a lot on his own. They can hardly even pass the puck on the powerplay, lol. I think sometimes he's still rushing the play a bit when he gets the puck, he's not totally into NHL rhythm yet I don't think.

I remember watching McDavid in his rookie season try to stickhandle straight into goalies for about half the year before he started to get acclimated. Bedard will have to tweak his game a bit for sure but I think he can get there. Definitely could use some help too though

So Chicago doesn't have any NHL level players at all?

I think he'll get 30-30 this year, maybe 25-35. Possible he really finds the zone at some point and winds up close to PPG. Overall he's as advertised.

As advertised would be him close to McJesus' rookie season, where he was PPG+ in a much lower scoring era.

On one hand Chicago played 4 out of 7 games vs Boston, Colorado and Vegas, which are tough games. On the other hand Bedard scored 2 goals in those 4 games and zero goals vs Toronto, Montreal and Pens, who aren't great defensive teams...

I don't see the playmaking ability to compare him to Crosby or McDavid. Imo his comparables are more Matthews and Ovechkin.

At this rate it will be hard him to match Brinksy's (19 yrs old) rookie season for the Hawks

28 goals, 52 points in 82 games, He did those numbers while playing mostly
in 4th line and 3rd line role with limited pp1 and top 6 time.

Bad team, bad linemates? for Connor's rookie season... sure absolutely but,
imagine playing 12-15 minutes most nights with players who can't even skate, pass, nor read the play
then ask again...
