C Connor Bedard (2023, 1st, CHI) Part 6

he did not have a good game vs COL, but no one the hawks did it was the last game of a 5 game road trip. before last nights game he was leading the league on HD chances by a wide Margin, HE is playing # 1 Center and has had to play against. Crosby, Matthews and Mckinon so far in his first 5 games all on the Road and all of there's were there home opener. his linemates are 3rd line players playing on the top line.

It’s so cringe reading the posts from the doubters and naysayers. It’s like beyond obvious that they have a personal agenda and are simply going out of their way to let out their deep seeded frustration with the realization that he’s not on their team. I mean it can’t possibly have anything to do with anything he’s done on the ice, because all things considered he’s been outstanding. Doesn’t he lead the league in 5v5 scoring chances created? While playing with a bunch of scrubs? And yet some have the unmitigated gall to suggest that he doesn’t look ready and might benefit from some time in the AHL? U can’t even make this shit up I swear…

Oh look finally someone with a brain.

This is what it all boils down to. This kid was just insanely overhyped. People legitimately thought he'd walk in and put up 100 points as a rookie. Incredible prospect, has had a great start to the year, but he has a long way to go to be compared to elite all time players like McDavid, Ovi, Crosby. Was silly to put him in that company before he ever stepped on NHL ice. He definitely deserved insane hype, but many took it several steps too far, and have put some really unfair expectations and pressure on the kid.

Why was it silly to put him in that company? Nobody was saying “he’s already as good as those players were at their peak”. The concept is/remains that he has that caliber of potential. It’s not unfair at all. It’s just the truth. The last NHL prospects to come along with the same level of rare, generational ability/talent and eventual expected ceiling as a player were McDavid and Crosby. Nothing has changed in this regard.

Based on style of play, build, and rosters, I think its fair for people to predict he would have a more difficult time transitioning into the NHL than those 2 (not saying hes not NHL caliber, its just extremely difficult to do what those 2 did). Now that doesnt mean he cant hit those heights that Crosby and McDavid have hit, it might just take a bit more time.

Is there really that many doubters or naysayers though? Seems like there's a lot more glazing and worshipping going on than hate , from a neutral persons perspective.

Chicago having a full year where the entire offence goes through him will do wonders for his development that's for sure. Once he figures it out he will be lethal

As an Avs fan, that shutout was very nice. As a fan of the sport, I was hoping he'd have a decent game. It happens though, the Hawks as a whole didn't do very well last night. The AHL/CHL demotion talk is just plain silly though. Every rookie struggles entering the league. I think he'll adjust pretty decently by mid November or so.

I think it's just the media circus. I don't mind the kid. Hate he's in the division. But when he gets locked down all night and doesn't even get a shot attempt and they have to do a montage of him skating around, well, just makes you kinda hate watching him. Of course it's not his fault. But if I have to hear one more time that he has never eaten fast food or that his sister is a gymnast or see his name over his head on every shift so you can see what he's doing (or not doing in our game) every second of every shift. It's just too much.

So, ultimately, f*** the media and their circus.

Can’t believe we have another idiot who thinks Bedard would be better off in the AHL. Like literally….how do you live with yourself??

Dude…..I have a serious question:

Just how obsessed are you with wanting Bedard to fail and how/why did you become like this?

I feel like you're losing the plot here and are extremely irrational about it

He brought in stats and you talk smack and allude he may have an agenda, its not very fair,

Why dont you beat his argument with better arguments? Do that instead of whinning for no reason and belittling people because YOU have a different opinion.

Avs just absolutely ragdolled the Blackhawks last night. When everyone is healthy on that team they are just a devastating team and a marvel to watch. I think they're the odds-on favourite to win this year and would have been last year too if they didn't have injuries.

Last game of a brutal opening road trip--Bedard gets a pass for this one. But a good lesson for him to watch a team like that up close.

Blackhawks are definitely not a great team though. Their powerplay is brutal...I don't think Jones moves the puck quickly enough to be an effective powerplay QB. And Hall is so used to having his game sort of suited to playing by himself on an island--not that he's a selfish player but that's just how he's had to play his whole career. Not the best at linking up with teammates. Hopefully they can find something that works over the course of the year.

If you could go back and search on this site. You would see WILD takes after McDavid's start. People were saying literally the exact same things. Its too early. Anyone posting he IS or ISN'T XYZ after 5 games is jumping the gun.

Bad game from Bedard. Not worried at all tho. Still a kid and learning. Going head to head on the road in mostly home openers against Crosby Matthews Mckinnon/Makar Bruins will crush anyone. Need to get home and get linematches. Even then they start with this insane schedule

Pens
Bruins
Canadians (yes)
Leafs
Avs------Here we are
Knights
Bruins
Knights
Coyotes (yes)
Panthers
Devils
Lightning
Panthers
Lightning

Its gunna be a tough start.

Yep, grueling schedule. Only 3 of those 14 are against teams that missed the playoffs last year. And as you said, we've played against a lot of teams on their home openers too (I believe it's been 4 of the last 5).

I wouldn't take last night's game against Colorado as evidence of anything - Hawks looked tired and Avs looked dominant

There's only so much a fresh-faced Bedard can do matching up all night against MacKinnon-Rantanen-Whoever-Makar-Toews, he had zero space all game long

It stays brutal until late November

Tatar played well in that spot too. Colorado just miles superior.

Of course. Some posters take comments so personally.

Cole Caufield didn't set the NHL on fire right away. He also spent some time in the AHL - and it did him a world of good.

People are allowed their opinion - and posters should not get upset.

As a Canadian, I love the kid and I'm rooting for him. I hope he's the best player EVER! But it doesn't mean he's 100% ready for the NHL at 18.

Does he really though? High danger or low danger?
He's T5 in high danger scoring chances and still leads the league in individual expected goals (at 5v5).

Outside of Colorado completely shutting him down, the only way you could possibly think Bedard was ineffective would be if you already made up your mind before the season started.

He brings in stats (not very insightful ones), but completely ignores everyone arguing against him who bring up stats lol.
