Center. He's more than likely already the best center on the jackets roster as well. He won't likely start on the first line, but it's not impossible.

Thanks was wondering what they were thinking to start the season on how they wanted to ease him in.

But now they don’t have a coach
So who knows what the next guy thinks

Does anybody know Was he playing center or wing?

He was at center, won nearly every draw.

Babs plan was to pair him with Laine, which implies at the top of the lineup. We'll see what Vincent thinks. But if an old fogey can come to the conclusion that Fantilli should go straight to the top, then you can see it's certainly not a stretch.

You blew it Anaheim

they blew it on draft day

I said it then.....so I'm sticking with that.

If we could go back and look at what folks said in the first post draft year about every draft pick, we'd be a little more humble.

Adam Fantilli is going to be really good, probably immediately. I think Carlsson will catch up later.

Fantilli has been in a man's body since he was 15, with a full beard!

Leo just shot up 6 inches a couple years ago, he's still adjusting. You can see that he can do a lot more and he's just figuring out what he's capable of. It's really exciting.

That's the reason I'm saying it. I've seen so many people say things like that and of course end up being wildly wrong. I rarely make a call just after the draft. But this is one where I was willing to put out there right after the pick, and will take any internet shame that comes with being wrong.

As someone with the first name "Adam", I'm rooting for Fantilli to be the best Adam in NHL history and only legit elite player. (Not better than me, though, I'm the real Adam.)
I know how you feel, my friend. As someone with the first name Kardashian, I've been trying to grow my butt to an insane size, butt, no matter how much I eat and sit on the couch - letting gravity work its magic, I will always be the "other Kardashian".

I went thru a phase where I was considering that Carlsson was better. I had small issues with Fantilli's IQ and possibly a bit of a clutchness issue. The thing is.. even if those things are true, Fantilli's physical tools make him such a dominant player that the sheer volume of his attempts would make up for any of it. This is a just a thought experiment but Imagine Fantilli has 10 attempts per game with a success rate of 40%, and Carlsson has 5 attempts per game with a success rate of 70%. Carlsson then makes 3.5 successful plays and Fantilli makes 4 successful plays

I think Anaheim overthought it, but didn't overthink enough. Pretty good chance their pick will look at least a little bit bad down the road

I don't think the Ducks overthought it necessarily, based on Verbeek's comments they knew pretty much right away that Carlsson was their guy (at least for him and the chief scout Martin Madden by the sounds of it). Some voices probably wanted Fantilli but clearly they were aligned at the end for the most part.

Definitely possible it was the wrong decision, but also doesn't seem like there was any semblance of over analysis that went into their decision. Verbeek wanted Carlsson once they saw they were picking 2nd.

Well that's kind of even worse. It shouldn't be an easy decision and to be that closed off to Fantilli is concerning
I think all it was was they saw a clear demarcation between the two, even if it was relatively small. I wouldn't say they were closed off, they just didn't have a reason to put him ahead of Carlsson. look, it might not have been the right decision, but it appears to have been a logical and reasonable one at least
