Without applying much nuance (quality of teammates, ice time, etc), Fantilli seems at least on par with Eichel regarding their draft seasons in the NCAA:

Eichel: 40GP, 71 points - 1.775 PPG
Fantilli: 36GP, 65 points - 1.805 PPG

although I believe Eichel was younger than Fantilli by about a year which is pretty significant.
They were the same age.

Fantilli's numbers were impressive, I am more referring to their projection based on what I've seen in watching both of their games. I think Fantilli will be a very good player, but I don't see him being the dominant play driving player that Eichel has.

I don't see him being on that level.

Then you haven’t watched close enough

Fantilli’s ceiling is Mackinnon like player& he has an absolute insane drive to improve.

Which is the most important part when you have the physical tools he has, so often they take it for granted& just go by their gifts.

will fans of the ohio state university even be able to cheer for Fantilly? He's could be a double traitor (left USA to represent Canada) and is now leaving Michigan to play infront of Ohio State fans

That remains to be seen. Celebrini is certainly a more cerebral player and has a had a better D-1 year than Fantilli, although to be fair to Fantili, this year's Chicago Steel team was no where as stacked as when Fantilli played, allowing Celebrini more ice time and special teams play.

We will see how Celebrini does as an underager in the D-1 ranks this year. No one expects Fantilli type numbers obviously because of his age but if he averages a point per game as a 17 year old then the hype train will really pick up steam

Don't forget, Fantilli is a late born player.Celebrinin put up a better season as a 17 vs 18 Fro Fantilli.

Columbus fans seem pretty good at compartmentalizing this stuff.

Fantilli had a way tougher schedule
and two weeks of extremely limited ice time (11 minutes one weekend, then 15 minutes the next) due to a brutal virus that ran roughshod through the team.
And still had a better PPG

And Fantilli had 30 goals. Better supporting cast than Eichel, though.

Behind the scenes during the draft process.

A few pages ago it was debated whether or not the quote of Fantilli wanting to go to the CBJ was a quote given to the CBJ media team or the NHL media team before or after the draft.

This video puts it to bed. As Fantilli told the NHL media in March that he wanted to go to Columbus.

It is fantastic to see young potential stars excited about being in Columbus. I genuinely hope he sticks around there for a long time as it is a franchise that has had an unfair amount of guys exodus from a loyal fan base and market.
As someone born and raised in Anaheim, the first time I ever left for any length of time beyond a vacation was for residency in the Midwest. Too many of my west coast friends bash on the Midwest and definitely vice versa. It got so f***ing old.

After the disappoints of Johansen and Dubois, CBJ might finally have landed their big, legit #1C in Fantilli.

Same. Loyal fanbase whose team has had very little success deserves some. Fire that cannon!

Oh, and f*** Jeff Carter.

I don't care too much that folks find my team likable, but I'm glad some people recognize that it's got a good fanbase. Like they're still selling out games in the middle of a rebuild, that's pretty good even for a traditional market. You still hear befuddling takes occasionally where people think there is a shortage of fans or that the city might lose the team.
