C Adam Fantilli - (2023, 3rd, CBJ) Part 2

He was an absolute circus in the USHL. Extremely Tkachuk like. Especially in rivalry games against the US18s.

You’re watching a men’s tournament. These are teenagers.
That goal by Fants was nice !! Quick moves quick shot

Their young guys, especially their defense, are still a couple years away from really becoming stars. Seems reasonable to expect they’ll add another top-10 pick to their forward corps next year.
Very safe bet. Just hope guys like Terry and Zegras can see the big picture come contract negotiation time. It's gotta suck playing in Anaheim right now but they're not too far removed from fielding a dangerous roster.

how has he looked compared to Carlsson this tournament
Carlsson has been an offensive specialist. He's super good at it, but he was losing battles against much smaller men (yes, he's 18 but I didn't see that much effort from him).
Fantilli has had some challenges offensively, he plays a very different game. He has genereted many chances for himself and linemates nonetheless, that just did not go in. Fantilli plays the game hard and is a factor on the ice weather he scores or not.
I was not surprised and even expected that Carlsson kind of dissapeared vs Lavia who play a gritty and speedy game, whereas Fantilli shined. Even outside of that goal he hit the post and was dangerous all the time.
Lucic is better than anyone on Latvia’s roster though.
Hell no. What makes you think that way?
Looch would be on our roster for sure, but he'd not be our best player. Just no, man.

Fantilli and McTavish will be the Cs.

Just a disgusting core with a ton of prospects waiting in the wings.
That is a superb young core. If the Ducks continue to experience some growing pains, they could snag a couple more studs in the next few drafts. Their future blueline is grotesque.

I know the production wasn't there compared to Carlsson, but I'm still taking Fantilli.

I think Carlsson disappeared vs Latvia where the game was much tighter and forecheck-heavy. Carlsson even got into one of Latvia's most memorable goals ever when he lost the puck for no reason and Latvia went the other way to score.

Fantilli created many grade-A chances that just didn't went in. His overall pure-offense potential seems might really be below Carlssons, but Fantilli is the guy that looks like can win series for you. Just tilting the ice in several ways.

Fantilli is projected #2 overall because of his high octane scoring in college. It should be a concern if Fantilli isn't putting up a similar type production.

WC
Fantilli: 10 games, 1g + 2a = 3pts, +3 rating
Carlsson: 8 games, 3g + 2a = 5 pts, +5 rating

Carlsson looks as though he tilts the ice for his team. It does suck that Leo got stripped in that Latvia game, but Sweden's PP got stymied by Latvia as Sweden went like 0/5 on the PP. You should give Carlsson praise for scoring 2 goals against USA in only 13:46 TOI and being the only +2 rating player on the team in that game loss, Sweden 3, USA 4 (OT).

Anaheim already has a similar player to Carlsson in McTavish, but Mac has a far deadlier shot. Grabbing Fantilli adds a different dimension for the Ducks with that speed and physical tenacity. If Fantilli's high octane scoring gets throttled, then it's not a big concern b/c Anaheim already has established NHL scorers in Terry, Zegras, and McTavish. Let's hope Fantilli will be more accurate as he continues to strengthen his body.

They had different roles. 1 was the 1st line center for his team, the other one was the 13th forward many games.
One of them scored the game winning goal against Latvia and one of them lost the puck resulting in a game winning goal against Latvia.

it is anaheim we are talking about here lol... they will most likely be trading away alot of those high end dmen!haha... seems like they always do that!

They have always drafted stud dmen but MANY of them always end up getting traded and they keep the ones that shoulda been moved instead

Theodore is really the only one that they screwed up with. GMBM really screwed that one up hard.

Who, exactly are you referencing here?

The Lindholm trade was understandable, maybe Montour?

Hampus Lindholm
Brandon Montour
Shea Theodore
They were smack dab into a rebuild so Lindholm made sense to trade. (Even though that was a tough one to swallow).

As for Montour, he played 8 seasons before breaking out. He was nowhere near the player he is today when he was a Duck or a Sabre. Most players don’t (usually) break out at 28 years old and suddenly become a completely different player like Montour has. It sucks to see but he just wasn’t that player up until now.

Theodore hurts, for sure. No idea what GMBM was thinking rather than buying out Bieksa or getting him to waive his clause for the expansion draft.

Trade them away get new ones trade them away get new ones.

On the plus side GMBM is gone and hopefully PV doesn’t make the same mistake.

We traded montour Theodore lindholm and Pettersson for sprong, 2 late 1sts, a few late 2nds. Not the greatest asset management.

Montour lindholm and Theodore are all at minimum #2, and you could prob argue #1s for all 3.

Won’t lie tho I’m much more excited about Mintyukov zellweger hinds drysdale luneau than I was on guys like montour/Theodore/Pettersson.

Why? Carlsson had a whole year of experience playing with grown, professional adults.

Fantilli was learning to do that for the first time in the middle of the tournament while his coach couldn't figure out where to play him and let him develop some chemistry.

If we do end up with Fantilli, I'm not the least bit concerned that he didn't have more points during Canada's run.

I left the tournament wanting fantilli more than I went in the tournament. I think he looked pretty good all things considered…. Production wasn’t quite as high as you woulda liked to see but he was generating scoring chances and offense and playing pretty physical

Oh it just seems like all their higher picked dmen over the years that were very highly touted always got traded.... I'm not trashing on Anaheim at all cause I always LOVED alot of the guys they drafted. It's more/less just crazy to see the names they have drafted over the years...Also I realize they were put in situations where certain guys were drafted and basically forced their hand trading them away.

Its just crazy to see the dmen they have drafted over the years that went on to have such good careers/starting their careers/career thriving elsewhere with other teams...Montour Theo Thrun Schultz Gardiner Pettersson Hampus Mahura Manson etc etc... Again I am just giving props to Anaheim dmen drafting abilites

And now they have Lacombe Zellweger Minty Luneau Drysdale Hinds etc coming up now... I would assume there will be some of those names eventually traded again but Anaheim is showing once again that they are dmen drafting gurus

Carlsson's played two seasons in the SHL.

Are you advocating that Fantilli isn't ready to jump into the NHL? We're talking about #2 overall pick not looking at ease against men like Carlsson. Remember, the significant reason Fantilli is the consensus #2 pick is his high octane scoring, which at college is at 1.81 ppg, and huge part why he won the Hobey Baker as a freshman.

This WC tourney is supposed to reaffirm what has been scouted with both players, not just this tourney. Is there a previous pattern about not showing up against tougher competition for Fantilli?

=== Fantilli, against tougher competition ===

D-1, WJC-18: 4 games, 1g + 6a = 6 pts (2nd in team scoring, 6th in goal scoring)
D+0, WJC-20: 7 games, 2g + 3a = 5 pts (9th in team scoring)

D+0, Big-10 Championship game: Michigan 4, Minny 3
Fantilli: 1g + 0a = 1 pt
McGroarty: 2g + 1a = 3 pts

Many cite how many scoring chances Fantilli has had in the tourney, but couldn't finish.

Carlsson
D+0, WC: 8 games, 3g + 2a = 5 pts
.

Against tougher competition, Fantilli's high octane offense is throttled down. Fantilli will continue to build strength and have better control for improving his accuracy as well as slow the game down. One scout in an Athletic article cited that Fantilli's college production was mostly due to his compete level than his skill.

Anaheim doesn't have a top-6 player who plays with speed and tenacity like Fantilli. Carlsson doesn't possess the speed, acceleration, nor physical tenacity Fantilli has, but Carlsson's offensive skill is more advanced than Fantilli. Is it gonna prevent Anaheim from drafting Fantilli at #2 overall? That's highly unlikely, especially when Anaheim has a center like Carlsson already on their NHL club in McTavish.

Both prospects have flaws and it's fine to identify flaws.

Still hoping for Fantilli. Hopefully, even if Carlsson ends up the better offensive player, Fantilli isn't too far behind. His motor, speed, and physicality are things Anaheim DESPERATELY needs. Even if the point difference is like 10-15 points in the regular season, I think Anaheim takes that if Fantilli keeps being a force defensively. With the NHL going more speed a finesse players, hopefully having that speed with the size and physicality will let him have a Tkachuk like impact ones the games get tighter and the whistles are used a bit less.
