I will not be surprised whatsoever if Fantilli goes back to UM. In fact, it would be my prediction at this point.

Coach Canada puts Fantilli on the 4th line with scraps and the guys on his line cannot keep up because their not good. In the NCAA the talented guys on his line were able to keep up.
Matthew Tkatchuk type player in Fantilli seems to be the winning type of player.

NCAA>Team Canada?
Look at who was on his line in NCAA and look who is on his line in Team Canada.
Team Canada has 100 yearold Lucic out there, not the best team that Canada put together this year.
Its funny how Fantilli is expected to carry 4th liners into scoring, he's not McDavid/Crosby.

Carlsson is playing on Swedens top line with top line players such as Raymond who are giving him great chances to score as well as more ice time. They aren't putting Fantilli in a position to succeed at all.
Canada's coach should be fired. Its like the coach hates him or something.

You’d think these coaches are trying to win?

All I'm hearing is that Leo actually worked to get to play in that spot, and deserves to be there. You kinda sound like your Fantillis relative or something.

When you get talked about as one of the best #2OA picks of all time, yeah, you're expected to be able to produce without having Lucas Raymond on your wing.

Leo Carlsson isn't getting drafted for having an elite scoring ability. Leo Carlsson is getting drafted for his pro-ready two-way game as a center. Adam Fantilli is expected to be an elite producer at the NHL level and has had a historic draft year, so yes, he should be impressing on the fourth line.

I think it's more of the 8 months > 2 weeks thing

On the larger topic...
Fantilli has created many grade-A chances that are missed by his teammates and he has also been completely open when his teammates obviously miss him. It's not like he's not doing anything out there. He's a relentless forechecker.
He does have some limitations in how he plays in the offensive zone tho. He's fantastic going south-north but could improve his east-west game, let's put it like that. He sometimes makes some sub-optimal decisions with the puck, but it's not like he's a liability out there. He is usually among Canada's best players, IMO. But he is not a finished product, yes. He needs to learn how to slow the game down a bit better. Carlsson is fantastic at that.

Can you point out what qualities Carlsson possesses that makes him a two-way center?
I have not seen THAT much of him, but I never saw him tilting the ice defensively much. I haven't seen him being a liability there either, I guess.

Fantilli also gets the easier matchups though? Carlsson has to face the opponents top lines every shift, Fantilli can take advantage of the bottom pairings which he has not done so far. Still I do think he’s created good chances playing with 2 NHLers.

He is big guy with strong hip strength that plays in the middle of the ice. He is good at covering the center of the ice and using his big body to effectively disrupt players from attacking the net.

And Eichel had 7 points in 10 games, Laine 12 points in 10 games, Kakko 7 points in 10 games, Slaf 9 points in 8 games.

But Hughes only had 3 point in 7 games.
its a role thing? Kakko Slaf and Laine were all first line players on their team just like Carlsson was with Sweden (he gets switched to winger right as elimination games happen)

Was Kakko a top line player for the entire tournament? Didn’t he start further down the lineup with limited ice time? I can’t remember.
Slafkovsky I know wasn’t a top line player for the first several games in the tournament and played alongside Regenda and Roman, 2 guys who wouldn’t come close to making Sweden, Canada, USA or any other top nations roster. Still ended up involved in almost 50% of Slovak goals.

Obviously role has an impact but what about other factors? Powerplay especially, which fantilli has been on flanked by all NHL players

This description might as well apply to Auston Matthews but he is not a 2-way center

Seeing him in a couple of games, I don't think he hustles that much defensively. Don't get me wrong, he's not a liability there either, and I'm not trying to dunk on him. I have very little doubt Carlsson will be an absolute force in the NHL, but his strengths to me show in the offensive zone (and how he drives the middle of the ice in entries).

To me, a 2-way center is Kopitar, Bergy, etc. I have not seen Carlsson being that dedicated about it, but I'm also not a professional scout. Now let's go back to Fantilli, I just realized we're in this thread lol.

I truly don’t understand people suggesting that Carlsson is an excellent two-way player right now. He’s not. He’s the best defensively out of the top-5, but that’s not saying much and Fantilli isn’t far behind.

It’s so bizarre to me to see all the doubt thrown at Fantilli. He’s going to be a star. He’s an elite player.

He doesn't have near the grit or pest qualities
Watched the world's up to now - I don't see anything special-

I don't see anything that special on Carlson either - not in This tournament but he's looked better than Fants

Had a fantastic game overall, then scored the GW goal, which was a beauty to send Canada to the Gold medal game. Cannot get better than that. This all with Lucic as your common line-mate, lol.

Don’t see how the Ducks don’t pick him at 2ndOA.
