I caught up with Raty for a pretty candid talk a few weeks ago. Enjoy.

Raty pushing through rollercoaster season - FCHockey

“I don’t even know when it’s going to be, so I don’t really think about it,” Raty said. “I’m just trying to be the best version of myself. I’m doing the work every day but don’t really think about the draft. I guess we’re living over the course of last year almost now in a state of uncertainty. So is this just another thing you look at and go, ‘This is out of my control.’

“I’m going to forget it.

“Let’s just focus on the 60 minutes that I play every single time I’m out on the ice.”

His issue seems to be positioning without the puck. This has been the case ever since 2020 WJC.
This seems to be something that can be fixed with the right org as well. He certainly isn't gonna fall that far in this draft unless lets say more stuff happens to him down the road

Fell hard into the boards behind the net, managed to stand up but looked like it could be a serious injury.

Not much positives about his season.

Edit, nothing serious seems like he was ok after the game.

That sucks. And yeah, this hasn't been the draft year season he wanted to have. He'll be a first rounder for sure, but I can't see him going in top 10. Hopefully this season was just an exception and he takes a step forward next season.

At this point, all he's shown is that he's barely a 1st rounder, and he probably wouldn't be one without his reputation and previous showings.
I hope the best for him, but he's not done anything to make his situation better after falling from the #1 pick sweepstakes early on.

Depending on where he's drafted I think he needs to spend alot of time in the AHL, stability is soo important for him.
Forget the AHL let him develop in familiar surroundings in Finland for 3-4 seasons, from draft year!Aatu Raty will be better for it! The AHL has a bunch of has-beens and never-will-be's with the occasional prospect(s)

Not that I disagree with letting Raty develop in Finland for awhile, but the AHL is easily better than Liiga. Though due to covid circumstances , the leagues are closer in level this season

I remember people called it the raty draft a couple years ago. Damn sucks he fell off
He didn't really fall off. His performance hasn't really been crazy at any level. Only in 17-18 internationally, I guess. Even that season he just played u-16s in Finland, while many his age play u-18s.

His hockey IQ though has ended up being far worse than I could have feared. Hard to see him being an NHLer.

Dont get the hate for Raty. You can clearly see the talent and potential. His confidence is sub-zero, he tries too much. Could be that his coach demands too much of him leading him to overthink things.

Would love to just sit down with the guy, go over the footage from last year, analyze his thoughts, get into his brain. Still a top 10 pick in my opinion. If he falls, I hope Detroit picks him up with the Washington 1st round pick. Raty has the potential to be a 1st or 2nd line player.

Would definitely go for the gamble, set him straight and work on his fundamentals.

Little more on Raty...a complete deep dive of his game by our crew.

I will caution. It's 4700 words and 16 video clips, so you might want to grab a beverage before digging into this one.

Deep Dive: A look into Aatu Raty's game - FCHockey
Great breakdown. Much more informative than you usually get in a report like this. Raty is someone I'd strongly consider taking with the Washington pick in the late first... But you may have scared me off that idea and now I hope he's around in the second.

I'm pretty sure I posted that a while ago, but I'm just glad that there's another convert to my cause.

When the 2020-21 season began, many were projecting Aatu Raty as the first overall selection in the 2021 NHL Draft. However, Raty really struggled to start the year and questions were raised about his potential. He got better as the season went on though. Raty put up just three goals and three assists in 33 games for Karpat in the SM Liiga, playing against men in Finland’s top men’s league. However, the 17-year-old was much better when facing opponents his age. He scored three goals and seven points in eight games in the Finnish Under-20 league.

In 2019-20 Raty scored two goals and four points in 12 games in the SM Liiga. He also added two goals and 21 points in 30 games in the Finnish Under-20 league. He had nine points in nine games playing in exhibition tournaments with Finland’s Under-18 team and even made the World Junior Squad as the youngest player in the tournament. As a 17-year old, he scored two goals and three points in the seven-game tournament against the best under-20 players in the world. He also had four points in three games at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

I can see Florida taking him at 24 if he's there. At that point, worth the shot, plus having Barkov and Lundell on their team could help him significantly, not just with the familiarity of his fellow countrymen, but Barkov in particular could be a very good influence on his game
