His skating finally looks like about it was last season, I think both him and his brother added a lot of weight during the off season.

What are you talking about? I just can’t imagine why he hasn’t produced in juniors last yeqr. But Raty Raty Ranta line was amazong at WJC and everybody at here was wanting more icetime to that line.
True, they were really good but as far as i remember they were a little bit snake bitten. Saturday eve so little bit drunk though ;)

He looked really good tonight. Remember that these are young players and confidence is a important factor. Top 10 for sure

Not a future bust anymore!
Never was neither, just people including me questioning his top pick potential, i seriously hope he gets a bigger opportunity next game and runs with it, i want him to succeed as much as anyone else.

There are tons of players who were favorites to be 1st overall selections a year or more out from the draft then dropped in the rankings, but still went on to be great pros. Samsonov, Clearly, Sykora and many more. Raty still has the chance to jump back into the top 5, but it's hardly a tragedy or big deal if he drops to 15th overall or so.

Would be just better, if he is not even near the 1st overall, with all the pressure for a highly selected pick. #15th overall and he can overpass the expectations.

Better for Räty to get top 6 minutes in juniors than bottom 6 minutes with random grinders in Kärpät IMO.

Well yeah but I just don't understand why Manner keeps playing Mustonen at 2C when he has 3 points in 13 games while getting top minutes on 5vs5 and PP. Räty has one less point in half the games in very limited minutes.

I’m seriously disappointed in Manner as a coach. First of all his team plays this extremely boring robotic hockey that is awful to watch. Also he seems to be an absolutely safe playing coach that also doesn’t like to give even extremely talented youngsters any real good roles in his team.

I thought in the beginning of his coaching career that he would be an open minded coach who would favor more offensive kind of hockey instead of this awful safe playing old school coaching that he has been forcing on the Kärpät players. It seems to me that he is honestly ruining things for the very talented Kärpät youngsters at the moment. What a pity really.

Räty got dropped from the WJC. I don't know the situation of the junior NT, but damn this choice is rough for Aatu.
His brother, Aku is on the team. That's a bad decision flat out comparing the two so far, even with Aku being 19.

Well, as if it wasn't obvious already, we aren't getting a #1 pick for Finland this draft either.

Is he injured or something? His fall has been tragic, this will drop him out of the first round.
I'm pretty certain that this is a conscious decision of the coach(es), even Puistola got dropped in favor of "lesser" names.

It's a tournament of 19-year olds, like Canada builds and Aku has been fine at Men's level.

Don't think Manner is the reason why Aatu has been so poor also at U20 level. There's a different coach and Räty has been more there than at Liiga with Manner.

Aatu should look only on the mirror.

Seems like Aatu's hockey IQ issues will be ending up biting him very hard. It's unfortunate but can't say the signs weren't there.

Also TBH a pretty significant issue there seem to be significant hockey IQ issues with many talented Finnish hockey players lately. It feels like something's just not being done right during the earlier stages of development.

Quite a big surprise. Hopefully this will light a fire under his ass. I was hoping that playing well in U20 would do that. Now he has to put this disappointment behind and work.

Ok.
Whatta hell has happened? From sure top. 2 draft pick to bad numbers at junior?
Anyone actually seen kid play?
I have seen 20ish games from him and i've never seen anything special about him other than that he skates well for his size and has a good wrist shot, but he was always in the wrong spot and never got passed the puck as a result. Lack of hockey IQ is what it seems to be, i hope he could turn it around but it sure don't look too good for him right now.

How does a kid make the WJC team as a 16 year old, but not at 17? Was he gifted a spot last year in hopes of what he could be? Some kids can't handle the hype.

Oh. Sad if he lacks in the most important part of the game.
Well. Lets hope it has something to do with age and getting bigger and on to Girls.

Kotkaniemi and Teräväinen didn't make it on their draft year either, this really doesn't mean much in the bigger picture, Aatu still has good potential.

Not really the same deal as Kotka, & Teuvo were twice-underaged in their draft years, and hadn't played the year before(when they would've been thrice-underaged).
