Burke out - Good or Bad?

We could also give it 6 months before everyone who loved Burke turns their man crushes to Dave. Besides, How do we know Nonis isn't let go in the summer when someone else is found?

Yup.....Nonis won't have much time to WOW the brass. He is the GM because he is already in the system as Assistant and has GM experience. I doubt he will be given much rope. Burke set himself up for dismissal by bolstering the front office with experienced managers making the decision much easier. Doesn't mean Nonis is a long term GM, IMO. Corporations like Bell/Rogers don't get all warm and fuzzy about people, really. If they don't like the work Nonis does, he will be gone, gone, gone.

Succinct and absolutely correct.

Glad to have you here as a moderator Mess.

I've just recently been reading your posts and I have been liking them a lot!

I don't always agree with Mess, but I do like his posts and general thoughts. I guess us Anti-Burke crowd gotta stick together. Actually I am anti-losing, which is how I will remember the Burke era as. Fair or not. Much like I will remember the JFJ years.

I'm sorry but JFJ lost just as much as Burke did. He actually had pieces to work with. Not getting into this round about with you though

Taking Burke out now is just plain stupid. He deserved 5 years. But then the Legendary Pat Quinn only had 4 years as GM and Quinn's years are the Glory Years of the Leafs post 1967 expansion.

No he didn't because the Burke crowd tells us that he inherited garbage. So which is it? Stop.

This is a complete shock. Terrible time

Nonsense really.

I'll wait and see what kind of moves he makes.

There's one a lot of people are talking about right now havent u heard?

I sure have, and Im scared to death of what we might actually give up to complete this deal.
I am hoping Nonis doesnt become just another puppet, but scared that we are about to see the return of playoffs or bust mentality.

I agree with TSN. Timing is way off. The guy talking in the press conference more of less sounded like a complete buffoon.

But there's an endless trail of what ifs that follow Brian Burke all the way back to his first season with the Leafs.

timing is weird and he is staying on as personal advisor. I think there will be more of a personal demons slant to this story when all is said and done...... Nonis has bee acknowledged as the main player in a lot of deals.. If it really was the trading then why keep the guy who made half the trades... He has had a rough few yrs... Maybe being left alone with his mind isn't the best.... Or maybe mlse doesn't like the new cba.... It doesn't make sense

et al? which number did he wear? Didn't Burke have a chance to bring back Mats? Please.

HAHAHA, you are hilarious!!! That was an awesome line..... stop, I cant breathe.... just too funny....

:biglaugh::joker::vhappy:

now that this is out of my system, are you seriously arguing that the talent JFJ started with was of lower quality that the team he left?

I really dislike Burke (for obvious reasons I won't get into...essentially for the same reasons Mess dislikes Burke). At the end of the day.... weather someone likes or dislikes Brian....Burke failed miserably. There is no denying this. That's all Burke's tenure will ever be.

 You're good at what you do. Stick to it. JFJ had a much better team then Burke did. Don't kid yourself. Doesn't matter how you slice it. Round about you go though eh?

Wanted to give him the short season at least, just to see how things go, and because I like the skeleton we have in place. Adding Nonis likely isn't going to change things, but the rationale provided by the new board just makes me wonder how much these people are going to meddle.

If we'd sucked this season again and they wanted to not renew him, that would have been fine. Timing and rationale are what bug me most about this.
