Buff was not on the ice for any of the 4 regulation time goals and was on the ice for ALL 4 goals against.
So, beside the assist on the overtime goal, he had a terrible game.
Yeah he really did. I just don't think we should bench him.

Buff is worth a pretty penny and I'm going to stop banging the same drum over and over, but, he's just not the steady reliable guy we need to anchor our D.

Watching the game tonight I was very frustrated by his lackadaisical play. It's not an angle or a meme. Buff can get complacent and lazy out there.

What saved us tonight was our scoring touch and skill. It's actually pretty incredible to think about our depth of offensive talent. We can score ourselves out of bad games... that's really fun to watch. God this has been a refreshing season

So if Little wouldn't be there to finish his missed wrap-around there is a big chance he would be on the ice for all 5 goals and finish the night with -4. Yep not the worst player on a team :sarcasm:

Last game was one of the rare that I missed completely, so I cannot really comment on his play, but while in general 0 for and 4 against is awful there are so many variables involved that you cannot just stat watch and say he was bad. Sample size and blah blah.

And if Meir wasn't able to dribble that puck past Helle the game never gets to OT. What is the point of whatiffing anyways?

Little changing my tune. I just said today Lowry had a bigger impact this season than him and he puts in two goals.

Lowry has become a pretty invaluable and unique player to the Jets.
We have loads of skill up front but Lowry is evolving into a shut down player and can to a degree drive his own line.
Little is great and I was one of his biggest defenders when the interrogation lights were on him for the lack of scoring from the ELL line. As I stated earlier in the year you can usually count on Little to become the hottest Jet for a 10 or so game period at least once a season.

He won a lot of individual battles in the corner tonight.

I feel like Connor has slowed down a bit. He did what Morrissey and Laine did and loaded up on muscle and it's noticeable that all 3 lost a bit of a step. Morrissey still hasn't gotten his back. Kid used to fly in junior.

Am I out to lunch for thinking it might be some minor injury? To me his speed seemed fine up until 4-5 games ago.

edit Talking about O'Connor

So happy we won!!!

No pretty but it was entertaining.

I'm a big Roslovic fan but tonight was probably the worst of his games this season.
He was losing a lot of little battles (that he had won in the other games).
Just not as impressive.
He had a bit of a boost once he got bump up to the top line.

Wheeler good and bad moments, can we not try him in front of the net on the PP.
Really seems we have better options for that half wall.

Laine decent just not as good as his recent games.
Connor must have screwed up bad to get demoted.

MP-L-E were pretty great.... I will say that Ehlers didn't truly show up until the 3rd and then he made his presence felt.
Ehlers and Laine both tried to do a little too much on their own especially late in the game.

Copp-Tanev-Armia not as good possession and defense wise as the Lowry line but Armia's 2 goals sort of trumps all other consideratons

Dano-Hendo-Roslo really scary first couple of shifts, not great.

Mostly liked the D... get well Kuli, smarten up Buff.
Trouba has been really picking up steam but he either has blinders or is pushing for O for bis next contract. A couple of times a game he really puts his head down to drive stuff to the net when he has some really great passing options.
Note: when this is your complaint... things are good.

Can't wait to see the lines once Big Adam is back.

Yikes are we stuck with Chia-Pet on Thursday?
I think the Ducks have their big guns back compared to when we played them before.

Will Hutch get the call?

I understand the previous years where the Jets were just an average team and they would lose games like this and fans complained but seriously the Jets are a top 5 five now no need to ***** about a player making a mistake. This is a team sport so when one player screws up another picks up the slack. The Jets are in first place with them missing their #1 and 3 centers ... think about that for a minute.
Life is good ... enjoy your first place team.

I just remember watching him absolutely fly in the USHL and NCAA, didn't watch as much of him in the AHL. Then he decided to put on some muscle over the off season and he seems to be a little slower now. I remember the year Morrissey didn't make the team he trained hard in the off season to add more strength for the NHL and he still hasn't regained his speed that he had when I watched him in PA, Kelowna and at the WJC's. It's why I'm still skeptical of Laine putting on extra weight as it doesn't always lead to an increase in speed. Though Ehlers put on some extra muscle and he seems to be getting faster and faster so it may have something to do with putting the time in to regain that speed. The other guys may not be focusing on it as heavily. Then again Ehlers could always fly like the wind.

In all honesty I see Buff's game regressing (super slow) and he is not the same physical player from last year.
He took the absolute worst penalty at the worst time after that 4th San Jose goal.
We were very fortunate that San Jose got a too many men penalty.

Buff got lucky in overtime with his wandering.
If Little missed that goal on Buff's missed wraparound San Jose was off to the races.
Rewatch the video. IF Little had missed the puck, it would have ended up in the corner. It was in no way a risky play and on top of that, it paid off.

I'd expect it to be Laine-Wheeler-Roslovic, but still :thumbd:.

The first time I noticed Roslovic out there for Connor I thought he was playing LW.
I was thinking... "man is Maurice trolling the Laine fans?" ;)

I really hope that our February home stand can give us some breathing room from the vultures in the central.
It feels like we could go 8-2 over a 10 game stretch and all of the teams would be sitting right there with us.
One of them HAS to crack... hopefully not us ;)

My thought exactly! ;)"Let's put farm league LW on Laine's spot. Didn't work out? Let's try farm league RW..."

Roslovic could have the type of game that would go well with Laine but tonight was not his night.
I have faith we will see better days ahead from Jack... plus he needs some confidence.
Home cooking and Lowry could do wonders for that.

I liked all of our D basically, which is nice to say
Up and down game, good to finally get the OT win

When Scheif returns I'd like to see Perreault-Little-Wheeler and Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine. I'm getting a bit tired of these weird lines we've been going with (although they have been generally good).

LOL, a veteran 7 mil veteran defender, arguably strongest guy in NHL did nothing to prevent fourth goal and than takes stupidest penalty that's embarrassing

[mod]

Actually, he repeatedly got the puck up to his support who couldn't get it out of the zone. That shift was a disaster but far more on the wingers (all three) than on either of the defence.

Dumb , Dumb , DUMB penalty by Buff , probably pissed off at his own play tonight but he made the play that won the game and if he is doing that then according to the way players are getting signed now he is worth the money . Someone said in the GDT that where were all the Buff defenders after his stupid penalty , asleep , some of us have to work for a living man. People are bringing up the fact he was on the ice for all the goals against , i thought plus minus was a stupid stat . One of those goals his defense partner just let go of his goofy overly long stick because it was in between the legs of the San Jose player thus making it a 5 on 4 , but that must be Buff's fault . Glad we got the 2 points and knocked another road game off of the schedule . Go Jets Go .

I think Maurice started another D recently, but might be wrong. Point is that a lot of coaches would have benched Buff, especially for OT. Maurice has to balance tough love with trying to keep Buff motivated and enthusiastic. It's a fine line.

On another note, this was a big game for playoff implications. Jets jumped 3% (to 94%) according to Hockeyviz.
If you motivate idiot, you have a motivated idiot
