Lundqvist will finish this season with 33 wins, 2.36GAAand a .920SV% w/ 5 shutouts.
Not bad. Certainly not a Vezina year, but I think there were only six/seven goaltenders with 50+ games that had a higher SV%. He played like his normal self for the last 35 games of the season.
It was subpar for him, but not by much, and it is a strong season, statistically, for any starter. Even if fans are bitter with his slow start. His season mirrored Bobrovsky's in a lot of ways.
As AV said too, it was him elevating his game back around Dec 20th, that started the Rangers on a tear to the post season.
It's also his 5th season in a row with a .920SV% or greater. He is currently the only goaltender in the NHL with that streak playing as a starter (Rask recently became a starter). He definitely deserves more credit than the flack he got for an inconsistent and bad start. Not only did he salvage his individual season to make it quite respectable, more importantly he contributed in a big way to getting the Rangers home ice.
