Tuch is going to be an amazing player, he'll probably be the captain one day. We lost Eichel who was an enormous talent but Tuch fills a role that this team sorely needs, he carries himself so well professionally and no disrespect to Eichel, but Tuch comes off as a better leader than Eichel. He also comes from a team that knew what it took to win. He's going to provider leadership, maturity, skill and most importantly he's not going to let others get away with shit.

People are really playing up this "guys who want to be here" thing. That was Adams signaling to the fanbase that Jack and Sam wanted out, nothing more. It doesn't mean the Sabres are in search of players who grew up fans of the team.

Adams was doing more than signaling to the fanbase they wanted out.

"guys who want to be here" doesn't mean the bolded, either.

It was a polite but public slap to their faces for no longer wanting to help the franchise "right the ship". In effect, publicly declaring if you don't want to be part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

I know it makes me a bad person but I can't help but root for Jack to fail. It probably won't be on an individual level but a team level, and I have nothing against Vegas. Roast away...

The hockey gods don't like that sort of thing. Remember what happened with St. Louis?
So you're hinting at the Vegas vs Florida final? :sarcasm:

Actually I would be fine if one choice is about #20 and the second choice is #28- #30. This draft is so good and deep.

After watching Eichel interviews post-trade, it's transparent where it came from / why it exists.

It's Terry and Kim Pegula's response to their chosen one requesting a trade after just 3 years of an 8 year super-commitment they made to a kid who still hadn't proven himself when he got it.

Right or wrong, that's how we ended up with this tagline.

Eichel has been no angel, Rivet suggested he was not respectful to people in the building or around town either and there was certainly a power play here to get out of town, injury or not. But the long trail of collateral damage left by the Pegulas in the 10 years is not good. Hopefully KA can keep them on the yacht and this build going forward will work so it will not matter much.

A couple of things I find ironic about the general media reaction to the Eichel trade:

1.) In an era of hyper-sensitivity about player well-being and safety, Eichel is being praised for advocating for himself and Vegas is being praised for allowing Eichel to do as he pleases "with his body". Can we assume that this view only applies to this situation and that it doesn't apply to the player who wants to play in the important playoff game even though he just had his 4th concussion of the season? Does it apply to the player who has a back or neck injury who just needs to keep taking Torodal to get through the schedule? To the player who is self-medicating with illicit drugs or alcohol? I mean, it's their body. I sincerely hope that Eichel comes out of this surgery healthy and that he has no ongoing complications; if things go wrong though, there will be a lot of media folk who will need to wear that they championed a player's right to have a medical procedure that many experts apparently think is too risky.

2.) For months we were told that the Sabres needed to recognize that they are trading damaged goods and can't expect a big return for Eichel. Then, after the trade, the media consensus appears to be that Vegas gets an "A grade" and hit a home-run by finally getting the franchise centre they need. I thought Eichel was damaged goods or, at the very least, that there was uncertainty about the player he would be 6 months or a year from now? Where did that uncertainty go?

Its the bias you deal with as a Sabre fan, we are the lepers of the NHL. You make a comment about a teams mistake or another player and you got someone saying "Is a Sabre fan really telling us about hockey" and there is really nothing you can say about it because this team has not only tarnished its reputation to themselves but also dragged the fans with it. We have been targeted by media since the Murray selling assets off that did well for the tank, the firing of Nolan after he had that rag tag of not even AHLer's playing hard. Cherry on National Media telling us we should be cursed for the blemish we put on hockey. It also doesn't help fans actively cheered openly for the tank, thinking back on it, it disgusts me. Throwing away this season bothers me too, I mean field the most competitive team you can and if you happen to lose into bottom 5 no one can say you didn't try and you don't deserve a 1OA.

We have squandered assets and ruined assets and now other fanbases and the media will hit us as low as possible whenever they can because that's what we are.

Punching bags.

We were never going to win in an Eichel trade.

I’ve never liked Vegas, they’re one of my least favorite teams in the NHL. I’ll root for them to lose regardless if Eichel is on the roster. I appreciated Jack’s “Thank you Buffalo” video, even if it was a bit perfunctory. Jack probably doesn’t give two sh*** about Buffalo anymore, I’m not going to waste any emotional energy hating on him.

that's a lot of hoping right there....if none of those aren't #1c (that's probably more the case) then what does Buffalo do ? They spent years trying to get legitimate #1 and #2 centermen only to end up with none now.
You can win a lot of games with three legit #2Cs as long as the rest of your team is strong.

Interesting sidenote that no one is thinking about but will absolutely talk about in 7 months, giving up a '23 3rd should take us out of the RFA offer sheet game this offseason.
Meh. Wasn't gonna happen anyway.

They may be bad this season, but just not to be too bad, not in the top 10 worst teams, it was a shame to get a late first in 2023.
This year's their shot. They're going to be in cap hell next year. I don't see a Sharks-level collapse as being probable, but the possibilities are greater than zero.

It's basically:

1st
Tuch = 1st
Krebs = 1st

and the value of a 3rd; vegas 2nd for buffalo 3rd. Buffalo 22+23 3rd would be about vegas 2nd

Yep. The asking price was rumored to be 4 first round assets. This is damn near close to what was discussed, but I will beating this dead horse... NO EICHEL PERFORMANCE OR RECOVERY CONDITIONS. I think you have to give up a little for that.

In the end, Vegas was the perfect fit given Tuch on IR.

Tuch has demonstrated talent and character in the NHL. His affinity for Western NY is an intangible plus. He'll be a top six winger here for the rest of his contract. He's worth more than a mid-round 1st.

Krebs was a former mid-round 1st, but has had additional development time to mature and is close to being ready. His upside comes from his work ethic and leadership qualities. He may top out at 2C, but that's a really important role. He's worth more than a mid-round 1st.

They didn't come close -- they actually got the equivalent of four 1sts. Maybe even a little more.

Is this guy a reliable source for this sort of statement?

Are they saying that the Sabres somehow owed it to the hockey world to put Jack Eichel on the ice in another jersey sooner?

Because those who say that, honestly, can just f••• off.
