Poor baby

Not surprisingly the usual suspects are trying to make this about the Pegulas demanding loyalty (I mean , really??). As opposed to the fans reacting to his Patriot fandom.

No matter which side you're on, it's kind of stupid to be hung up about being a fan of another team in a separate league/sport.

Fandom in general is stupid. You're not changing anything as a fan. It just breeds unhealthy obsession and societal cultural habits.

wait, so he talks about growing up a Brady/Patriots fan, then bitches about being asked to support the Buffalo Bills after being drafted #2 overall by Buffalo and basically being given the keys to the city...

then goes onto say that he has no issue rooting for the Las Vegas raiders (seemingly without even being asked to by the VGK). If it was such a big deal being asked to support the hometown team, Why isn’t he going back to being a Patriots fan? Or at least a Tampa Bay fan? Why is he rooting for his new hometown team without issue?

Poor Jack, having to spend time in lowly Buffalo...

I bet he’s not upset about that $80 million deal Buffalo gave him, though.
Would he have got that contract elsewhere? His highest season point total at the time he signed that deal was 25 goals and 64 points.

Of all the things to complain about with Eichel, his being a Patriots/Sox fan is one of the dumbest things to complain about.

Now if he was in a Bruins luxury suite with a Pasta or Bergeron jersey during the playoffs...
Reminds me of Redskins fans getting mad Bryce Harper would wear a Cowboys hat.

I don't trust people that are fans of multiple teams in the same league. Also, if you like Boston sports you're not allowed in my house.

What about fans who switch teams?
I know someone who switched from Bills to Patriots.

I don’t trust people that blindly follow a sports team for any reason.

I like certain players from Boston because I’m a hockey fan first and will always appreciate good hockey players. Boston has quite a few.

You don't still talk to this person do you?
He may have jumped back on the bandwagon now that the team fortunes have flipped.

Maybe I should admire someone like that for not living a life of misery following a bad team, but just not sure if I can trust someone with that level of character flaw. ;)

There is nothing to wonder about with Pagnotta’s take. Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon said he didn’t start talking to Buffalo about Eichel until September. He has no reason to lie about that.

You also keep ignoring the impact of Jack’s previous agents vs what Brisson actually did to move this along. These things had an enormous impact.

I literally separated the trade phases into pre and post Brisso. Of course he had a huge impact.

Brisson got the ball moving by getting his OWN imaging for Jack’s neck. Something he controlled and could send to other teams ( Sabres openness with this came later). He also got more surgeons to sign off on ADR being a good option for Jack. Instead of just the one surgeon (Prusmack) who initially recommended it. It was an effort tpo make potential trade partners more comfortable with ADR.

Jack’s previous agents could have done all those things. None of it required participation from the Sabres. But instead their strategy was to attack the Sabres publicly. All in a misguided attempt to force Adams into doing what they wanted (Surgery or trade Jack). Every time his previous agents were quoted. Most of us were thinking “what are the doing? How is this going to help?” That was especially true with the letter they sent out after free agency started. It aggressively attacked the Sabres and was basically a tantrum over Jack not being traded at that point.

Find me another situation where a player HAD to go get their own medical imaging done because a team refused to share them? Adams clearly mishandled the situation there. What do they gain by with holding medical info?

You’re also making false assumptions about what was available around the time of the draft. If we’re using the value of hindsight then you would know LA had the 8th pick and it was San Jose with the 7th pick who took Eklund.** Hindsight would also tell us none of the top prospects from Anaheim were ever in play including the guy they targeted with 3rd overall (Zegras/Drysdale/MacTavish).

**We actually tried to move up to the 7th pick using Sam and 13th overall (from Risto trade)

Whoops, correct on the LA piece. But swap in Columbus, who had a reported interest in Eichel at the time and the net effect is the same.

In the end though, Adams hurt the return on Eichel in two ways:

1) By not doing everything he could to get all the information out before teams used up their cap space/set their plans in motion for the summer. This is the big bungle of the whole process. You'll get a better return with 10 bidders than you will with 2. Adams should have been out there trying to make a sale, not sitting back saying "No lowballs i know what I got".
2) By making salary retention a non starter. I don't give him full blame for this as this was likely a restriction from ownership.

This is one of the most frustrating parts for me. You have an owner worth close to 6 billion dollars and he's unwilling to pay out a few million to help move a trade along and potentially get yourself a much better return. This also would have helped keep them above the cap floor for a couple of years until they start hopefully handing out contracts to players performing and earning them.

The last couple years the Sabres did lose money, but after 10 years of futility it's pretty understandable. However the teams value in that time has more than doubled, so if he were to sell the team any money he lost would easily be recouped.

Living in a Vegas casino? Yikes, good luck with that Vegas,
Vegas can be a very dangerous city for a young guy who likes to go out and party. Hopefully he focuses on his rehab and getting back into playing shape after his surgery, and not on the Vegas night life.

Red Rocks is a bit of a ways off strip and more of a locals casino. There is a best buy and costco across the street, so its not like they are plopping him down in the Aria or Wynn.

Either way, Vegas certainly can be a bad city for a person with night life issues.

Red Rock is on the edge of town in one of the nicer areas of Las Vegas, near the mountains. That's actually my favorite Las Vegas Resort, we used to go there all the time for breakfast, lunch, or cosmic bowling. Way more tame than if he was on the strip.

Pre-Trade: "I can't wait for this trade to be over with, I want to move on."

Post-Trade: continue to talk about Eichel, and comment on things that have nothing to do with us.

There's no way he's getting a better deal in his current living arrangement, than living rent free in Sabres fans' minds.
