Absolutely, f*** the rags... but even if I agree with Terry, this is still not what we want to see.
I am not a fan of the "don't trade within the conference (or even division, really)" idea in sports. There are 16 teams in the conference. It behooves you to improve yourself as best as possible to beat all of them rather than worrying about also improving one team.

A specific example where I wouldn't is something like the Bills dumping an unneeded player off on the Chiefs which would really help plug a big hole in their D, something like that. But trading Eichel during a rebuild doesn't need any considerations like that.

I'm glad he's not on the Rangers though, as it'd be really obnoxious.

The second they said Buffalo is one of the greatest markets in the NHL, I knew they were full of shit
what is this? A salty Rangers fan!? Whoever would have thought? especially with everyone leaving NYC in droves to goto Texas and other places I'm surprised they still have anyone left with what? overpriced housing, giant cockroaches, rats the size of a large bird, flooding. I mean with the sea level rising and the massive flooding they experience yearly. Soon Buffalo and Western NY will be the only team in NY high and dry with oceanfront property.

You really cant beat that.

In my opinion good trade for the Sabres. Pressure on Eichel now to prove he wasn't the problem in Buffalo.

The more I read about this deal, the more I like it. I love that we got our blue chip C prospect, but Im also enamored by the type of players we obtained. Hard nosed players. Tough to play against.

This is very much a culture shifting move. Fingers crossed it transitions into something special.

A job well done by Adams. Seems like he may have a vision for the team (that's where Botterill failed miserably). I hope like hell it comes to fruition (that's where Murray failed).

Agreed. I do wonder if he asked too much during the summer, but once teams moved on and started using up their cap space this seems the best window/timing to me. Didn’t panic, made teams know he still needed value, leveraged the fact that Jack could be back for playoffs, and he targeted players he wanted. Tuch is a guy who might actually like playing in Buffalo, better than getting an unhappy Tkachuk imo (if that was even really an option), and Tuch should give the team a boost if they’re actually decent this year. Meanwhile he seems high on Krebs- good, I’ll take that confidence over sheer numbers. He waited and took the best deal available, solid move I think.

I’ve lived in both cities and New York is a far better place to live. Unfortunately, the Rangers suck and they’re destined for failure.

I think fans are tired of soft teams that are easy to play against.

Krebs and Tuch sound like players that Buffalo fans will enjoy watching, skill + some intangibles.

Re: The interviews and the external pressure

Jack Eichel discusses trade request, desire for disc replacement surgery

Jack Eichel was going to do interviews on Thursday, whether traded or not. He was ready. It was time.

He was going to speak out about the situation and give his side of the story. Seemingly people in the industry knew the interviews were scheduled and considered that to be the external pressure that was mentioned in one of the tweets a day or two before the trade.

While I agree with you in concept, we must therefore conclude either 1 or more of 3 things:
1. VGK and BUF had irreconcilable valuations.
2. VGK didn't ask / push BUF after hearing BUF was unwilling to retain.
3. Adams was adamantly unwilling.

I honestly don't think this was Adams call, but the sabres were unwilling to retain, per Adams presser. This isn't the first time we've seen the Pegula's put their foot down in regard to paying a soon to be ex player. The RoR fiasco was mostly because the Pegula's didn't want to pay a player 7.5M as they walked out the door. They would have gotten a much better return and had more bidders. The fact it was a non starter reeks of a stubborn billionaire than a supposed 'pragmatic' GM

Which puts the kibosch on people complaining that this was available over the summer. Similarly, that Krebs wasn't included in the deal until last week dampens that hand-wringing.

I wish we had heard more details of offers made this summer. A B tier prospect, a middle 6 forward on a good contract, a 1st (top 10 protected) and a 2nd.

Off the top of my head:

Minnesota: Fiala, One of Addison/Boldy. 1st and a 2nd?
Anaheim: 3rd OA, Gibson, Lundestrom, and 2nd
Columbus: Would they have flipped Jones + for Eichel?
LA: Turcotte, Kempe, 8th OA, and a 2022 2nd?

I honestly think that if Adams had been more pro-active with working with teams getting out the medical info in what, May, and not pulling a "Well you have to give us a serious offer first" he could have had a dozen teams bidding for him instead of 2-3.

I said this earlier, its a good deal considering the circumstances. But a good deal of the circumstances are their own fault.

Also, a big LOL at Adams "We waited for the best deal" when the reality was the threat of Eichel going on a media tour was what pushed it across the finish line

This last paragraph is pure fantasy. Not only do you have no proof, but the thought that Adams would cave after all this time just because of Eichel giving interviews is mind-boggling.

A rumor for you. Canes

LeBrun on Insider Trading mentioned that the Sabres ask started with either Seth Jarvis or Martin Necas and this was no go for The Hurricanes.

you're taking a big leap assuming that the sabres did not want to retain because pegula said so. feels more to me like a decision made by the hockey department that aligns with their philosophy on team building and roster construction.

In another move today, the Sabres acquired Johnny Boychuk from the Isles, so they are now well above the cap floor.
Right. The person I am responding to didn’t seem to think the boychuk trade was necessary. I was suggesting it was because Krebs wouldn’t count against the cap and we’d still be under the cap floor.

I woke up and am still happy about this trade and return.
Not trying to rain on you, but what you have to ask yourself is if you were a Vegas fan, would you be unhappy with the return? I'm not unhappy with the return, because Jack was surely a goner, but if I was rooting for Vegas, I'm pretty sure I'd be much happier.
