You guys realize the way you finish the season is almost irrelevant now right? Meatballs just needs to get the locker room believing in itself and buying into the structure he wants them to play. Jack Quinn will be up eventually. UPL will be up eventually. Power will make the jump from UM. Krebs I think might need to season in Rochester but again... what the hell does THAT matter either? Is there some hurry I wasn't aware of? The Sabres can wind up drafting like 8th and all that's left to do is go BPA and by now they should be able to afford to do so. And oh yeah, bonafide NY born winger coming back your way too. No big deal.

I can't say enough how well Adams played this.

Eichel had an 8th placed Hart season. Does not make him a top 8 player. People need to let RoR go, we have 2 players playing well from that trade right now for us while Johnson is a bonafide top 4 D prospect.

I love this site regarding Jack, all we heard for months from other teams fans "oh Jack may never play again, his neck makes his value worthless" and now the trade happens and its "oh Vegas fleeced the Sabres".
I didn't say RoR was a top 10 player, you did. I said he has finished top 10 in Hart voting. Which was off by 3. The Sabres got fleeced in the O'Reilly deal, but I don't believe they got fleeced Jack. I think the return for Jack is fine. Not great, but not as horrible as it could have been.

I don't know what other stuff you are bringing into this RoR trade discussion, but I was just responding to someone saying it wasn't that bad because Tage is developing into NOT a total bust. Which I take exception to because Ryan O'Reilly is a legit star player.

As a Senators fan, I was so distraught when EK was traded, and how it went down. It felt so bad losing our Captain and top talent... but a few years later and it feels damn good.

Hold your head up Sabres fans, I honestly believe you won this trade big time.

Few/No heads down.

It was different for us. Your guy got you deep on a cup run. Our guy was moody, injured, and we never even made it to March in the playoff hunt.

How I had roughly imagined this day:

But actually this isn't all that terrible. Feels a little like the Thornton trade 15yrs ago: you're obviously losing the best player in the trade but your team is probably better for it. Getting a prima donna out of the way can oxygenate the locker room and clear the path for others to step up and take the bull by horns. Tuch is a solid forward who was buried on Vegas' 3rd line, I was hoping Yzerman might pry him loose...

FINALLY. It's over.

That said, I do mostly like the return. Krebs/Tuch/1st/2nd is about as good as we'd do for an injured Jack. Yeah, I do wish there was one more piece coming back. But once this dragged on and on, I think I knew that the trade would ultimately be a piece light.

Send Krebs to Rochester. Let Tuch heal and then staple him to Cozens or Mitts, the other gets Olofsson.

In hindsight, the tank was the worst decision Sabres management under Pegula has made. I know I underestimated the long term effects of the losing culture it created.

That certainly can be argued and I side with you but Tim Murray certainly didn't help things.

I'm starting to get excited about our prospect pool and young players on the roster. They play this right and the Sabres should be better than OK in the near future.

I honestly like the return. The ONLY thing that erks me is the top 10 protected. Maybe because I really want to route against Vegas now, and now It's liiiike. What do we do? Hope they finish 11th? Hope it's top 10 and gets bumped to unprotected 23? But that's when Jack is back fully healthy for regular season. Who knows, maybe it doesn't come into play and they finish 22nd in the draft standings anyways.

Other than that. I bet Krebs play this year and lack of production played a roll in him now available? Small sample size, but only reason why i see he would be available now, and not in July...

Tuch is perfect. Solid cost control right through his prime years and not a year more. Local too!

I wish Jack well. No ill will. But I do hve big concerns about the post surgery production.

Trade is:
Injured Eichel, without surgery
for
Injured Tuch, with surgery.

Some risk on both sides.

I think tanking can work, but you need to do everything right afterwards: the right coaches and leaders to break the losing cycle. We failed miserably at that and wound up in a black hole of misery.

I think we hope that Vegas and Florida pull a Toronto and get bounced in the 1st round...

There is no chance that Florida misses the playoffs and Vegas likely makes it with the weak division despite all the injuries.

It's hard for me to believe that Vegas will be in the 10 worst teams even with all their injuries at the moment, they have a system that works and they will gain their own in 2022 in winter and spring.

Damn I was hoping Buffalo was sold on Brisson over Krebs.

You couldn't have asked for 2 better young players to rebuild around(well OK maybe Zegras is a future superstar). Krebs needs at least 20 games in Rochester to dominate the AHL, but he'll be a great top 6 addition to the Sabres this spring. He's not far off at all, and he'll be even better when he puts on a bit more beef in the offseason. Watching him elevate his game as they got closer to the medal games in the WJC proved to me he can be a C/W that 'you win with'. I don't know if he'll ever be a Brayden Point though, probably somewhere between RNH and Point.

As for Tuch, if he ever puts it together, like Wheeler did, he's going to be a 1st line star for you guys. He just never clicked when put on one of the top 2 lines - despite flashes of being a 1st line talent. I think that is about to change.

Congrats.
