Devils' Ray Shero watched Jimmy Vesey's game in Foxboro tonight. #Veseywatch is in the home stretch.

NJ is also a wonderful place to live. I wish everyone around the league, fans and players would realize this. Yeah its expensive but NJ has everything you can ask for, everything. Get over the stereotypes.

Isn't Newark the car jacking capital of America?

You really think he would have to live in Newark? If he wanted to live in a place with a nightlife he'd live in Hoboken or Jersey City. If not, one of the rich north Jersey suburbs.

I still think Vesey will sign with his home town Bruins regardless what the rumor mill is spitting out lately. But let's look at where Vesey would fit into the top-6 with the teams of the latest rumor.

NJ:
Taylor Hall - Adam Henrique - Beau Bennett
Jimmy Vesey - Travis Zajak - Kyle Palmieri

NYR:
Chris Kreider - Derek Stepan - Rick Nash
Jimmy Vesey - Mika Zibanejad - Mats Zuccarello

Chi:
Jimmy Vesey - Jonathan Toews - Patrick Kane
Artemi Panarin - Artem Anisimov - Nick Schmaltz

Which gives him the best chance for big stats?

Did Poile sit down when Nystrom signed his contract and say, "Look we are not going to actually keep you for all those years"?

Did he tell Jackman that they weren't going to keep him for all the years on his contract?

You're stuck on this "lying" thing.

OT but how was jackman in nash? is he still an NHLer?

The thing is, if Cammy is healthy (which is a big if), then I can't see him surpassing him for that 2nd line spot. For the first time in a long time we may not have the room for someone like Vesey. Now, if Cammy or Vesey could switch to their off-wing then maybe that could work but I don't see it. If only he was a right wing... I just don't see him looking at the projected lineup for the Devils and want to be penciled into a 3rd line role.

I don't know how realistic those lines would be for the Rangers and Hawks, their fans can better attest to that. But they surely look better for Vesey then what the Devils could offer. It's still nice to be on the final short-list for a player like him, and who knows maybe Shero can work some magic. He is a free asset after-all. I just don't see a fit.

He has to have spent time reading the debates, right?

He'll be a more than a serviceable player, but his hype is getting comical. On top of that, he's a UFA in 2 years, so after his first season discussion will begin again on his market value.

I think he's an RFA after his 2-year ELC expires.

Oh, I thought he held UFA rights after his ELC period. Still interesting if he puts up big numbers in a place like Chicago. They would wind up with a big return for him and keep the team competive (very Chicago-like (not a shot at you guys, you're incredible at asset management).

Take 2. I've been saying all along he's too smart to go to a team with that front office, looks like he's watched that "behind the B" episode just like all of us.

Sweeney and Vesey are actually pretty close. Two of the three loudest voices in the room for wanting to trade Seguin are gone ( Benning and Chia ). Sweeney was one of the lone voices for not wanting him gone and has been amendment in wanting to give young players more time to prove their worth instead of cutting them loose like Seguin.

Where is all the talk that Vesey wants to cash in on his second deal?

Also, is there anything that has said he is doing this for the money? I don't see how that narrative came about.

Close enough for the Sabres to file tampering charges?

If they can prove they've been talking about signing, go for it. On top of being a former Harvard alumni himself and being close to former teammate Ted Donato ( coach of the Harvard hockey team ), Sweeney attends a lot of Harvard games to watch Matt Grzylek, who also happens to be Vesey's best friend growing up. Sweeney may have his detractors here on HF from idiotic fans, but his standing among local players in the area is very high.

it would be funny if he signed with Nashville.

But I would like to see him go to Jersey.

Can't wait until this is over. He better put up 60 pts next year at least.

Was about to say, who exactly were these "sources" that these articles were quoting?

Really just amounts to more speculation at this point.

I guess we'll know in five days or so...isn't officially a UFA on Aug. 15th?...if he goes to Buffalo, the Sabres are trading Evander Kane for sure.

Toronto counters with Matthews and Marner.

Kane and Toews have 3 cups and a Conn Smythe each. plus a bunch of other trophies including the Hart.

Toronto has promising players who haven't even played an NHL game yet.

Chicago wins, and you should feel some shame for going so Toronto blinders with that argument.

I'm a Buffalo fan, and even i know Chicago is a better top six and established defense.

If I were him there'd be no doubt in my mind that I'd go to Chicago over Toronto or Buffalo. Why would he sign with a team who's rebuilding? Makes no sense to me. Unless he really really likes the city and makeup of the team. We all know money talks and 99% of players chase it. Chicago gives him the best shot at putting up big numbers which obviously leads to the big payday. Leafs fans, or Sabres fans for that matter, shouldn't expect him to sign with either club in all honesty.
