So, Schmaltz on Anisimov's other wing?

Seems likely. I don't watch NCAA hockey much, but apparently Schmaltz best assets is his vision and passing ability, and Panarin would probably love to have the puck on his stick even more this year. They could trade Pokka eventually for another option and slot Schmaltz down to 3C. Predicting Q's moves is usually a waste of time. But I imagine the pitch to Vesey will be playing alongside the Toews/Kane combo.

Vesey and his camp don't really know at this point. They are not allowed to talk to anyone else besides Buffalo. Of course that will change in 5 days when he becomes a UFA.

Vesey might have those teams on his radar. That doesn't mean he's on their.

I'm not sure what he's looking for and what criteria teams must meet. But I wouldn't mind seeing NJ land a young forward for nothing. Even if he isn't to become a star it's still a young solid player for nothing.

I think Vesey sees a team like the Devils, on the rise. They have brought in good, young players and have a lot of cap space going forward. What a team will look like in three years is probably very important to Vesey. His contract will be up, and it will be time to negotiate a new one.

For bolded: It's been said by Larry Brooks (way more reputable than Haggerty) and others that Gorton will be gunning hard for Vesey. So, the Rangers have him on their radar, and likely some form of plan to enact if they sign him.

As for the Devils, I hadn't seen Vesey's name linked to them before this article, but the team makes a lot of sense for him to go after. I'd hate it, but it's not a bad choice by him if he chooses to go there.

All this being said...it's Haggerty. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Toronto counters with Matthews and Marner.

How about this? He signs with the Hawks, they keep him for the two years of his ELC when the Hawks will be good and the Leafs still bad, and wins a couple of Cups. Then we deal him to you for a couple of draft picks to be the final piece in your rebuild, signs a long term deal, and wins multiple more Cups as part of a Leafs dynasty.

Vesey then bypasses the waiting period for the HHoF. Just because.

Not the first time I'm hearing NJ. Like the article states, Vesey has some ties to the organization in Fitzgerald, it's still close enough to Boston where his family and friends could watch him/he can go home when he wants to, and they can DEFINITELY give him top 6 playing time. Although, I wouldn't expect Jersey to land him IMO.

Unless Haggs is talking to Vesey or family members it's hard to put much stock in this.

If he is, then good for him, he's managed to get great access.

If not, then no NHL team is going to talk to a reporter -- even off the record -- because it, by definition, reeks of tampering. I would think Buffalo is watching that very closely.

Week of August 15 can't come soon enough -- if only to put this to bed.

Tom Fitzgerald is a close family friend to the Vessey's and Alex Kerfoot is Jimmy's best friend, I think thats why he is considering the Devils.

That being said, Kerfoot will never see the NHL. I think he goes to Toronto or Chicago

And the point was?

Not that they are friends but that bowman having a presentation ready wasn't enough to get Hayes signed there no guarantee it works with Vesey either.

The obvious connection is the friend thing but I think he was referring g to the presentation issue as that was the post he responded to.

Different situation. Hayes was friends with all the Rockford Icehog bums that have turned out to be fringe NHL players (Pirri, Morin, etc). Kayes thought it was Q that was at fault, but really his friends are just garbage at hockey.

There will be alot of angry posters wherever he lands.

Only insofar as they buy the hype.

He's got no pedigree worth hyping to this point. He'll get his look in some team's training camp, and maybe he's a competent middle six winger for two years for someone, or maybe he's a borderline NHLer. He's not much more than that for anyone.

As a Sabres fan I won't be heartbroken if he signs elsewhere, it was worth the risk of a 3rd round pick to get out in front of other teams.

I've always had a gut feeling it would be the Rangers, Harvard grads end up in Manhattan more than anywhere else, business, law, publishing - Big Apple is the Big Apple. Jersey makes sense too as does Chicago. Toronto is the only team I count out, then Buffalo. Eichel is the only card Buffalo has over NY,CHI and NJ.

He stayed home to go to college.

He's staying home to play in the NHL.

He's a momma's boy.

I'd be shocked if he signs anywhere outside of Boston, but I hope I'm wrong and he signs with NYR.

How many best friends can one kid have?!? If this thread has taught me anything it's that Jimmy Vesey has a lot of best friends, and they're all in someone's NHL organization.
