I'm confused about the rangers being an option. Is he gonna play ahead of Nash or Kreider? I guess you could pay Nash 7 mil to play on the third line? The kid is only going to a place where he can get top 6 minutes.

The Rangers will give him the top 6 minutes. Vesey would not have the Rangers on his list if that was not the case.

Anonymous sources say the Bruins are not among the favourites, but won't name the favourites  Sounds reliable.

uhhh, they were named in that article

Blackhawks, Rangers, and Devils

My bad, I missed the sentence that explicitly attributed the list to "one of those sources" and assumed the author had simply mentioned them because they've been speculated about recently.

In any case all of these articles claiming to have insider info about Vesey's preferences sound equally dumb to me. I doubt anyone actually has good info at this point.

ETA: LOL, just noticed the byline. The fact this was written by Haggerty explains why I thought it sounded dumb.

Vesey and his camp don't really know at this point. They are not allowed to talk to anyone else besides Buffalo. Of course that will change in 5 days when he becomes a UFA.

Vesey might have those teams on his radar. That doesn't mean he's on their.

I'm not sure what he's looking for and what criteria teams must meet. But I wouldn't mind seeing NJ land a young forward for nothing. Even if he isn't to become a star it's still a young solid player for nothing.

I think Vesey sees a team like the Devils, on the rise. They have brought in good, young players and have a lot of cap space going forward. What a team will look like in three years is probably very important to Vesey. His contract will be up, and it will be time to negotiate a new one.

Also that opportunity to not get paid when his ELC is up has to be pretty enticing.

Yeah, Saad was really ****ed over playing for Chicago. Only got two cups then a big deal after his ELC was up. I'm not sure Vesey would be intrigued by a similar outcome. And Panarin will really getting ****ed over too. Only in a position to a ton of money on his second deal in NHL.

More on the rise than Toronto?

Another thing I don't get. When a 23-year old is looking to sign his first NHL contract, why do people think he is looking to win NOW? He'said not 35. He's looking for the best fit for his career going forward and where he'll be competitive for many years.

Well when every team can only offer you 925k and money cannot be a factor, would you rather win or lose...

That is of course debatable. Shero has completely transformed the Devils and has brought in very good pieces. We also have arguably the best goalie in the league.

The Devils were not far away from the playoffs last season. Injuries derailed our season since we didn't have a lot of depth.

Leafs have good pieces and just drafted a franchise centreman. But they finished 30:th. Until they prove otherwise they're still the worst team in the NHL.

No one plays sports to lose. They all play to win. Winning isn't guaranteed. But when signing a contract as a young player you also have to keep in mind all scenarios. What if he hits all his bonuses? How will it go when it's time to negotiate a new contract?

Would the hawks really move Panarin off Kane's wing? To me it looks like he could fit in with Toews and Hossa but if it's not a fit then he's most likely down on the 3rd line and Chicago's bottom-6 isn't really looking like the place to rack up points.

They did to end last year's playoff series, and Q hinted this summer Hossa will be with Kruger to form a shutdown line. Q more likely to put Kane with Toews given they've played a ton together and Panarin can't speak english very well, so he can stay with Anisimov.

So, Schmaltz on Anisimov's other wing?
