That's where he succeed. The isles counted on him to be he #1 scoring winger and option behind Tavares.

He will be much better having not being counted on to be the go to guy.

Yeah, this is a different Sabres team than the one that relied on Vanek to be their offensive workhorse. Okposo will be a supplementary piece to our offensive core, hopefully a good one.

Can Islanders fans chime in about Okposo's injury history? Has he fully recovered from the detached retna? He was amazing that year and it seemed to take a while before he recovered his stride.

He is fully recovered, but supposedly it's an injury that can reoccur.

He's a shoe in for 55-65 points as long as he stays healthy.

Probably won't ever pot more than 20 goals though.

About 50/50 over the years. Maybe 60/40 with Tavares.

As an Isles fan, I can say he didn't really rely on JT for his production. However, he was a very frustrating player nonetheless. Very inconsistent and still tries to rely on skills he got away with when he was younger and not in the NHL and most of the moves rarely work. That lack of hockey sense leads to many turnovers. He also won't be the grittiest guy on your team by any stretch of the imagine. His overall skill set leads to him racking up points, with or without JT, but I still am not sorry to see him go.

Terrible contract. BUffalo is rushing the rebuild and will be in cap hell soon enough.

I'd imagine he's penciled in on ROR's right wing. I'd prefer Girgensons on that LW to match up with opponent top lines, but Kane is probably there to start.

Too much term, as usual. AAV is good.

Sabres forward crew is looking great - Eichel, ROR, Reinhart, Okposo. Vesey appears close to signing, Nylander was drafted, and a few older prospects are ready to challenge for roster spots. Plus 3rd-liners like Girgs, Larsson, Gionta, Foligno.

Kane+pick for another d-man, and a healthy season for Lehner (fingers crossed), and a playoff spot awaits.

is anyone else listening to WGR? Apparently we didn't just sign a hockey player, we signed a wizard/prophet whose signing has justified everything because he believes the Sabres are close to winning a cup, and said so on Canadian TV.

I swear a monkey throwing **** at a wall is more entertaining to listen to. Why can't we have more options for sports news, tired of listening to Toronto radio for a morsel of Sabres news, but it's still better then the meat draft and conversations about piles of dirt in the driveway.

I'm worried about the Islanders, they had a good run last year and now they're losing a lot of forward depth...something doesn't seem right about Okposo getting paid more than Tavares (I know, I know, inflation makes a lot of things appear crazy).

This isn't a bad deal for Buffalo, this isn't the ghost of Matt Moulson they're paying for.

I'llm miss his production but there are reasons why he wasn't brought back - and also why Team USA keeps snubbing him. His lack of a 2 way game and too many high risk plays leads to turnovers. Wish him well though.

ROR will take care of the 2-way game, we need someone who can recieve a pass and get a shot on net.

Don't be worried lol. They lost two guys that were not physical and added Ladd and Chimeras and there's still food left on the table. New owners have cash to spend. Plus, Barzal will prob make the team.

Tavares took a home friendly contract to help the team compete but will get his $9M soon.

If the Islanders signed Ladd for 5.5 per vs Okposo 6 per...
Why couldn't the isles sign Okposo? Why did he not want t9 resign there. 500k isn't that much of a difference.

Spot on and a Jeckyl-Hyde type player if there ever was one. Nice player and by all accounts a great guy but this is the reason resigning KO on NYI board was a 50/50 split on retaining him. Frustrating guy because the ability is there. Consistency was not. Maybe new start / team will be good for him.

Serious eye - retina issues that were a little concerning. Totally disappeared in playoffs during his FA year not a good sign as far as I was concerned. Coughed up pucks, toe drags and stupid play cost the Islanders against Tampa.

From Isl fan perspective Ladd > Okposo on grit, hockey sense, toughness. The KO advantage is his age. In 3-4 years Ladd could be a buy out possibility but I take him over KO for the next 2-3 years all day long.

See above comment.

Moulson and Okposo. Tavares 2 best friends in the world. I'm starting to get nervous. john Tavares name already hangs in the rafters there.

To be expected after his last contract which was crazy good value for the Isles. I think he'll fit nicely with ROR Eichel and Reinhart. Gives them a couple of dangerous lines offensively if he stays healthy.

KO is a better playmaker than finisher though has his runs at scoring. He is at his best along the boards and playing physical, creating space and using his size. The frustration with KO and his problem is he gets too cute too often and coughs up puck and makes bad decisions too often for my liking. Maybe better coaching will help his game.

Buffalo fans should be prepared for one rush up ice and maybe halfway back before K.O. runs out of gas, and when he runs out of gas, he is DONE. For all his faults(the dreaded toe-drag, the constant falling down for no reason, the glacially slow windup for a shot, the equally glacially slow spin-o-rama, NEVER winning a puck battle, the constant losing of the puck at his feet), the one thing that really frustrated me was how little stamina this guy had. No matter who he was out there with, he was always the first guy to run out of steam, and when he did, he all-of-a-sudden looked completely gassed, and completely useless to boot.
Too many smokes, maybe?

Seeing a lot of posts like this describing how terrible of a player KO is. How did he get 60 some odd points while being this terrible? Can't skate, can't shoot, falls down all the time, deconditioned....60 points
