Can't believe how many Buffalo fans seem upset with this signing.. This was probably the best value signing of the day of all the major signings. Buffalo is by far the team least likely to regret the contract 3+ years from now, compared to all the other teams signing players to ****** contracts.

There has been a lot of boogieman stories being perpetuated on the Sabres board by a select few.

Its a very good signing.

Now he just has to keep producing.

Good deal. Lucic and Okposo we're to the two youngest free agents both good players. This is a good deal. Okposo will help buffalo's young centers.

Question - does frontloading the deals mean that a potential buyout down the road would carry a significantly less cap hit because most of the contract's money has already been paid out?

I swear I heard that somewhere once but never really confirmed it. If true, it really puts these long term deals with hefty signing bonuses in perspective.

Just wait dude, you'll see what I'm talking about. Okposo will drive you crazy with his inconsistency, just like Kane does. Keep him away from Eichel, he'll never let him touch the puck.

This is like the 3rd time I've heard this comparison .

Kane is extremely physical, consistent, and not very skilled.

Okposo is not as physical, not as consistent, and very skilled.

How is everybody convinced they are the same player?

How does a guy rack up 42 assists without giving up the puck?

I'm sure ill get frustrated with him... I get frustrated with all players.

Okposo LOVES handling the puck, you'll be amazed at how he can ninja points. A lot of his assists are 2nd assists because he always seems to have the puck.

When Okposo is good, he's REALLY good. When he's bad, you'll see why we call him OkpoSUCK/SUCKPoso/Dumbdum21. Just fair warning.

I don't think any Buffalo fans are upset, it seems more like half are happy, half don't know enough about the player, the camp I fall into. The money doesn't hurt and the term is what's expected with UFA signings. He's 28, far happier to get him for 7 years than giving a 32 year old 5 or 6.

I'm just not positive why we needed another winger. We have Rodriguez, Fasching, Nylander, Bailey, Baptiste, all close, and hope we have Vessey locked up soon. Would have rather given Campbell 10 million for 1-2 years, or even Vanek for 1 year as a stopgap until those other guys take their place.

It's more about having great tools coupled with no hockey IQ. Okposo is the better player and can do more, but you'll just be frustrated with how absurdly bad his decisions are. That damned dipsy doodle toe drag along the boards move will haunt your dreams. Seriously.

This move could free up some of those assets to use for an upgrade on D. I hear Fowler might be available and the ducks need wingers.

can't buy out signing bonus. I'd the bonus is 9 million and salary is 1 million, buy out would be $.667 million and cap hit is $9 million plus

So would it be fair to say you are in the Not Sure camp?

That's where I am too, though I'm happy we didn't give him $7M+.

Did he actually not meet with Montreal ? Just curious about it.

Love this signing for Buffalo.

He's got 2 very young kids, his daughter is like 3 and his son is like 6 months old. Moving to French speaking Montreal would be a serious culture shock. Him and his family probably wanted to remain in America.

I've seen plenty of Okposo... I'm not going to be surprised.

This isn't a franchise player... My expectations aren't high like he is.

Of course he'll have high and lows. End of the day..if you're potting me 60-65 points a year..I'm going to be satisfied.

Yes. It's 2/3 of the remaining salary, spread over 2x the years

That makes more sense. I agree with the whole wanting the puck thing/low hockey IQ. Before you said:

That doesn't make sense. Kane is very consistent.

I mean the Sabres best player for years was Thomas Vanek..... we're used to the whole when he's on he's on but when he's off he's off
