Okposo wasnt worth the $4.5 million on his contract last year much less $6M per and now he doesn't have Tavares to play with.

Yea 22 goals and 64 points in today's NHL is not worth 4.5. Seriously you just sound ridiculous and sour when you say something like this.

why don't all the Edmonton Martyrs go back into the Lucic thread? Hes clearly going to break down way before Okposo and they signed the same deal. Dude has been playing a hard on the body style of hockey since he was 18.

He'll have Jack Eichel to play with - 10 times the player that Tavares is according to Sabres fans.

literally no one thinks this. eichel has the potential to be better than tavares in a few more years, but JT is absolutely the better player right now and there's not a single sane person who would disagree

So I guess Lee Stempniak (19g 32a) is worth 5-6 million then?

You sound new to hockey.

Best of luck to Okposo.

He is tight with Moulson. Okposo is the godfather to Moulson's son. Guessing that Moulson made a sales pitch, hyping the young Sabres talent and strong ownership.

Isles never even discussed a new contract with him. That's telling. He hasn't missed a whole lot of games, but I think his injury history might be a big concern. Detached retinas have a risk of recurring, which at worst could be career threatening, or at best might make a contract uninsurable or prohibitively expensive.

Am I in 2 different universe?
Same age as Lucic, same length as Lucic, but has been more injured than Lucic.

Yet one is a great signing and is still young.

While the other is the end of the world signing.

Holy Sh^t.

He'll age better than Lucic, skilled forwards tend to cost more too.

Hes 33. Okposo is 28.

He had 51 points last year, but hadn't broke 40 in the 10 years before that.

Try harder

Sabre fans must be happy... At first I thought Okposo was just the product of Tavares until he was on the 2nd line without him and put up the same numbers. He Should be a 1st liner rolling 3 lines, have to hand it to GM Tim Murray, he has this team in great shape.

Sure. Just tune in to Buffalo radio (WGR). This morning they were saying Eichel has one of the best shots in the NHL.

Today I learned that:

"One of the best shots in the NHL" is the same thing as saying "Eichel is 10 times better than Tavares".

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Obviously, my understanding of the English language isn't as strong as I thought.

He makes too many mistakes that lead to defensive lapses and he had long stretches of games where he doesn't show up, sometimes for weeks at a time. I think they got sick of it

TIL 51 points is basically 60 points. And saying 60 points isn't worth 4.5M is functionally equivalent to saying 51 points is worth 5-6M.

Blysma should keep Okposo away from Eichel, better to pair him with R'OR. The reason why Okposo was separated from Tavares was because he was a terrible fit. Okposo loves handling the puck and doesn't give it up, that shouldn't happen when Tavares is your linemate. He's similar to Kane, great tools with questionable hockey IQ. His inconsistency will drive people mad too. When he's hot though, he's a gamechanger - then he disappears for 10 games.

from what I recall, Staple reported before the 2015 draft, that the isles were having trouble reaching an extension agreement with Okposo. That indicates the two sides exchanged proposals, but could not find common ground.

Also, Staple tweeted early in the season that the isles would love to get Okposo signed to a deal for $5m per.

it's too bad the islanders haven't gotten sick of their extremely bad coach

He does though....

That has nothing to do with how Eichel compares to Tavares.... or any other player.

I don't think the money was ever the issue, Snow was never comfortable giving him the term that he wanted. I think Garth held firm at 5 years and KO wanted at least 6 and probably 7.

That just proves the point. Pts aren't everything. Age, linemates, injury history are all improtant considerations. 60pts is not automatically valued at 6 million. But I suppose they are Tim Murray's world. Nice to have deep, ignorant pockets behind you when you're a gunslinging GM.

Most Sabres fans and media have pretty much settled on Vesey - Eichel - Reinhart. Obviously we have to sign Vesey, but that's sort of our ideal line for them right now. Eichel and Reinhart built a lot of chemistry last year.
