Berggren is one of those prospects that fans sell as top 6 potential, but want to get rid of because it's highly unlikely he reaches that potential. If Berggren is the third best piece in a deal, I'd think about it.
I wouldn’t say it’s that unlikely. He is just in an unfortunate spot as Detroit has the deepest forward group in hockey

id do this.
berggren + wallinder + 2025 1st for buch
maatta + johansson + 2026 1st + 2025 2nd for hanifin
ghost for a 2nd + 3rd

would be ideal deadline moves for me. this wings team with buch + hanifin can go deep in the playoffs
The 1st has to be this year not two years from now

Question for Wings fans, do you guys have a sense for what Yzerman is wanting to do at the deadline?

So we can have a declining Buch for 8 years at a 8.5 mil a year cap hit? I really don't think we are in a position to be signing 30 years old to long term high salary contracts.
Unless they're defensemen, right? Buch fits right in, age wise, with the D you've got locked up.

Kasper wallinder 1st would be the winner.

We can also add a 2nd back in this years draft l.
We trading for Thomas all of a sudden?

I mean, we want to trade Krug and I'd prefer to trade Faulk too under the assumption that we can acquire a younger top 4 replacement. We shouldn't compound our defensive problem with Buchnevich, unless he's open to more of a 5-6 year deal.

Krug, Faulk, and Parayko were all signed between the ages of 26-28 while the Blues were still considered contenders. And Blues fans want Krug gone and quite a few want Faulk gone as well. If we signed Buch to a long term contract he would be 30 and we would be in a early stages of a rebuild/retool/reimagining/reset/revamp/refocus/remix to ignition. Completely different points in the franchise.

This is really a bizarre way to argue that the youngest of the players named is too old to re-sign.

Why would we sign a player who doesn't fit into our long term plans just because we signed players to long term deals 4-5 years ago? Especially when two of them only have 2 years left on their deal after a hypothetical Buch extension and one of those players is actively being shopped because we want to get younger around the 23-26 age to fit in with the new core.

If you are going into a rebuild you aren't going to just sign players because they are younger than your oldest players. And you can't compare signing a player to a long term contract at 30 while going into a rebuild (that could end up being a long term thing) to signing a player at 26-28 while you are trying to win a cup, they are completely different stages in the life cycle of a franchise.

Then add on to that, Who even says Buch would want to resign with us if we do end up going towards a rebuild. He's right at the end of his prime years, why in the world would he stick around to be on a losing team for the finale of his career when he could go off and play on a team with aspirations to win a cup within the next 5 years.
