It seriously looks like Buch is gone. But if the return is really Blais and a 2nd round pick, I am completely thrown through a loop and I don't like it. I don't think Buch is the elite of the elite or anything. But I don't see how we couldn't at least get a better 2C out of a deal for him. Or at least a 1st round pick on it's own. A 2nd round pick doesn't do a whole lot for me, or for the Rangers IMO. It's nice having draft picks, but let's be real, 2nd round picks don't often turn into top 6 players. It happens, but it's just not a high probability. Even if next years draft looks better than this years.
When I saw that Buch was likely traded to the Blues. For a minute I actually thought we could somehow get Schenn or O'Reilly in return. Thinking there would be more pieces going to St. Louis than just Buch of course.
But Blais and a 2nd? WTF? This is just such a downer. Awful. Really awful. I would honestly have rather gotten JUST a 1st round pick than Blais and a 2nd.
I get the concept of "salary dump". But this just seems, like the wrong way to do it.
I wish this also meant that Chytil would become our 2C at least. But I am not sure that's going to happen. Unless Strome does get moved to RW.
But then, Kakko or Kravtsov are still going to be on the 3rd line for now. As good as Strome has been offensively, I still would rather see him traded away too and Kakko and Kravtsov just given the shot at top 6 RW. If that is what's happening here as far as Strome moving to RW. Theoretically, Strome could be a decent RW for Chytil, at least until Chytil improves his faceoffs. But damn...... emotions all over the place on this one.
