Points aren't everything. He is an elite 3rd line left winger. And will allow us to lock up other players like Zibby, Laffy, Fox, Kakko..
This is a salary cap world, you can't compare Blais to Buch one for one. You need to incorporate contracts. Blais at $1.5 with a couple more years of control is more valuable than Buch with one year till free agency.
This is a good trade... Take a step from the ledge and relax.

yeah, looking at this trade head on is rough... i don't mind a trade of skill for an impact player..
but Blais? I honestly don't know anything about him...

just looks like a salary dump and room for others... which makes sense i suppose

Buchnevich was such a great teammate here. Homegrown talent, that was drafted and developed here. Paced 72 points at 26 years old. Versatile forward, PP, PK...By all accounts a really good guy in the room, and an asset on the ice.

So, to trade him, for a 2nd round pick and Blais? What the F^$* am I missing? This one sucks. Pavel was a RFA. It's not like he was an expiring asset. I give Drury an F on this.

Bad trade. And I don't even like Buchnevich.

In fact, now that Drury has jettisoned both Howden and Buchnevich for space junk I no longer have a Designated Scapegoat (DS). I will have to spend the pre-season and at least the first 10-12 games searching for a new one now.

Ugh.
I'd like to suggest (thumbing through my notes) K'Ande Miller. Young defenseman playing over his head should suit your needs.

He will be fan favourite player if you dig extra aggressive forechecker. Cup run and every year he was monster hitting machine. Only worries is that he gets injured, 'cus he plays so physical game.

He has offensive skills, but max in 3rd liner.

Gives every shift 110%.

Thats great... we just traded a top 6 RFA winger for "effort"...
Might as well re-hire quinn...

I wanted to trade him but this is an awful return.
. Yeah I find it hard to believe this was the best offer. I could understand when we got nothing for Hagelin but Buch is more talented offensively and became a top PK player for us

. Players know it’s a business. But they’re probably pissed about the return. It’s basically a salary dump

Agree. Dumb comment by carp. Players understand its a business and that there is a salary cap. If they really are upset the could have signed for less money to keep him.

More moves are definitely on the radar.

I think for better or worse Drury has vision for what he wants the bottom six to be and I think he's going to make some of those Amonte for Matteau/Noonan type moves we've discussed on here.

THIS better have been the Amonte for Noonan trade.

If they trade any more skill for grit I'm gonna lose it.

The only possible exception would be a Strome trade, but they better get a better return than this.

The concern for me right now is that Drury, from most reports, has kind of taken an isolationist approach thus far. Maybe that works for him. We will see.

What is an isolationist approach?

Lafraniere to the RW a thing after all? They have no top line RW *yet* allows Kreider to play in the top six.

i.. I have no idea

Between nfl mlb and now nhl **** all my teams

Seems like not a great return to get a 4th liner for Buch, and if we're looking at Blaise to play above the 4th lines we still have too many wingers...
I really thought Buch would be shipped out for some bottom-6 center depth

It seriously looks like Buch is gone. But if the return is really Blais and a 2nd round pick, I am completely thrown through a loop and I don't like it. I don't think Buch is the elite of the elite or anything. But I don't see how we couldn't at least get a better 2C out of a deal for him. Or at least a 1st round pick on it's own. A 2nd round pick doesn't do a whole lot for me, or for the Rangers IMO. It's nice having draft picks, but let's be real, 2nd round picks don't often turn into top 6 players. It happens, but it's just not a high probability. Even if next years draft looks better than this years.

When I saw that Buch was likely traded to the Blues. For a minute I actually thought we could somehow get Schenn or O'Reilly in return. Thinking there would be more pieces going to St. Louis than just Buch of course.

But Blais and a 2nd? WTF? This is just such a downer. Awful. Really awful. I would honestly have rather gotten JUST a 1st round pick than Blais and a 2nd.

I get the concept of "salary dump". But this just seems, like the wrong way to do it.

I wish this also meant that Chytil would become our 2C at least. But I am not sure that's going to happen. Unless Strome does get moved to RW.

But then, Kakko or Kravtsov are still going to be on the 3rd line for now. As good as Strome has been offensively, I still would rather see him traded away too and Kakko and Kravtsov just given the shot at top 6 RW. If that is what's happening here as far as Strome moving to RW. Theoretically, Strome could be a decent RW for Chytil, at least until Chytil improves his faceoffs. But damn...... emotions all over the place on this one.

Suddenly Kravtsov and Kakko must produce. 25 point season is not gonna cut it don't care how good your analytics are.

I guess giving Kreider the bag pretty much sent Buch out of town. You can’t say it didn’t. Couldn’t have a $6.5M third line Kreider. I think Drury had no choice. Worst kept secret that Rangers couldn’t afford Buchnevich if they’re going to pay their RFA’s, kids, and be in on another stud C.
