I’ve been saying all year this was inevitable and Buchnevich should be dealt. but the return is not nearly good enough. To not get a first round pick is crazy to me. I get Blais is exactly the type of guy they’re looking for, has a Cup ring, and got a lot better this year but still. A second in 2022?

then to follow it up with another LW who’s basically sold as another will cuylle?

the goalie was bpa but you had centers there.

not a good day IMO. Strome still here too

Did they really not believe they could have gotten a better return for him at the deadline next season?

As a few other posters have mentioned, this means that they got rid of salary because they will need it on other deals THIS year, which is weird since they had tons of space to begin with this year. Something will happen in the next few days/weeks for sure, if not, it doesn't make any sense at all

Wait what happened?

After the Rangers chose Othmann they brought it back to the studio and discussed the pick. Gorts threw in something to the effect of “I heard something about them wanting to get tougher in New York”.

Nothing crazy but it brought up an “ohhhh” response from the rest of the panel.

Sensed a little bitterness there for sure. For good reason

If they view him as a 'late bloomer' with Blake Coleman+ type production but with Goodrow snarl... it changes things.

They've been obviously looking for 'that' player... If they paid a heavy price I have to assume they really like him.

We'll see what happens

Do we have a heavy 3rd line? Kreider Goodrow Blais?

or do we scatter them out? Put Blais with Panarin? He's relentless and has good hands

I'm not against the idea of trading Buch. I am very much against this return. If this is what you're getting, then stand pat.

There better be some kind of big move in the works to justify not signing him for a year and dealing him at the deadline if necessary.

If they’re serious about getting tougher or more physical, could this be part of a series of moves to get Landeskog or Danault? It just doesn’t make sense otherwise.

It's Eichel. Always was Eichel. Anything else is a backup plan. We'll see what happens tomorrow could be a series of trades to make things happen of which this was the first one.

Yeah now with a Zibby trade apparently incoming, I believe it will be Eichel as well and I’m sour on the whole thing now. I want Zibby here, he’s a 40 goal scorer and is our best Center by a long shot. To bring in Eichel and swap out Zibby is risky, could easily disrupt chemistry and synergy and turn us into a country club. I’d rather give up Kakko and Strome for Eichel.

I want Eichel and Zibby and Chytil and Goodrow

not Eichel, Chytil, Goodrow, Rooney

Not sure if it is a Zibby trade, could be an extension too, that tweet was weirdly worded by a twitter attention *****. But if Zibby goes (and we know Strome is on the block), then it can only mean they are selling the farm for Eichel. What a mess.

There are guys in the NHL that can hit, and there are guys in the NHL that f***ing hit. Blais f***ing hits.

Guys like this that also have some skill are more unique than some here might realize. And they create mistakes...which is how NHL goals are made. Particularly in the playoffs.

The Rangers gave up a lot here. Buch is a very good skill wing. But skill wings are a redundancy for the Rangers. Blais is a different type of talent, and one the Rangers did not have until today.

Fox might get 10 mill a year as well. This team still isn’t a finished product IMO

I love Eichel, so I’m not not as worried as some. He doesn’t get near the credit for how good he is on our forum. I also believe in a better situation like our team, where everything’s not on his shoulders and with more talented wingers we haven’t seen the best out of him yet.
LaF-Eichel would be a pretty special combo to watch for the next 5 years. Plus he’s got panarin, Fox, all our talented young kids coming of age. 100 pts isn’t out of the question.
He could be rejuvenated after leaving that tire fire in Buffalo. He only now just turning 25. Very possible you see a Panarin type increase to his numbers if he comes here.

After sleeping, I feel slightly better because we knew Buch was probably gone, and seeing how many other gopping trades were made it makes this one a walk in the park... But it's still bad value. VERY bad value. You can't overpay for assets or contracts in a salary cap league for long before you are in deep trouble. Drury needs to smarten up, because JG already left us one feet in the swamp with Trouba and Kreider.
