Drury is buying high AND selling low.

I agree... Drury is overpaying though. Is it desperation? rookie mistakes? other GMs taking advantage either way.

top6 grind would be preferred though

Yeah but Buch WAS top-6 grind no?

The guy was one of the chippiest forwards on the team and gamed out during the bubble, and he probably wouldve grown into that even more under Gallant.

This is a poor excuse.

somehow that evanescence song is playing in my head
Wake me up inside (save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark (wake me up)
Bid my blood to run (I can't wake up)
Before I come undone (save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become

Buch had his most productive season to date and was used extensively on the PK where he thrived. Thats the exact opposite of stagnation.

His game fell off big time when things got real and I doubt he sniffs the numbers he paced for last year.

All of that can be true, and this can still be a bad deal.

How much better is this team with Blias and Goodrow than Strome and Buchnevich?

Serious question

Well strome isnt gone yet, and we dont know what the return will be. So cant ask this question untl strome is actually traded. But honestly Strome adds nothing to this team. So hopefully we can get something useful for us for him

So is your idea that he would continue to improve off of last year or was last year more of a fluke? He also went invisible for games and was benched last year too but I’m not arguing that he should be viewed as anything other than a mid level forward. Obviously the NHL agrees with me since the Rangers could not get a real return for the guy.

He may regress, that's been my impression of Buchenvich as well. He was 1 year away at the same production to be seen as a 1st line forward with the production to match. It's not up for argument that we sold at the worst possible price.

Well, trying to find the positives.....He does hit a lot. He was 9th in the league in hits per 60 minutes among players who played more than 30 games last season.

Always good news when you got the whole NHL squad laughing at you

Sucks that there really isn’t room for Buch here but that’s the cap world. Teams know the Rangers had to deal him and you get what you get. Blais can play and he shores up the bottom 6. Rangers still getting harder to play against.

I initally thought Blais would be a 4th liner..

I guess we'll see once the dust settles.

Panarin Chytil Kravtsov
Lafreniere Zibs Kakko
Kreider Goodrow Gauthier??
Barron Roonery Blais

Why is everyone forgetting Strome? The chances of Strome getting moved at this point are fairly low. Unless we just trade him for nothing worthwhile like we did Buch.

Again, when the dust settles, more likely ---
Lafreniere Zibs Kakko
Panarin Chytil Strome
Kreider Goodrow Kravtsov
Barron Roonery Gauthier

Blais as depth or instead of Rooney or something.

It seems like we are overpaying because we can afford to. Like Jeff Bezos buying a $8 candy bar from the hotel minifridge.

I worry that we're overpaying as a reaction to things from last season.

The players we're getting do serve important roles. It's not that they are useless.

It's asset management, value and cost that has me concerned.

You can't tell me that Blais was the best value for Buch. Hell, even if you have trade Buch for other assets and then flip some of those assets for Blais I feel like you can come out further ahead than we did.

gotcha thanks. But even an additional second I could kind of accept
The return we would have tolerated but wouldn’t have liked would’ve been 1st + blais.

blais isn’t the key piece in a deal like this. Even if he’s who you want to acquire.
